...also when you are in the Fade in the Mages tower having some dual blade ability is nice I noticed. Popping poison on your blades and going after mages works fast to down them coming out of mouse form. But you have to work fast or they will freeze you in place that's where the stunning poisons work great. They can't get a shot of while they are stunned and u just slice right through em fast and I only have 1 ability for meleeing (Dirty Fighting, which is a stun attack). But its the stun poison that does the work while my default attack (with high Dex to back it up) widdles them down.

Daggers are very good versus "soft" targets like mages even when u aren't specifically specced in being a true melee rogue.

If you want to be a tactical fighter, rogues are the best, having archery, stunning, stealth, backstabbing, lockpicking, poisoned blades, Acid throwing, etc. You can tactically defeat your opponents piecemeal and be unlike warriors who just wade into it and start slashing. If you like tactical gameplay, rogues are superior.

I was already wondering why my damage stayed so low with daggers while I have my dex at 35. The great benefit is that this dex also enhances my defense rate (evade, dodge, however you'd call it) which makes me able to actually tank melee mobs as good Alistair because well... they don't hit me.

However, on normal difficulty, I find the game challenging and not too hard. I prefer to be able to lockpick without being dependent on a partymember and thus enabling me to take along Mephisto (my doggie ^_^), Alistair and Morrigan, and we basically cut through the content like a warm knife goes through butter.

I don't use traps, I use poison only now and then in harder fights (Deathroot Extract) and my tactic is basically keeping the mobs CC'd while Mephisto and Alistair keep them busy and Morrigan picks them off.

My damage may be insignificant, but my overall value to the group is satisfying. I'm almost inclined rogues would be overpowered once this dex bug is fixed. I haven't died *once* since the start of the game and currently going through Redcliffe and the Mage's Tower which both are mentioned as quite hard spots for an early level.

Concluding: I'm having a blast as a rogue, and though dex seems to be bugged, it's still definitely worth playing in my opinion.

I'm playing as a rogue and really enjoy it. Sure dagger damage may not be as high as it should be, but I'm not a rogue to do DPS. That's what the warrior is there for in melee. I like setting my tanks loose and then cloaking and/or coming up behind the mobs and backstabbing them. The backstab modifier means it can hit pretty hard, much harder than standing toe-to-toe. When I aggro one I just run off and do it to another mob. The loot for me hasn't been too bad, sure it's not Tier 5 loot, but it does bring in a decent cash flow.

Pretty sure rogues are primarily made for damage. At least in my opinion, from a min/maxer's point of view, perhaps warrior is the better choice for damage, but I'm almost positive the design philosphy behind rogue means damage.

I found stealth sort of useless.  Even if you flank them you die soon
anyway the min they focous on you it actually works better if your tank
just takes the lead.

Stealth isn't useless. You're just doing it wrong. Let your stealthed rogues go in first. Get them to wait. Then you let the tank aggro then. When the tank has established hold over the enemies, have your rogues attack.

This is my first toon and I have not allocated my talents efficiently; spreading my skill points all over. So, to manage the weaknesses of my team, apart from turning the game setting to easy to critical points, I use my Rogue to pull mobs. Arm my Rogue with the longest range bow available, gear that increases backstab & crits. Activate stealth, pull two/three mobs at a go, focus on backstabbing mobs. Damage output is "acceptable". Team make up: Alistair as a pure tank, Morrigan for dps/cc/debuffs, Shale, Sten or my dog for dps. My rogue to pull mobs, debuffs and backstab for damage.
