I still think its duncan as the
returning person. in the trailers you see a ghost kick in the door and
its eaither duncan or calin

So you think a ghost is going to be a party member?

Yeah, that's just a generic Arcane Warrior, not a ghost. See? This is my PC getting chomped on by a dragon, unmodded.

I think the ghost is the main character... probably the developers wanted to show us a new specialization or stuff like that.

Hmm... This made me think. Wait, I have to post some screenies.
Hmm. I thought you might be right, because I HAVE seen a different kind of PC in one of the trailers, however, from a closer inspection of the image, it is visible that it's not the PC.
Image IPB
Why is it visible? Because the PC is behind the ghost, the one with the Juggernaut-like helm. It has been seen already more times with it in the trailers. So, we will have to wait.
I'd still say it's either a ghost or an Arcane warrior,

I suppose it does make sense, he was the least delevoped character in Origins. I didn't feel he had much of a personlity either, or at least--it was a tad cliche. I think my dog had more personlity than him...so it stands to reason, his story will be more delevoped in awakening. Though I'd much rather it had been Sten--Sten changes a little in origins but he doesn't quite do the whole 360. Plus, every bit of banter between him and other party members makes me cackle.

It's probably just a flight of fancy but I keep hoping the "returning character' is Shale having successfully returned to dwarf form. Probably not though since Shale is a DLC character.

Ya, out of all the companions I would say it's a safe bet Shale is the sole one with no chance of returning.

Partly since I tend to do Orzammar last before the landsmet, and my party is already well established, and partly because I never really was able to use him well, I've never really used Oghren in my party. My party is pretty well set as Alistair, Morrigian, and Wynne or Dog by that time. Well truth be told, one of the mages and the dog. I'd honestly be fairly disapointed if he was the returning companion since he is just not in my story asside from being a small amount of comic relief in camp.

It honestly would be disapointing, speaking here as an Alistair fangirl, to not have him back or rather for those of us who had our PCs enter in relationships with NPCs unable to have our sweethearts/lovers around in some form. Maybe though this is entierly during the mysterious trip to Highever that he takes if you don't make him King, which I did not specificly so I could keep my PC's sweetie with her.

Honteslty, whichever companion is the returing companion, I would hope that it would be one that feels a lot more involved in the story then Oghren is, or rather maybe the problem is that the story is so different depending on how you play and the choices you make in game.

Ya Oghren is typically the last character picked up, and i think it's safe to say thats why many are upset at the idea it's him returning... their just not emotionaly invested in him because he was only around for 1/4 of their game... and never really taken anywhere.

However (if he is the returning char) then this may have also been one of the dev's reasoning for bringing him back, to flesh him for the players who didn't like him, and to introduce him to the people like you who never really travled with him. Out of all the characters, I think Oghren has the most flexibility.

Don't worry Alistair will be back, but you two have two very diffrent roads you can't travel together... although I'm sure downtime inbetween your "buisness trips" involve living happily together.

I think it's because a lot of people have the same reaction to him as me, he's just not really in their version of the story.  It's also hard to take him as much more then comic relief most of the time.

It's not that I don't like Oghren, its more that he's jut not really in my story.  One of the great joys of DA:O for me is that my story can be so totaly different from another person playing the same game, but at the same time that has to be a real headache for writing an expansion.

For some reason something in the back of my head keeps going "the old favourite is the Dog", but this is purely only my personal speculation.

It just gets to me a bit though because I picked the riding off into the sunset being Grey Wardens together for ending for a good reason.  If you do that the ending slides say that he never leaves your side except for the one trip to have the memorial built.  So part of my meh feeling is just going by what is in the ending slides for DA:O.

It's not just me know, a fair number of the players I know are fairly attached to their version of the story and that inclues their honey, whomever it is.  What I'm wondering is how that is going to end up reconsiling itself with that only one companion is retuning.

With only 5 companions, I'm betting their gonna want all of them able to talk talk. Dog was fun and all, but he was just a dog... with such a limited group he and shale are the least two likly in my book.

But who knows, he would certainly be the easiest right?

The Dog also you have two opporunities to get, never looses happness with you, and you can't ask to leave or kill off or marry off. He also does have some great dialog triggers though. :)

Shale I doubt would bit it since she comes from DLC only.

I thought that was just the PC using Combat Magic...

This.

Also, Oghren, and all DA:O dwarves for that matter, infuriate me to no end.  As if the gruff american accents weren't bad enough, the way they use british slang and curses (I.E., "sodding" & "bloody") in gruff american accents just sounds... well, I can't really think of a pronoun that describes just how horrifying it is.  Either give us Alistair or Warhound, or save the spot for a new and remotely interesting character.

the ghost in the trailers is Logain.if you killed him in the landsmeet to make alistair king he comes back as a ghost to get revenge. I swear in the first trailer there is a part with logains voice right after it shows the ghost kicking open the door. but people will probably deny that as much as oghren being the returning companion.

Oghren. Meh.

Don't give us companions like Alistair Sten, Wynn and OUR DOG and take them away. :(

That would be utterly and COMPLETELY ridiculous.

Everyone knows that that would SHATTER the game; you might as well not even play.  You could load it up, go to the crapper for five hours, come back and have the game finished.

As a Human Noble, that would be true.  But the other 5 origins, kill Dog at Ostagar.

But if this is actually true, why is the PC near the so-called Loghain? Well, if he IS Loghain, then my guess is that you and PC are seeking Alistair's vengence, and execute him, which means he did something wrong :
1) Killing Loghain : If the wrong thing was killing Loghain, this means Duncan is still alive
2) He handed Ferelden to Orlais : Very wrong for Loghain, and enough to come back from the dead.

I really really want an explanation as to why they added him here. Its NO LONGER A SECRET its KNOWN NEWS, so please explain to us why you chose one of the leats favorite characters in the game to return? I love the game, it was awesome but I never got down with Ogrehn. Most importantly was because I got him towards the end of the game and I had already established a relationship with Sten. So again, EXPLAIN to us why is it Ogrehn you chose? You say you care a lot about player feedback but player consensus was that Ogrehn was one of teh LEAST favorite players, I ask you explain again why but I know you guys probably wont. Disappointing.

WHy would anyone kill Dog at Ostergar, that's just mean. :(

For the other Origins you have a second opportunity to get Dog in the RTO DLC.

It's false, according to this poll which was answered by many people, Oghren is one of the 4 most favorite characters (and 2 others, Alistair and Morrigan, would be poor choices for story reasons).
