REALISTIC Female Shepard?

I've only ever played the Female Shepard once.
I like the voice actor, and I'm a girl...so I thought I'd play female characters more often.
But I find no matter how long I spend in character creation, they just don't look real.

The "default" male Shepard was designed to look like a real person.  He has wrinkles and a complex skin tone.
The generated faces are either too perfect or too whacky.

In both ME1 and ME2 - all your compainions have beautifully textured faces.
I just find it annoying to put in a "fake looking" Shepard amongst them.

I would love an expansion that would give us just one realistic "default" female face.

At this point, I don't care who they pick to model her after - I just want to play the female role with a character who doesn't look like a plastic barbie doll among real people.

Thoughts anyone?

I'd check this place out:

http://www.masseffect2faces.com/

They have a few decent ones up there that aren't just prettier versions of default FemShep.

Having never played a femshep I can't say too much. I'm male and I always tend to play male.

My best recommendation is get one of the too perfect ones, then mess with the sliders to make it more real by adding some sort of flaw or somesuch *shrug*

I will agree from videos and from looking at other female models in ME, the faces do seem fairly noticeably lacking compared to male in quality.

You probably aren't using the creator to it's full potential.

You can create a very realistic looking Female Shepard. I would give you the facecode so you could see or take a screenshot, but I play on xbox. Just try not to use the 'perfect complexion' face and the best skintone for maximizing imperfections to make the skin not look like plastic is the second or third palest. As for eyebrows, choose a less-than-perfect one and it will actually start to grow on you.

Hope this helps.

I found it faaaar easier to make a believable (and even attractive) female face than a non-Vander male one at least.

Males have a terrible selection of mouths and noses.

You make a good point, but if you work at the character creator you can make a very cool femshep. Not as realistic as Vandershep but still pretty good.

Making a pretty and 'realistic' FemShep is by far easier than making a handsome and 'realistic' non-Sheploo male. Males have awful jutting cheekbones to gaunt cheek ratios, beady eyes, and sad choices in noses and mouths. Why all male Shepard lips need to look like they're chapped within an inch of their life I will never understand.

I agree as far modeling the female Shepard after a real person. I think it's only fair if the male default Shepard was designed after the Dutch model, Mark Vanderloo, why not the female Shepard after someone real? It also really seems out of place that even in the sequel, your second in command, Miranda Lawson, is better looking than the default femShep -- not that it's a bad thing because Yvonne Strahovski is a pretty woman but the default femShep... is just decent looking compared to the better and well-designed male design of Shepard.

I always thought Jessica Biel would look good for a default femShep. :)

But then again, I'm content with the femSheps I've created. I took a lot of time and effort to create them the way I wanted so I actually think they look pretty hot.

I don't care for either default; the default male is more detailed than anyone around him, making him stand out of place. It's not difficult to make a fairly good Shepard either way, though one hint - stay clear of the make up. It looks goofy in wrong lighting conditions, and you'll run to those a lot.

I'm able to make a pretty realistic female or male Shepard. I play on xbox or I'd post a screen shot. The advise already given here is good. I spend a good amount of time in the character creator until I feel the shep is just right and if I think I missed something after I get to see him/her in game I scratch it and start over.

Cuz I'm that nuts. I think it depends on how much time you put into it.

I don't think what is there is bad it is just limited. There needs to be more variety for the different parts of the face for sure.

I'd even pay say 5 bucks for a DLC pack of more faces/parts of the face.

I've played the first mission over and over again with different faces trying to get the right one.
So I guess we are both nuts!
But It's such a long game - I don't want to hate my character every time she talks.

I've already visted some of the help sites people have posted here.  Most are for ME2.  The face generator did improve between ME1 and ME2.  I'm tracking all my actions in ME1 playthroughs right now so I can create varied  decision paths before ME3 comes out.  But the ME1 face designer is killing me...I should really play through as a girl more than once though.

I'm with you though - I'd pay for any DLC help for character faces.  In fact, I'd probably invest more than 5 bucks...

Please BioWare!  :crying:

I think I made a pretty realistic looking Femshep... I recently met a woman who looks almost just like my femshep.
Was pretty creepy. Specially since my femshep is a renegade queen b*tch of the galaxy.

MuisicAllie, one good thing is that you can choose to change the face of your imported character in ME2..

But anyways I have to agree with the others.. it's easier to make a credible/good looking female shepard than a male one which is not the default one..

As a tip.. I'll try to create again a FemShep face that I had in my lost saves of ME1 which was really good mediterranean beauty and very realistic in my opinion..

Once I'll find out how I made her, I'll post you a screenshot with ME1 sliders :P

As a girl, I find the makeup choices quite odd.  Black lipstick?
Even a "renegade" chick wouldn't do that to herself.

Thanks!

I've made passable people with the character generator.
But if you look at the male default shepard close up - he looks like a real person.
ME is like watching a movie....I want to believe the main character is real.
ME is extraordinary because we are all directors...directly changing the movie's path to where we want.

Anyway, that's why I posted this complaint.  I love everything ME...I just think this issue needs some of BioWare's attention.

Sidenote
Do you know of a place where ME1 "face guides" are archived?
The "face" site is for ME2 only.

I remember some time ago that I've stepped into a "face" site for ME1, but can't remember right now.. I'll look into it, unless someone remembers it and anticipates me :>

Anyways, I think I've got close to what I did in the past, here are some screenshots, if you like her, I'll send you the screens of the slides to make her :)

Edit: About experiencing like a movie, I totally agree with you.. that's the thing that I love the most of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2!

Are you aware that after you import your char from ME1 you can edit her face?  I did this for my me1 import and I was able to make it better.  The better graphics in the ME2 creator really help you flesh things out.

Yay for crazy hard core nut balls! ^_^

Check out this thread archived on the old forums:  meforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html

It can give you some ideas on where to start using a celebrity likeness then you can "customize" and "tweak" the look to your preference.

I usually start with the Jennifer Garner likness <3  and make a few  tweaks.

Thanks for the screenshots!  She looks like a solider...not a model.  And her expression isn't "super evil" or "goofy happy".  Please send the slider information when you have a chance!

Then I can start another ME1 playthrough.  You know you've played ME1 too much when you've memorized all the sidequests.  Now if I could just memorize where all the minerals are...

Thanks for your help!

I have the exact opposite experience. I can make female Shepard look very real and beautiful. I can't for the life of me make a male Shepard that looks any other than a gormless tool.

Jennifer Garner has unique face structure.  In person, I don't think she looks odd.  But in ME - if you hadn't of said her name....I wouldn't have connected the two.
The lips and cheeks look forced on BioWare's framework.  At first glance....she seems malnourished, with some lip enhancements.  And she doesn't look like a soldier.

As I've said before, when I play ME - I want to believe that my Shepard could kick "alien butt".
The male default Shepard makes me believe that.
I also believe there are women out there who are both beautiful and scary.  I'm not one, but I know a few.
I just wish BioWare had awknowledged that fact as well...

For the minerals there's a section on Mass Effect Wiki :P I'll PM the direct link to you along with the sliders pictures :)

Happy to help! Atleast I can make now another playthrough with my old "Simona Shepard" ^^

Edit: If anyone else wants the sliders images for my FemShep, just PM me!

While i agree that in mass effect 1 the skin textures were less the satisfactory at least for female characters, i think they did wonders with the skin in mass effect 2. I am pleased with my characters at least.

What i miss the most is more hair styles for women, cause they all end up looking the same since there is only one hairstyle i think is decent.

Miranda puts everyone to shame though, so one default character with her level of detail wouldn't hurt.

Hmm my links didn't work
