*CONSIDER THIS TOPIC TO HAVE SPOILERS FROM NOW*

I was just thinking how Bioware has said they plan to support the game with DLC ranging in size from small things up to expansion pack, much like they are with Dragon age.
I'm happy to hear it, but plot-wise where would an expansion fit in?
The game's ending is pretty well wrapped up in terms of leaving the big stuff to ME3 so I can't see there being much post-main plot stuff to go by, especially with the huge cost of voicing all the possible companions who survived which might be a bit unfeasable for just an expansion pack as opposed to a sequel.

As for mid game, the whole game is a build up to the suicide mission and it focuses entirely on that and the collectors, for Shepard to just go away to do something unrelated would seem a bit weird.

I guess it's possible that it could involve going back to the council and showing the reaper proof along with perhaps preparing the defences in preparation to ME3? I dunno.

Anyway I just thought I'd see what thoughts other people have had.

I could see an expansion pack down the line connecting the events of ME2 to ME3. I think for now though we'll just be seeing missions that don't really relate to the main quest at all.

For one thing, they could do Citadel Expansion and really make Citadel more than just 3 floors with one club and 4 shops :)

Same goes for Omega, Illium.

And they can always add new star clusters full of sidequests, new gear etc.

This would not cause any problems story-wise.

And after some time they might even make a kind of a bridge between ME2 and ME3.

Anything to fill the vacuum.

But there are several things you can expect given drops made in conversation with key characters.

Plus, you have to get back into the good graces with the Council (races) anyway. No doubt expansions will somehow be related to getting back into your goody twoshoes mode.

Plus you can expect retribution from the Illusive man for some choices made at the end of the game. Those wounds are very fresh. Consider that EDI is probably on the ship in the first place as a guarantee that the Illusive man will get his ship back.

Well...the time/mission span between visiting the Collector ship and Reaper IFF could easily be filled with more missions from the illusive man.

Or they could do it like you already said and add content for after beating the collectors.

I only hope they will give us these quests via voice-acting / cutscenes. I hated how the new missions (Zaeed and Normandy Crash Site) were given via emails.......thats nearly as bad as the pop-ups in Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I would love to see the old sections of the citadel come back or more missions in which you can see the outcomes of your decisions in ME1.

EDIT @ LZIM:

EDI is on your side / Jokers side after the ending you mentioned. She even gives shepard classified information about cerberus. ^^

i wish you could ohmost connect with your squad more....i men sure you did their side missions, and in alot of cases you saved their lives but, i mean it just feels empty still to me i mean in dragon age they talk to each other and you can talk to them any where...in ME2 they just follow like dogs and have some options of talk but i don't know mayb i'm just over thinking

the best "expansion" would be something that allows you to cement your affilliation or break with cerberus for ME 3 imo

I cant see any big expansions being plot related, atleast not overly so. It would cause complications in ME3 trying to cater for people who did and people who didnt buy the expansion. Much like bring down the sky has been more or less ignored in ME2.

not really it would just be a lead in story wise, you could still have the decisions made come up as dialogue during the beginning of me 3 to set the course of events for people who didnt have it similiar to how the import function in me1 to me 2 does not record who was made councilor on the 360 and the choice is made in dialogue

Well after "finding out" that Aria is the mercenary commando Wrex mentioned in ME1, I would totally love to see more missions with her.

She was an awesome character from the beginning, but that topped it. ^^

I don't recall this being mentioned, how do you find out it was her?

It's a theory with no real evidence beyond the fact that Aria mentions she makes a habit of pissing off krogan and she used to be a commando and mercenary. Aleena didn't really "****** off" Wrex at all. Even after their fight to the death they were still friends.

But, anyway, an expansion fits in post-suicide mission, obviously.

At least one DLC expansion won't have much to do with the main plot: the hammerhead. Whenever they get around to releasing it, it'll be with a mission/planet that you can use it on. Although hopefully they'll release a few planets.

There are plenty of side things to attend to. The Shadow Broker (might be too important but yeah), the remaining Ardat-Yakshi, more shenanigans from individual squadmates. They'll come up with something.

Re Aria: It was her "better luck next time" comment, same as the message Aleena sent Wrex.

Regarding future DLC: I reckon that anything larger than some more N7 missions will have to take place after ME2's end.Think that's one reason the game allows you to keep playing, unlike ME1. There's plenty of story threads left that they could pick up which aren't tied into the Reaper plotline, and so wouldn't have to affect ME3. That said, if they did an ME two-and-a-half which set the story up for ME3 I'd buy it.

You could make an expansion pack that played much more off of your Spectre status. You might not be going on one large epic quest, but perhaps make you feel more like a Spectre by putting out Council fires, several large but less than "epic" class quests. That would be cool. I like playing the Diplomat as well as the vanguard in fighting for them. I could see some fun dialogue expansions being done that way...

yummm I hope they do this

Shadow Broker. I gave him the info in ME 1, he said he would remember me. i expect him to return the favour.

Also, the hover tank will be added, so we will be going planet side for sure. Just side quests, new systems, maybe newer armour. It wouldnt make much sense to add stuff to do after the collectors are beat, b/c what good does extra weapons do when there arent big bad bosses to use them on?

It would be nice to have an expansion that gave you some opportunity to meet your ME1 LI some more, and continue where you "left off".

Also, anything that kinda bridges the gap between ME2 and 3 or some new N7 missions would be greatly appreciated by me at least...

EDIT: Oh yeah, it would definitely be nice with some continuation with this guy Balak from Bring down the sky... Image IPB

It will turn the romance system into a full fledged dating sim, allowing you to screw everyone from Ambassador Udina to the Krogan Shaman.
