I have updated the game manually to version 1.01, the patch link of bioware's website.

However now the start icons in the taskbar (windows 7) and the icon in the games menu dont work, when i click to start the game it says it cannot find the program.

It does work through the disk starter, but i shouldnt have to do this Posted Image

I havent even started trying to redeem DC yet, i bought my copy of play.com and theres no indication how to get the items with it! nothing came in with the box.

considering this is a bioware game i am frankly appalled after reading the problems and the ones i am experiencing, it should not have been released in this state, let alone for them to release a buggy patch!

ideas on the start icons??

thanks. Posted Image

It's a corrupted game definition file that was installed from the update. You'll need winrar to fix it or and app to open RAR files. Navigate to your DVD open the data folder and then open apps_ship.rar .

Inside the rar file will be a folder bin_ship. Open it and then copy the file daoriginsgdf.dll to the same directory in your Dragon Age install folder overwriting the existing ( or alternatively you can back it up somewhere first ) . This will fix the problem.

If you don't want or can't do all that, then just navigate to your Dragon Age install folder and make a shortcut directly to DAOriginsLauncher.exe and that will let you play. ( won't fix the Games Explorer though)

That didn't fix it for me.

I still try to run the game from the launcher - and click Start... and it doesn't do anything.

I tried running the game's EXE - and it comes up with some side-by-side error.

Who knows.

Yours is a different problem I think. You may need to try the Visual C++ fix described here:

This is total Bull**** though that a company this big releases a patch that corrupts your game files. More than ever i am convinced blizzard is in charge of this company now.

Shouldn't need to go find anything. Fanboy! Nothing wrong expecting a certain degree of competence.

The dll solution worked for me, but by replacing this file, am I undoing something in the patch?

I'm on Win 7 Pro x64
