Ya Oghren is typically the last character picked up, and i think it's safe to say thats why many are upset at the idea it's him returning... their just not emotionaly invested in him because he was only around for 1/4 of their game... and never really taken anywhere.
However (if he is the returning char) then this may have also been one of the dev's reasoning for bringing him back, to flesh him for the players who didn't like him, and to introduce him to the people like you who never really travled with him. Out of all the characters, I think Oghren has the most flexibility.
Don't worry Alistair will be back, but you two have two very diffrent roads you can't travel together... although I'm sure downtime inbetween your "buisness trips" involve living happily together.
I think it's because a lot of people have the same reaction to him as me, he's just not really in their version of the story. It's also hard to take him as much more then comic relief most of the time.
It's not that I don't like Oghren, its more that he's jut not really in my story. One of the great joys of DA:O for me is that my story can be so totaly different from another person playing the same game, but at the same time that has to be a real headache for writing an expansion.
For some reason something in the back of my head keeps going "the old favourite is the Dog", but this is purely only my personal speculation.
It just gets to me a bit though because I picked the riding off into the sunset being Grey Wardens together for ending for a good reason. If you do that the ending slides say that he never leaves your side except for the one trip to have the memorial built. So part of my meh feeling is just going by what is in the ending slides for DA:O.
It's not just me know, a fair number of the players I know are fairly attached to their version of the story and that inclues their honey, whomever it is. What I'm wondering is how that is going to end up reconsiling itself with that only one companion is retuning.
