Are you sure that poll was not affected by the fact they showed him in the trailer.. then people who defends Bioware's choice has voted for him? Was that poll built BEFORE or AFTER the trailer? I believe that, for example, if in trailer they had shown Sten many people then might vote for him and not for Oghren

Mass suggestive manipulation.

It's not a manipulation.. who may wants to manipulate anyone? for what purpose? It's just a normal behaviour of people when they see the fait accomplished... People who would like a SPECIFIC companion will vote for him/her.. People who like Oghrain and people who don't care who the retourning companion will be may vote for him... just beacuse they think "Why not?"

BTW- I was agreeing with you :P

Even if it WAS manipulation does it matter? People can't be manipulated into liking him. Sure if they were on the fence, they may have been pushed to one side, but they still selected him didn't they?

Thats saying allot for a character that is often picked up last (besides secret companion.)

She freakin flirts with Sten. Literally flirts with. She goes on about his glistening muscles in the most akward conversation in the game.

She is a she because of her somewhat feminine personality and past.

Yes, was a 'her' - now an 'it', I suppose.

But in seriousness, I'm highly suspecting that they'll pull a Mass Effect in terms of the companion, and it'll be whoever has the highest friendship with the player (and if the character has max affinity with multiple people and no romance, it'd go down a certain order or be selected randomly). If a new character is created, the companion defaults to Oghren.

This is very much NOT the case. We do not have the budget in an expansion to do full versions of multiple characters from Origins only to let the player use one. While that would be great from a replayability standpoint, it's just not feasible. Everyone does not get their own "personal favorite" coming back. That's just the way it is, folks.

But Oghren is almost nobodies favorite.....Just saying.....

Why is it that when a person dislikes a character they think most people agree with them.

Sorry bro, but the biggest "who do you want back in Awakaning poll" I've seen (well over 200 posts) had Oghren come in 4th place, only beaten by morrigan, Alistair, and Leliana.... and Oghren was fairly high above 5th place Zevran.

So from what I've seen (notice how I don't pretend to know what everyone thinks) Oghren is popular... just saying...

I'm sorry, but it's responses like this that annoy the hell out of me. I wasn't a fan of Sten, but if he was the returning character I wouldn't go and say "why Sten NOBODY likes sten, whaa whaa whaa." Cause it's a d*** move and not true.

5 out of 8 companions is something to be proud of? Out of the multiple polls I've seen (4-5) he constantly comes below the 4th spot. Always. He's terrible all around, and the poll responses support that assertion.

I can understand if Bioware wants to "expand" his background/story, but the problem with that is two-fold: (1) I hate him from DAO and probably will NOT use him because he's so boring and (2) The fact that I did not become attached to him in Origins, but did become attached with multiple other characters means a large part of the player base would much rather see someone they actually CONNECTED with from the first game carry over.

People like to see the characters they loved come back....not ones they could barely tolerate.

At worst, Oghren is a poor substitute for Sten, and at best a sub-par comedy relief character.

Morrigan (42%, 715 Votes)
Alistair (32%, 539 Votes)
Leliana (26%, 444 Votes)
Dog (9%, 149 Votes)
Zevran (8%, 131 Votes)
The Secret Companion (7%, 112 Votes)
Oghren (5%, 88 Votes)
Sten (5%, 86 Votes)

I'm done defending Oghren. I know he has allot of fans. I've seen it. He did really really damn well in the biggest poll I've seen 4th place, crushed Zevran.

Christ I should just be happy he is returning in some form, but I'm sure you all can understand getting a bit pissed off when people bash the hell outta something you like. I was thrilled to here he's coming back, then I see people calling him the worst character ever. Guess I got too worked up over an official forum... a stupid move and rule #1.

I do hope every character returns in a well done manner.

Seems to me a lot of people don't care about whether it makes sense or not in the story and just want their favourite back for no reason other than fanservice. Seriously, what's the point of bringing Zevran, Leliana or especially Morrgian back? I love Morrigan, but I don't want to see her again at all until Dragon Age 2. Zevran and Leliana are done, there is nothing left to do with those characters. Neither of them want to be Grey Wardens, and they leave the country at the end of the game unless you romance them. Everyone leaves the country except Alistair and Oghren, take a hint.

I hope Oghren goes through the Joining and becomes a Grey Warden, that would cool, I could see him doing it. Also hope he plays a bigger role than just comedy, he has potential which anyone who took Oghren to the Fade or Guardian would have seen.

I'll let you kids go back to stomping your feet now.

Its stupid to take these polls seriously. Ever hear of random sampling? None of these who are your favorite dragon age companion polls represent the average gamer. Especially not ones on forums.

It's not wrong to defend a character you like but like I said up in the above :innocent: *see the emoticon is looking up!* you can't take forums for realz. All you gotta do is go check out the ME2 forums to realise these forums are composed of crazy fanboys like me and you. We're the minority bro!

I do it sometimes to. It's easy to look at a poll and think that represents everyone. But when you see Zevran range from everywhere from 3rd to 7th place on these polls, you realise they can only be taken with a grain of salt. Only consistent thing I see in polls Is that Alistair, Morrigan, and Leliana are on top, Wynee is on the bottom, and everyone else bounces inbetween.

YES!!! All the people who were not intelligent enough to realize Morrigan had no chance as the returning character, can now finally shut up. They have revealed two mages and so leaves only two rogues and two warriors left to fill the spots up. We have seen the two warriors, dwarf and bald guy, and we have seen one rogue, black pony tail. Probably leaves the last rogue spot to a female, at least I hope. Velanna seems very...angry. Can't imagine she would be a good romance character with her backstory, so female rogue it is. Who knows though?

plus who's to say it was a random sample, the only one's who could possibly know that is bioware. you think they just put it out there for no reason, probably not in my opinion they want to know the opinion of the consumers to please them not just so they make a poll, and dont take notice of it. i think bioware has there reasons for the polls.

Thank God you don't work as a game writer, then. They are not "done" any more than Oghren, depending on your ending.

Errr, a good random sample is one that represents the player base a whole. Even then it's hardly a good representation unless you get thousands of votes. Bottom line though, don't trust what you hear on official forums. Bioware did say they had stats of companions used, classes chosen, gathered from player's games, so they have some nice hard data to go on thats far more of a good representaion then polls or forums.

Now, see, I don't disapprove of this idea- Oggy becoming a Warden, that is.  He would have been far cooler if only he had a DWARVEN accent, and not an excessively gruff american one (I have said this about all DO:A dwarves, and shall say it over and over to all who would listen).  I'll even take the current accent if only he would stop mangling british curses and slang with it (I have said this as well, and yadayada).  A Warden Oggy with a less nails-on-chalkboard speech pattern would be win.

Please, Bioware, heed my prayers.  Make Oghren cool.
