They should have just said: 5 new companions + Oghren. Or not mention Oghren at all and let people discover it for themselves. That would have not created so much hatred towards him.

When they promised an "old favorite" they set the expections too high. Everyone went crazy about how their favorite is returning, but they got dissapointed when they saw Oghren in the trailers. You must never set the expactations of your consumers too high, it's a basic marketing rule. The "old favorite" statement is what killed Oghren IMO. It made people hate him for no reason.

With that said, I really have no problem seeing him again; even though I admit I got a bit dissapointed at first just like everyone else.

It still isn't officially confirmed to be Oghren though. Then again for me he's not an old favorite, he's barely in my game.

They're tricking us. It isn't actually Oghren we see, but his twin brother Hogren. Hogren is so crude that even his brother finds his ribaldry excessive.

Oghren's awesome. Stop complaining your favorite character wasn't returning. In my mind, Oghren is the best compromise because if they're only going to bring back 1 character it would be unfair that it be a romance character since that would leave those who didn't romance that character in the dust.

Only used Oghren during the Branka Quest, never used him again. Did not care for his character type, just excessively crass. I find Alistair, Morrigan and my trusty hound to be the best companions by far. I would not mind having Shale again as well. If Oghren is the returning companion, I will not even select him unless I don't have a choice.

decent : get at least two to choose from.

Not to jump to conclusions, but it isn't said it WILL be Oghren. No one said it, apart from fans like me or whoever else. Mr. Gaider clearly hasn't said anything that helps. BioWare is known for their... mind tricks and... manipulation and who knows what else. All I know is that even if it's Oghren, for all those that tell he's the worst character option, or even if it's someone else, for the Oghren fans and me, we need to have faith in BioWare's writing skills. Their previous games have shown that they DO know what they do. Otherwise, I wouldn't consider them one of the best developers around.

Same here... i find him quite boring .
 
His talks were way over the top and pretty shallow, never fell the need to put him in my party, even less when i see some of his comments...

Everybody is somebody's least favorite. There's no choice they could have made that wouldn't have upset someone.

But in seriousness, I'm highly suspecting that they'll pull a Mass Effect in terms of the companion, and it'll be whoever has the highest friendship with the player (and if the character has max affinity with multiple people and no romance, it'd go down a certain order or be selected randomly). If a new character is created, the companion defaults to Oghren.

It'd completely make sense if this was the case, as that way EVERYONE'S "old favorite" will come back, because it's you who chooses who that old favorite will be (unless, as previously said, you start a fresh character). It also makes sense that Oghren is constantly shown in trailers if he's the default character, because for trailer purposes they're already treating certain things (like King Alistair) as set-in-stone even though that's not the case in-game.

I think the expansion was planned and started before original game was even released. The don't even actually know who are the favourite NPC's, but they think that cursing "Khelgrar-style" dwarf could not be a flop?

Oghren was nice guy to chat in the camp, but poor companion in the battlefield. Sten rocked as my tank and I had no use for dwarf with worse levels and abilities.

Actually it would make next to no sense... you have no grasp of how difficult it is to write for, pay for, and incorporate the companions.  Let me sum it up for you, it's very very very hard.

Now imagine they did all that hard work for each orgional companion... and then only let you use one of them depending on your favorite from the first game.

One specific and single companion is coming back (plus the chance of a secret companion. Who knows) at the moment Oghren is the most likley being he's in all trailers save the children. 

And I can promise you, the only way you'll see all old companions is through cameos or future expansions and sequels.

Technically, Oghren is actually better then Sten, given the only true diffrence is Sten has one less specilization point where as Oghren starts out with one of the better specilizations in the game. Of course, if you come across him late in the game then Oghren will be auto-leveled and prob not to your liking, but if gotten early-mid game he is essiantly a better Sten with really really nice gear.

And Oghren is not flop... considering he does pretty good on polls, only being crushed by romancible companions.

actually if they had to pick ONLY ONE character that story wise would make the MOST sense- it has to be the dog.



maybe the dog isn't an old favorite for most (i'm sure hes more popular than oghren) but its not like the main euthanized thier freaking mabari or put it up for adoption to travel the world unfettered by the chains of slobber and pooper scooping.



if anyone came back as playable, it SHOULD be the dog.

No, he wasn't flop by any means. I just tought that they were planning make him one of favourites at the beginning because almost everybody love his kind of bad-ass dwarf and It's hard to believe that there is somebody who won't even crack a smile with his stories

Sten was better for me because I had played him at the beginning (I arrange my characters a lot during battle) and it was hard to change Oghren at anybodys place because I didn't need another tank and the specilization in my case suckes a little bit. Even I went to Orzammar right afer Redcliffe, I had feeling that he came too late to "get along" with my party.  So -  he was not much big character in my game, only I loved his stories and did his pesonal quests.

Chuck Norris is neither Teagan nor Duncan. They couldn't select one that ends with an "n". Therefore, Chuck Norris is the CRRRIMSON OARS captain!
