EA isn't against same-sex relations, try googling "The Sims"

The Sims is not a game aimed at fans of multiplayer shooting games in which little kids scream over microphones derogatory terms for homosexuals.

And neither is Mass Effect.

Mass Effect isn't multiplayer Anthropophobic .... I've not heard one kid on a microphone while I played it. In fact kids sohuldn't be allowed to buy the game or even watch it being played.

Kudos Brahlis! It's simple, Shepard is not gay. That's just the way it is. Wait for the Dragon Age expansion, or The Old Republic, or probably any other game to come out in the future from Bioware and make a gay character there. This one is straight ... sorry, just is.

Right. Shepard is not gay. That's just the way it is.

Unless she's a girl, of course.

You're playing the "role" of 'John' Shepard in the RPG. Which means that if they had given Shepard the ideals of being a homosexual/bisexual, you would be given that chance to participate in same-sex romance. Too bad for you though, because 'John' Shepard doesn't have those ideals, and you're suppose to be playing his "role".

If you want it THAT badly, go out and make your own game, implement the features that suit YOUR tastes, and stop your b*tchin. Be happy that BioWare is able to make such an amazing game for you to play, and get over your silly, STUPID, little problems. It's getting to be ridiculous.

Actually, let me state something for the sake of "meeting halfway".

If they were going to add this in by adding new characters for your party who have this orientation, then I'd have no problem with it. But changing current characters (not Shepard) to bisexual/homosexual for the sake of it is where I start to have a problem.

And seeing as how the second is how most people want it to happen, is why I ultimately have a problem with it.

This is exactly what I've been trying to tell people as to why there's no same sex romance. But seeing by this thread, they still don't understand.

Idiots.

Yep, this makes perfect sense.

Oh wait, not it doesn't. Remember Dragon Age?

Mass Effect 2 was obviously intended to be more mainstream than Dragon Age.

i agree mass effect 2 was meant for a wider audience and im sure bioware, and EA dont want to contend with the dreaded, angry, ignorant, and prejudice parents of today. (unfortunatley)

Because Tali fans wont shut the **** up about it.
That's why. <_<

Well, Bioware removed her plot armor. And she can die in several ways during the suicide mission. Boom! Headshot... that's how she checked out in my last game.

The point being, there's good cause to hope Tali fans have been granted all the fanservice they'll get. And the rest of us will get some in ME3, in turn.

My paragon I saved everyone,  But my renegade I only saved Miranda Thane, Jack, Grunt, and Samara. I killed Jacob and Garrus, legion, Tali, Mordin. I wanted to save only the ladies, but then I was like...I like Grunt  more then Tali. and Thane was loyal (because how can you play the game without doing all the loyalty missions?) and I like Thane too.

It still oozes the influence of Gears of War. Obviously not the first cover-based third-person shooter, but still. It's even more true for the second game, where they improved the combat but, some would argue, weakened the RPG elements.

Bioware has made, and will continue to make loads of games where your sexual orientation is your own choice and will be from the moment of character creation. This one it isn't. And it's too late to retcon it now that there are 2 of the 3 games done with. Sorry. Better luck to us all next game. I prefer to have the choice, and enjoyed the m/m romances in the past and was pleasantly surprised by them. But I'll be quiet and wait till a game comes along where it's appropriate.

Yet another Tali fan arguing against m/m romance, I see.

What would you have said if the answer from Bioware had been "Shepard isn't into xenophilia. He's not a frigging furry, for Pete's sake."

Would you have accepted that Shepard is not into quarians, turians, or drell?

Somehow I doubt it.

Well, let's say that they aren't. I guess this means female homosexuality is okay, but male homosexuality isn't.

your suppose to be able to mold "john" shepard to your liking, you are playing his role (beating collectors) no matter what but what u do on the way is what molds you meaning that u should have freedom with your sexual orientation, and why is it that "jane" shepard can and "john" shepard cant?Image IPB

The thing that really gets me is this:

Shepard, male or female, has a very mutable character. They can be aggressive, or diplomatic, or somewhere in between. They can be attracted to a human, a drell, a turian, an asari, a quarian. They can be serious and businesslike, or irreverant and wisecracking.

So with all of this variation, why is it so hard to accept the idea that Shepard might prefer their own sex or be bisexual? Moreso when a female Shepard certainly can be but it's a complete non-option for males? What is so integral to the male Shepard's highly mutable personality that he be completely straight?

Not to mention the whole can of worms regarding how sexual preference affects personality. Many gay men are completely masculine, and you would have no idea they were gay unless they told you. Sexual preference is just one aspect of a personality, and it seems incongruous that many other aspects of Shepard's personality are left to the player but this singular aspect is not when it comes to male Shepards.

It's not retconning because it is never established in the games themselves that Shepard is straight. Ever.

What they said was the idea was kicked around during production. A LOT of ideas a kicked around before production. Like male Shepards having a romance with Kaidan. A romance that has sound files within the game. More than Tali had.

Yeah, I don't buy it. Shepard is a more "defined character" ... but "defined" either as a straight guy or a bi woman, for whom the male/male (not even just homosexual sex) is more off-limits than interspecies sex, which just HAPPENS to line up with the arrangement least likely to garner a major blowback from mainstream audiences. Come on, please don't insult our intelligence here.

So?  Who cares why people want f/f or m/m...they want it.  No worse than people's reason's for wanting to romance the girl in the suit, or the velociraptor from ME1.

This too. Garrus and Tali were not romancable in BioWare's plans for the Mass Effect games; but they changed that for the fans. Why is what we want so much more horrid than what they wanted?

I believe I saw a mention that Tali was supposed to be a romance in ME1, but was removed when they thought that she wasn't going to get much attention.

People seem to gloss over this it was considered, Casey Hudson and the devs even admitted it, the surprise at her interest just pushed the idea back onto the plate.  It's not like they never considered it they just thought people would not like her, much to their chagrin it was quite the opposite some people hated her, and some people loved her.  I think that cemented her as an LI for ME2.

Seriously, what's the big deal?  So your male Shepard can't be gay, it really not worth all the griping.

It's just odd limitation to make when they allow Shepard to be of any (human) race and gender. To use your own argument -- why is Shepard's sexual orientation so big deal that it's taken out of the player's hands?
