Promo DLC has gone too far. EA / Bioware slights those of us without gaming PCs.

Unlike the Dragon Age DLC, the Mass Effect 2 DLC is largely forgettable and not really that great. Zaeed feels very non-integrated and tacked on compared to how Shale felt for Dragon Age.

I got all the DLCs, except for the Dr. Pepper crap, simply pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe ME2 from gamestop,

Waaaaah, waaaah, I don't get incredibly inconsequential bonus items that barely affect the game at all! Seriously, get over it. They're just minor bonus items that will get replaced and barely affect the game even while you're using them.

I would be sad if i could not access say Zaeed, Shale or Kasumi without preordering or buying from a specific store.

But not for sniper rifle or armor. While i understand people think its unfair they cannot get x if they don't live in USA, if it wasnt for that USA company the item may never have been invented for them in the first place.

Do not assume its content meant for the full game which has been sold to a company. Most of the time this stuff is done afterwards and was never intended for the game afaik.

I don't even mind promotional items. What I mind is that it is that they made it impossible to physically get all of them. Just make one set and offer it to all stores, then the company still gets profit and they don't have people b****ing at them.

Master of Smash is right their should be no way that their should be 5 different promos for this game. Nobody understands why they just can't release the DLC to the public and on top of that more than likely make us pay for it.
I have a regular copy so it came with the Cerberus Network Card which fails cause i was only able to get Zaeed and the the Normandy mission when it states,

  • Download Zaeed, a lethal gun for hire, for your squad!
  • Access new and devastating weaponry
  • Receive updates and news via direct feed in-game
Take on perilous new missions and assignments
I have Zaeed, the news feed which i find useless, and the Normandy mission.

Sorry if i went off topic of this Forum post.

Well you have to wait for the stuff to come out on the network.
Since Zaeed and the normandy crash site is the only things thats released over that network at the moment, besides the preorder dlc / Dr.Pepper dlc......

HOWEVER! I agree with the TC.
I am very disappointed with this tactic and am getting rather pissed off abou tsuch bull**** specials.
I understand that preorder bonuses are there to entice people to get the game early, but there should NEVER EVER be different preorder items for ordering from different stores.

ALL BONUS CONTENT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE AND ANYONE TO GET REGUARDLESS OF THE PLATFORM AND IF THEY GET A DIGITAL COPY OR A PHYSICAL COPY!!

(the only exception to this is if you get the Collectors version or a standard version) Because your spending more money for extras.

I agree with the OP, as I am a sucker for this kind of crap.

That being said, I am willing to pay extra for this stuff. I simply want to try it out, if I don't like it I wasted my money. If I can't get it, though ****, I can deal. If/When it becomes available I'll buy it, if not, whatever...

Yes, I am missing Incisor rifle as well. It is annoying because it is the only DLC that I am missing at this point. I like to snipe in the game...

I agree with you that promotional/exclusive DLC is absurd for Dragon Age/Mass Effect 2. It would not be as bad if Mass Effect had extensive armor and weapons selection, but it does not. If you are missing Dr Pepper items, you are missing 50% of head gear options in game.

Some of promotional DLC is pretty useful in game actually. Blackstorm is one of my favorite guns. Dr. Pepper DLC has nice stats and look better than default head gear options IMO. I feel bad for people who can not get these items.

DLC armor is not as nice as above items, but it still fun to mess around with. Moreover, in the begging of the game and on harder difficulties, DLC armor and Collector rifle are great options as well.

Incisor rifle is the worst offender for sure. At least, other items are relatively easy to get if one is willing to do a bit of extra work. To get Incisor on 360, I pretty much have to buy the game for both 360 and PC. As much as I love Mass Effect, there is no way that I will drop $60 bucks for just the rifle.

I realize that it is just a DLC, but it does annoys me nevertheless. I doubt that anything will change though. On the side note, it is hilarious that Collector edition's artbook actually has the picture of Blackstorm in it.

Ummm... I have the incisor rifle on my 360 game... do a google search of "Mass Effect 2 incisor rifle" and the first link should be to the XBox live marketplace where you can download it to your xbox for free... OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING CAUSE IT'S FREE AND ANYBODY CAN GET IT!!!1111!!!

Seriously... do you people use the internet or are forums the only place stupid people are allowed to roam?

God I've been wanting a well-written thread like this for days now. Thank you OP, I am 100% in full support of your position. It leaves a sour taste in the consumer's mouth to have to put up with this. I am willing to pay for items I was not "eligible" for, plain and simple, how does that not make good business sense? I've posted this thought in several threads now, but this one is the one that says what I feel the best.

I have no sour taste in my mouth. These things are incentives to buy from specific places. Game developers have been doing similar things for many years.

Doesn't work. When you try to download it, it pops up a message saying, "

Sorry

This item is not available for purchase from Xbox
LIVE Marketplace on the Web."

Your missing the point of the promotions.  The promotions aren't to make Bioware/EA money, its deals made with specific stores so that pre-ordering at THAT store gives you something unique.  It's basically a way for stores to try and out-sell the other stores.

I've seen far worse then this.  Some games have preorder bonuses from half a dozen different sites/stores that are unique to that store only.  And it doesn't bother me, as long as its not important items.  I have three DLC armor sets(Terminus, Blood Dragon, and Collector), but I wouldn't pay for a single one, the first two look nice, but I like the customized look of having my infiltrator and my soldier wearing different sets of armor.

ROFL,  the link was dead for weeks. I agree.  Internet and stupidity goes hand in hand though;). BTW, I do not care if others got it.  My point is that all the DLC should be aviliable to everyone.  I say more power to the people who got DLC through leak earlier.  This promo/exclusive DLC crap should end period.

I realise that it is just a DLC, and it is not important in grand scheme of things, but I do have every right to be annoyed about it.  After all, I did pay $70 for this game.

It's a few small items. If it was bigger I'd agree, but it's really nothing.

I don't even use the crappy Terminus stuff .... I use the Collector rifle though, it's great.

I'm probably really late to this thread, and everything that I have to say has most likely been said, but...

1. The amount of promotional DLC and the diversity seems, to me, to be an attempt to give everyone a chance to get something. Not everything, but something.

2. Promotional DLC is, as far as I know, designed to drive sales on new versions of the game. That is how these companies make money, and continue to make awesome games like Mass Effect. The fact of the matter is that Bioware is a company, and they need to make money, so they have to be expected to behave this way.

3. The DLC is not required to enjoy the full version of the game! It's just extra stuff! Sure, it's cool, but so is the rest of the game!

So it's not as if Bioware is sending you half a game, and then asking you to cough up more money for the rest. It's just extra tidbits that you can get if you want. There's really no need to get so angry about it.

What is so wrong about wanting to have everything in a game? It makes no sense to not make it available after a certain period of time.

It seems to me that many people here are missing the op's point. His/her whole point is based off of the fact that all of the DLC FOR EVERY GAME should be available to all people who buy said game. If not for free then at least at a later date for purchase over the XBox Marketplace. This allows those of us who are COMPLETIONISTS (This includes me) or HARDCORE FANS to collect every item possible for said game. It is not about one piece of sh*tty equipment, because frankly, I agree that the DLC armors suck. It is about collecting all possible items in game. I for one STRONGLY AGREE with the op and hope that Bioware and EA will make all of the DLC downloadable through the XBox Marketplace soon. I would gladly pay for the items.

I agree with OP, Promotional items should be available to all after a certain period of time, gamestop items usualy are availible on the marketplace after 3+ months in most games.

Promo/exclusive items may minimaly affect gameplay now, but if left unchecked the qualityof exclusive content can only increase as the budgets of future games increase where we could very well see unique characters/missions availible only through certain stores.

No that was a **** up by the live marketplace team, and was up the 25th and was quickly removed a couple hours after that.
So unless its back up again, which it wasnt last thursday, then its no longer available on 360 marketplace.

I don't care two bits about some of that other stuff. I don't even drink Dr. Pepper and I wouldn't have gone out of my way to buy some for a couple of Armor Pieces. If they were somehow going to disrupt the game, say, you couldn't finish the game without them, I'd have an issue with that. However, they don't add anything to it.

I'd wait some time and see if they are released later.

You know.. after getting much of the promotional stuff. most of it is junk. The only 2 things even useful, has been the hoods from Dr Pepper. And you don't even need to drink Dr Pepper for that. 3 bogus email accounts and one "free-non promotional code" is all you need.

I won't use the armors because there is no partial hood/showing face option. The weapons are meh..
