I only saved Kaiden in ME1 when i found out his voice actor did my favorite character from Star Wars: Republic Commando(Scorch, the demented Demolitionist clone trooper) and because i really don't like Ashiley. And my Shep was saving himself for Tali.

So my one FemShep who saves Ash accidentally touches her ass because she's trying to get the helloutta there before the bomb goes off, that means she's gay?  Wtf?

Well, she technically is gay, but touching her fellow soldier on the rear, trying to get her outta there is not makes her gay.  Neighther did it make your Shepard gay.  Grow the f**k up dude.

Kaiden is a whiner, but Ashley is a bigot.

Seeing as how the game won't let me nuke both of them, I generally decide to nuke the bigot.

Ash's hatred for other intelligent non-human beings kills any chance of being a LI for me, so it simply comes down to which one is less annoying.  I'd rather deal with an occasionally  whining dandy than have an extremist gal pal.

didnt really like either ash or kaiden's characters, but i let kaiden die every time because he annoyed me more, was definitely a whiner. garrus complains about what happened to him too, but he's pissed and is gna do something about it, kaiden just sits there sniffling and blowing his nose.
