In an effort to speed my way through more of Mass Effect 1, I have some questions regarding what side quests impact Mass Effect 2. The biggest time consuming and honestly most tedious portion of Mass Effect 1, are the explorations.
1) League Medals
2) Minerals
3) Matriarch Writings
4) Prothean Data discs
I would honestly spend more time investigating these than simply doing most of the side quests and I wonder if their completion impacts the Mass Effect 2 completion, even as much as an email or trigger switch.

no effect at all, except the minerals, which will save you a couple of tedious planet scan/probing

But if your wanting a quick play in ME then your better off doing the planet scanning in ME2 as tedious as it is, it is a lot quicker.

Yeah I'd deffinantly agree... however, for the most impact (which to be honest is very little, keep everything you get a chance to kill alive). However, I don't feel that ME1 effects ME2 that much at all... it helps the player understand the story more... but besides from a few character appearances here in there, the choices you made made very little impact.
sidenote: don't hate... I'm just starting to feel a bit dissappointed with how little they connect, they are both great games though.

there's at least one decision which crops up in ME2 with a very strong hint that it'll be a big factor in ME3. but yeah, for the most part the only carry-overs are some references and cameos, especially for those outside of the main storyline quests

so basically if you just focus on the main quest/story line that is sufficient enough to then upload to ME2?
