Recently started a sentinel after completing the game with an infiltrator. The fact that sentinels have no abilities that boost weapon damage suggests to me that if you try to rely on guns you're going to feel rather gimped (not sure if taking an ammo power as your bonus compensates).

Which is precicely why it is often wise to pick AP or Warp Ammo, since you can pretty much compensate for everything else, in one way or another.

Yep, a Sentinel with Warp ammo and either an assault rifle or Sniper rifle (My personal choice) has pretty much all bases covered. even on Insanity I felt that there wasn't a single situation I couldn't deal with in a "Jack of all trades" manner. Obviously, specialists will deal with individual situations better, but as far as staying flexible, the Sentinel wins, hands down.

Yes, did take warp ammo as first choice - felt that already had more than enough active abilities to play with, especially considering the global cooldown system. Wanted to try something different from AP (which already have on my infiltrator).

As far as active powers are concerned find Warp very useful but not much fun, Overload & Cryoblast fun and useful, and Throw fun but mostly useless - obviously all rather situational. Am I missing something with Throw?

i would play sentinel after your first playthrough. i really like the sentinel, but i like the class even more with reave, or other bonus skills you can only acquire from beating the game once.

Nah, Throw's fairly worthless on insanity, since everything's armored or shielded. It'd be helpful if it'd do something minor to things like swarming husks (even if armored) to give you time to back up a bit :)... but it doesn't.   That being said, on vet/hardcore it's pretty awesome for chucking Husks and abominations away.

I love playing Sentinel except for one glaring issue....having to unlock Warp with 3 points in Throw. If throw wasn't so situational (awsome for Husks / Collectors, useless against anything with defenses), I'd not have a problem with it, but as it is it makes no sense to force skill unlocks in this game...my skill points are limited and what is the point of FORCING me to take a skill I chose not to use for missions without Husks or Collectors?

Throw's saved my life a number of times on insanity. I don't use it to kill people, I use it to stun the flamethrowers or shotgun rushers.

On insanity theres always some suicidal person rushing you and you really don't have time to deal with them since the AI's focus so hard on your main character..

Don't sweat it :) you'll have plenty of points.  Besides... Throw isn't completely useless!

That makes sense, and I suppose its extremely short cooldown (3s?) makes it very handy for stuff like this.

Plus on the rare occasion you get to throw someone over a ledge, the fun factor makes it almost worth it just for that!

I only found throw fun when coupled with pull. Then trying to score a screwball to see the enemies fly off into oblivion.

I'd say that the Sentinel is the most powerful class of the game. Rounded it three times, with Soldier, Infiltrator and Sentinel. The Sentinel playthrough was a real walk in the park.

I just started an insanity run with the Sentinel and I'm having a difficult start. I'm doing Mordin's recruitment quest and slogging through all the mercs with miranda and jacob is just painful compared to my run with the soldier. I am assuming from all I've read that it gets better once I get my level and skills up though.
