depends more on what character your using. if your a warrior, head-on is doable. make sure you use dog and alistair to stun. and use pots when your live goes below about 60% cos he has a skill where he grabs u and shakes u for about half your life. if u keep your life high enough, its a good thing when he grabs cos thats about 10 second of free whacking from your other characters.
for people using ranged or mage as main character, a common tactic is to spread your team around and shoot while the person being chased runs.

If you are mage just heal your allies while they whoop the Ogre.

I assume you mean the 1st Ogre you encounter, at the top of the Tower of Ishal.
This is the game's first truly difficult fight.
There is no one tried-and-true way to do it, of course. It depends on your party make-up at this point.
I recommend having a lot of poultices, at least in the double digits. Try kiting the ogre around with Alistair, or Dog (if you have him), and attacking him with ranged attacks from the mages, archers (special arrows will come in handy). If you see the Ogre picking up a boulder, gather up your entire party and flank him. Run behind him and avoid the boulder. If the Ogre picks one of your characters up, be ready with a movement impair like Alistair's shield bash to try and interrupt it.
You do not want to simply swarm the Ogre and hope to overwhelm him. Keep out of his range and slowly break him down. Use everything at your disposal here to increase your damage. Keep your ranged party members far apart from one another to make kiting easier.

It was pretty easy for me as a warrior, just head on I lost Alistair, cause his hp is crap at that point, but just used taunt and the ogre went after my main who I just spammed heals on while the other's attacked

The only thing that makes the ogre a threat is its Ogre grab. When it does that, just stun or freeze it, it will then drop whoever its holding. Either than that, keep up with the heals, aggro on tank...

You have to pay very close attention in this battle. When the ogre stops and bends over, it means he is summoning a huge rock. Wait until he starts lifting the rock, then run like hell. He will throw the rock at where you used to be standing, and you can continue your attack. I don't reccommend going toe to toe with the Ogre, because he likes to pick people up and use them as punching bags.
