I am running a Quad Core 6700, evga 790i ultra, 4GB DDR3 1800 RAM, GTX285 OC, 2560x1600 on Gateway XD3000, Windows 7 Pro 64, and the game freezes, stops constantly, I have tried every setting from 800x600 windowed mode, with minimum detail and no AA, to 2560x1600 Fullscreen, 8x AA, and Max Detail, It doesnt matter what I do, Nothing Lets the game run correctly. It pauses, I have to hit "ctrl + alt + del" click cancel, then go back to the game, This is getting kind of old. I was using windows vista 64, but i was getting the same issues, so I installed windows 7, clean install, all new drivers from internet, The problem didnt go away. Please advise.
p.s.
I tried to search for "Game Freeze" and the search feature in this website wasnt working for me, I know somewhere there has to be other folks with my issue. Sorry for creating the duplicate post.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried everything you have too. I have a monster system, so you aren't alone. If you get an answer, please let me know. I will do the same.

just here to tell you I am experiencing this too.
nothing helped, core affinity change might help but performance drop is too severe for me as it would make any sense.
I will try running the game in window mode now, see if it helps.

you might try affinity before writing it off mufuti... if it doesn't help it will revert on restarting the game and how is "slower" worse than "frozen" exactly?

Make sure you are running the updated version of Direct X. and also make sure to run the install as well from the DVD (if you have the physical copy) as it can have different versions of the same files that are required.

Jiron, what process or application do you mean, the game itself or something else in the list?

I did try the core affinity fix but the framerate was low and I cant enjoy the game like this :-(
The freezing is majorly annoying but at least I can enjoy the game in the 45 min between.

Try setting your overclocked video card to the manufacturer's standard clocking specs. If that cures your freeze problem, start advancing the clock rates in 20% increments until it starts freezing again and then back off one increment. This worked for me on other high-end games.

the game itself... I've been collecting data since day one on the slow downs and quite a few of them seem to be related to the processor not releasing threads properly which results in massive slowdown and multi-minute load times on machines with good system specs

I've got this problem as well, right after the landsmeet and I execute Loghain, it just start slowing down. then comletely freezes once I choose Alistair as king. I can't seem to get past it. Even setting processor affinity to a single processor has not worked.

can we get your specs AxilomX? Also, do you have the toolset installed or any alternative mods other than the DLC that came with the game?

I'm running of an AMD Athlon II X2 240 with 4GB of RAM and an HD4670 running Windows 7 32bit. Everything is fine until I get to that one section of the game. closing and reloading hasn't worked either. I've got the DVD version of the game, so I'm going to try and download the stream version if it will help. I'll keep you posted if I find anything that works.

It's a shame there isn't a beheading scene with a gullotine and everything. Would be amusing to see that in slow mo.

And here I thought it was me. I had carbonite running and pausing it helped quite a bit but I still have a memory leak issue it seems. But at least I can play for a few hours before it gets unbareable...starting to wish I purchased the 360 version instead...

I just read somone suggest ensuring that Microsoft .Net was running and that might help with the leak, I'm about to try the new 4.0 beta now, I'll update everyone if it works.

It doesn't work, I've tried it yesturday with Net Framework 4.0 beta 2.
Also i've tried everything else - 1 core on, XP/admin mode, windowed mode, different video drivers, sound on/off, different resolutions and graphic details etc, etc.
There is something wrong with the code of this game.
Well they are using theirs own engine....
Pity that there was no demo version, looks like no one in Bioware noticed that problem before realising the game. :/

It is not a hardware problem. How can it be, if all other new games on my computer works fine, including FPS games like Call of Juarez II, or other Rpg's like Risen.
Dragon Age runs alright only until memory ends - it takes 1.8 GB of my total 2GB memory and 100% of my processor power, then loading times increases and FPS drops from 30 to 12-15.
Maybe it is an issue with having DDR2 system memory and DDR3 video card memory?
My specs:
Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
AMD Athlon x2 +4000 (2.11Mhz)
2 GB Hyper-X Kingston DDR2 800Mhz
Asus Ati HD4850 1 GB DDR3
Regards,

Or it worked fine on the build(s) they used for testing the game. The issues that keep repeating on these forums are not affecting everyone. I do not have the slow downs or freezing, or delayed loading screens. Oddly enough people with similar builds are getting drastically different results.
Not that I'm saying people are imagining their issues, but if it were a purely code driven issue it would effect everyone.
Besides, the demo may have worked fine and the final release may have still not worked correctly with your build.

I also have the 4670 card, the 1GB version and I was having issues with the game freezing ONLY when I tried entering Lonthing Bar. I updated to the latest drivers and all has been well. No freezes otherwise. Core 2 Quad, Vista64. Other than that one particular spot, the game runs really nice. If you're running the card overclocked, try turning that off.
I'll repeat what I've been saying elsewhere. My loading times went from around 5-10 seconds per area to around 2 seconds after I went to the latest drivers. I was only a month or so outdated, so I have no idea how this is, unless the drivers had some serious issues.

All freezing I have experienced I discovered was related to custom created content.
I created some armor and scripted it into the game using the custom created item tutorial found here: http://social.biowar.../5339/blog/576/
I would keep the module "checked" in and use it until I started "freezing". I save often so I would alt+f4 or close using task manager and then "uncheck" the module and force load the save without it. Get past where I was freezing, save game and then exit to reload with the custom module. Rinse and repeat where ever it freezes... which typically tends to happen at a scripted dialogued scene immediately after combat.
It seems that the campaign is not playing nice with custom created content.
