the firewall shouldn't be a problem unless you have it blocking localhost. the toolset doesn't have the authorization requirement that the beta toolset had. so it has no reason to go online.

hang on, i think theres something else to it. You know at the end of the installing process, and this window pops up with a black screen? It just stayed like that with a "-" (minus the " ") in it and didnt do anything, so i closed it. Is that why it isnt working? I think that black screen has summat to do with SQL

check following things:

Press WIN + R and type "services.msc" and look if there is a service called "SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET) and that it is running.

Press WIN + R and type "regedit" and check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Bioware/Dragon Age/Toolset (64 bit system)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Bioware/Dragon Age/Toolset (32bit system)

and see if the data base is registry is right:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB (64 bit system)

C:\\Program Files\\DAODB (32 bit system)

check that location to see if there is two file called "bw_dragonage_content" in the Data folder. if not you must restore your database for sure

run SQL server 2005 Surface Area configuaration and make sure SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET) has admin rights.

Thanks much, i did everything you said above. But running the toolset still doesnt work. Heres some little things i'd like to mention.

The two "bw_dragonage_content" files where found in the Data folder of C:\\\\Program Files\\\\DAODB (32 bit system)

And for the admin rights bit, i didn't know how to changed it, but anyways, this is what i did:

i opened SQL server 2005 Surface Area configuration from the WIN thingy. clicked on the "add new administrator" link, which opened this popup with the title "SQL Server 2005 User Provisioning Tool for Vista" and underneath it in red "Help Protect Your SQL Server on Windows Vista". In the User to provision bar, it says "user-PC\\user". And underneath i moved the Available priviliges (BWADATOOLSET - Member of SQL Server SysAdmin role on BWADATOOLSET) to the Privileges that will be granted to user-PC\\user. i clicked okay. and when i opened that pop up again, the privilige is back to "available priviliges" and not in the "Priviliges that will be granted to user-PC\\user"

By the way, my computer is running on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit system.

Thanks for all the help CID-78, i really appreciate it :)

windows do suffert of the I can't remeber what settings that is active. that item also jump back when i go into that meny. but it works on my computer now, and it didn't do it before I did that the first time. I got access denied messages during SQL quires. which meant no database connection.

try the toolset after you have restarted the service or computer. it might not update the information earlier then that.

Can someone please help me get the toolset running?

I seem to encounter almost the same problems as ZarpDK: Like him/her I am a victim of the "Unable to connect to the database" problem:

System: Windows 7 (64 Bit)

Dragon Age 1.02a

Toolset 1.01

During the last three hours, I tried the different solutions posted on wiki.datatoolset. I always ends with an error. The problem seems to be that during toolset installation the database doesn't get restored.

1) If I try the auto-install the instalklation works fine. However, in the installation report I found the following line:

"Setting up content database - creating C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB\\Data

ExecWait cacls "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB\\Data" /E /G "Network Service:C"

- result = 1332

Calling a very long and complex 'SQLCMD.EXE' with DatabaseServer=.\\BWDATOOLSET ; DatabaseName=bw_dragonage_content ; target=C:\\Program Files (x86)\\DAODB\\Data\\

- result = 1332"

I have no idea what "- result = 1332" means (I am no computer whiz). My guess is: no database restored.

2) My second try was installing the toolset without SQL Express and SQL Server Management (the toolset v. 1.01 didn't install the SQL version for a 64 bit system). So I tried installing these applications manually. However, when installing the Server Management, I got "Error 29506" and the installation was terminated,

According to "http://social.biowar...e_installation" this is due to restricted access from user space. I tried the workaround they propose. - Same result.

And yes, I was locked in as administrator and I lifted the overwriting restrictions on the Dragon Age and the DAODB folders.

3) Finally I tried to create the backup manually, I followed the instructions on "http://social.biowar..._Installation". Didn't work either. I changed the locations to:

"SET SOURCE=C:\\Programme(x86)\\Dragon Age\\tools\\dbbak

SET TARGET=C:\\Programme(x86)\\DAODB\\Data"

And yes, I double-checked, that are the correct entries for my system. Unfortunately, my computer didn't agree: "SOURCE not found. <bw.dragonage_content.bak> Please check."

Perhaps somebody can help. It would be a shame to miss out on the toolset.

Thanks a lot.

well there isn't a dot in bw_dragonage_content.bak but it can by a typo in your post.

also make sure you read the log. the error message in the console is faulty. (can't be trusted to be the correct one)

Thanks for the advice.

CID-78: the dot was indeed a typo in my post.

Sidrat2009: I tried installing outside the programmes files directory. Didn't help, either.

All these people having trouble with the toolset, it is really unusal for Bioware. Normally, those guys work really hard to make their software bugfree.

The problem really is the MS SQL Server software since that has so many issues reported against it.

I have recently installed the toolset and SQL server (through the toolset installer itself) on a Win7 Home Premium x64 system without issues. Which flavor of Win7 are you running?

Also, you don't need the 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005 - I don't even know if it works without issues with the DA Toolset. Install the 32-bit - that should do just fine.

The error 29506 is because the installer was not run as Administrator.

The error 1332 is also an often-occurring error. Check here for a possible solution - http://social.msdn.m...f8-dffcb0d4b9bb

If that doesn't work, try googling around.

I suggest checking the following ->

- logged in as administrator

- running the toolset installer as administrator (right click -> run as administrator)

To note, my Dragon Age installation is on a separate drive than the OS drive though the SQL server and DAODB folders are in their usual folders (under Program Files (x86)).

Im beggining to think that this just WOULDNT work with my computer. After CID-78's help, i finally skipped the first part of the error, only to be faced with another one. Then i tried again, and the first problem came back up again. I hate SQL. They suck.

it's not SQL you should blame it's the "MS" part. MySQL is so much better.

I will give it another try.

Like TimelordDC, I use theWin 7 Home Premium x64 system. However I tried installing the toolset as administrator yesterday. Installation worked fine, but - as always - no database was restored. It may be an idea to reinstall Dragon Age in a seperate file. Where exactly did you install Dragon Age?

Thanks for all the help, guys!

I have that setup aswell and it works from default installation path. Have you tried the three steps that I have posted?

OK, so I found out that SQL Server (BWDATOOLSET) is running. In fact, that application always got me a warning messages when trying to uninstall the toolset.

However you are loosing me on the last two steps: I found the entry in the registry, but where do I see whether the toolset is configured to a 64 bit or a 32 bit system?

And how do I check if the database has the right registry?

the toolset is 32bit period. the paths differ dependning on your OS. if you have a 64bit system it's located in a diffrent spot the on a 32bit system. you should only be looking at the 64bit paths.

if you find the registry then you simply check it's value. is it pointing to the right folder? (That was correct in my case but it's a possible error source)

No that wasn't it either. The path in the registry is correct. I will try creating that blasted database manually one last time. If that doesn't work, I'll give up (Grrr - I hate surrender - but really there is only so much time I have got for my pasttimes).

Thanks a lot for all the help!

Hey guys! I just succesfully downloaded the toolset! :D

All I did was do what CID-78 told me to (thanks much, I really mean it), and then re-install the game. Oh, and you know that black pop-up window that pops up when the install is near finish? DONT close it. I always did, and then for once, i tried leaving it be, and now. IT WORKS!!!

I still gotta learn how to use it though, but i guess i can find that on another thread. Anyways, thanks guys, for all the help!
