Oghren is definitely the 'returning favorite' [pictures]

But really i seriously hope that it isn't Oghren returning despite the fact that all the evidence points to him, he was my least favourite out of all the companions in DAO, i just don't like him.

But I agree, Oghren makes the most sense, because he's not entangled with the main character at all. He just stays topside, ready to be be "re-activated". Of course certain characters would make a lot of sense for some players (Leliana, Zevran and non-king Alistair with romances are said to stay with their spouses), but wouldn't make any sense for others who had them killed etc.Oghren is pretty much the same guy in every player's game, so he's easiest to build upon.
What I really really hope for however (and, I admit, also expect after how polished DAO was in that department) are good plausible explanations for the absence of my old party members. Even if it's just a conversation my character is having with some NPC where I can select a few options what Zevran (in my case) is doing while I am here slaying yet more Darkspawn. That would not require re-hiring any voice actors, because it'd be unspoken character lines. Please, pretty please, Bioware, no killing off or shoving aside party members/romance options without further mention!

When it comes down to in the end, is that I really just want my non-king happily still a Grey Warden Alistair at my side. Some of it is the favorite wording. I like Lelianna, my character can't stand her. I find Wynne annoying, my character adores here, Alistair we both adore and he's seen as a cameo as king in the trailers. What I wonder is how that is effected if you don't make him king since it seems like the game cannon is:
male human noble
Alistair king
take the dark ritual
Morrigan as lover
my personal cannon is:
female Dalish elf
Anora as sole ruler
take the dark ritual
Alistair as lover
Between the different options that we have and the different endings since pretty much every single companion can be dead depending on the choice you make which means that the retuning favorite might not even be there for everyone?

Which means that the expansion will probably be standalone.spirit-dog wrote...
I still think the Dog is the absolute easiest to bring back. That being said, I tend to see Oghren as a disgusting drunk in a lot of ways, but some of this relates to RL experiences with people who drank too much then misbehaved.

Actually, it won't. I'd consider it as a big DLC for Origins...Angel of Nessus wrote...

Which still makes me wonder how they're going to deal with the possible ending choices from DA:O considering that pretty much every companion can be dead or driven away depending on how you play it, and how people play it seems different from the what feels like 'intended' cannon.

I am eagerly awaiting reading the posts on Awakening to see the player's reviews once it is released. I know for certain I will need to wait for a MAC version to be released anyway (finger's crossed) and am VERY unhappy about that. Players are already angry over the possibility that they will be unable to continue their relationships/marriages in this expansion, which I find ridiculous. Then we have the topic of the returning companion possibly being someone that MOST (not all) players actually do not even want in their party anyway. Of course it is impossible to please everyone but I wonder if potentially displeasing so many will have an impact on this expansion. The entire reason people play/buy games is for enjoyment of their leisure time, not for aggravation and disappointment.

If anyone went thru the heartbreaking nge in SWG in one evening I lost 50 guild members who never returned to the game and from that day on it was never the same again !
How many games and good games are being destroyed by stupid decisions

From the trailer, Alistair is back as King we can presume but what will be Leliana's background story to have left her favorite grey warden if its the case?
Awakening is already ordered for me but would really like to see her back. As im sure that Morrigan is kept away and will do a surprise comeback in another DLC or sequel.
Oh well...*sighs* will keep hoping and waiting

Very true. These stupid decisions will potentially have a negative financial impact on game developers who insist on being overly cleaver just to fulfill their own egocentric views. I have read many posts about how 'they don't have the budget to do this/that...blah...blah'. The facts are - either people will or will not buy a game. The developers will NOT make money on a game if people don't like what they have put out. If you want to make money - put out what people want, simple.

Yes, people will not buy the game because Bioware hasn't shown they are completely dedicated to ensuring your romantic sub-plot is at the forefront of promotional material and more than likely most of your former companions will have a reduced role in the expansion. Budget be damned, this expansion will be a total flop if Leliana isn't whispering sweet nothings in my ear while I kill Darkspawn.

I will try not to pass judgement on Bioware too quickly, I am waiting to see what transpires in this expansion. If the expansion falls flat they have no one to blame but themselves. Seriously, using the excuse that 'we don't have the budget to put out an expansion that satisfies our gamers' is tantamount to marketing suicide. If I were running Bioware and one of its employees made a public statement like that, they would be packing up their belongings. I don't mean for this to sound feminist in ANY way (truly) but game developers should hire more women to help with market research, analysis and creative development. Women are very good knowing and understanding their target market and how to expand upon it. This is not meant in any way to insult any other gender, just that being a women I can see the vast potential in having women play a larger role in the gaming industry. I think Dragon Age has the potential to be an Epic title, however you need the drive, creativity and willingness to take risks in order for that to happen.
