The toolset can also cause unexplained behaviors that look like bugs. You might try disabling the chest AxilomX

Seem's your a victim of the memory leak issue.

Stop spreading that garbage Selvec.  People keep throwing that around to sound smarter, but clearly they have no idea what a memory leak is.  I've it explained it in great detail here and here.  The people who say something to the contrary come on here and voice their own opinions with no data to back up anything. They heard it in another post they read (the poster who'd also done no research before posting.) I've been compiling data on this since I initially suggested affinity (almost 2 weeks ago now) and the fact that it can be "worked around" means it something hardware related (it might be how the game tells the processor to run it, it might not).  You can't work around a memory leak. End of story.

Ok, I'm starting to think this is due to the copy of my game. I just finished trying it on two other computers and have had the same results in the same area, i'm using the save game from my main system. Here are the specs of the two other systems.

Athlon X2 4000 - 2.1Ghz

2GB DDR2 667mhz

Geforce 8600GTS 512MB

Vista 32bit

Run at Medium quality

CD 2350 - 1.86Ghz (Laptop)

2GB

Radeon Mobility 2400

WinXP SP3

Run at Medium Quality

Everything works fine until the same section of the game, right after I choose who i want to rule. I'd say it's a resource leak at this point.

you may have a corrupted save game, we've recently discovered that toolset and DLC bugs can "infect" the save game and cause a variety of issues even after the initial cause of the glitch (eg. toolset files) have been corrected... try reverting to a much earlier save if possible.

Thanks, I'll try it from the beginning of Denerim.

I'm having very similar issue that Aerilaya mentioned. My game runs fine for the most part until i get to some cutscenes (all have been right after combat). My cpu load goes up to 100% after a few seconds and the game basically locks up on me. I've tried waiting it out a few times and I've managed to get past a cut-scene or two after maybe 10-20 mins at times, but most of the time i have to close out the game and restart.Restarting doesn't fix the problem either. I usually have close out and restart the game a few times and hope it'll get past the cutscene. Funny thing is, the game was perfectly fine until a few days ago and Ive been playing this game for a few weeks now with custom items I made from the toolset. It all started after installing one of those custom mods floating around here. I installed 2 the same day, the one that allows custom item creation from camp and the other lets you dual wield 2haned wpns. Anyways, I thought I'd uninstall them hoping it would fix the problem, but that didnt work. So I bascially uninstalled everything and reinstalled a fresh copy (game (DvD) + 1.01a patch, toolset, character creator, and all DLC besides Return to Ostagar). You'd think that would have solved this issue since i was able to play flawlessly for a few weeks, but it didnt work. I get the freeze nearly every cut-scene that is triggered after combat. I've been searching around this forums and other places, but can't seem to find a fix for this or a clear cause (most of what I've read seems to be speculation).

I play on a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp Windows XP x64 pro sp3

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2, 4gb ram, Nvidia geforce 8600M GT 512mb ram

I've already tried the affinity method, playing w/out any custom items or mods, I have no viruses, firewall/anti-virus are all setup properly, reinstalled graphics drivers/directx, and all my system is as updated as can be.

Id really appreciate if anyone has a solution to this problem or some real info that would help me to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

First, machine specs:

Processor: AMD Athalon 64 X2 6400+

RAM: 4GB

Video Card(s): 2 cross-fired ATI Radeon HD3870 512MB (factory overclocked)

Motherboard: ASUS, Cross-fire ready

I had an issue when I first bought the game where it would cause my computer to auto-restart during random points in my character's origin story. I did some computer maintainance (freed up hard disk space, defraged, optimized, did a registry repair) and it started playing fine throughout the origin story. Then, after I went to ostagar for the first time and entered the forest it would start freezing, shutting off my monitor, and looping the sound near the beginning.

Then, I rolled back my CCC driver from 9.11 to 9.7 and re-installed. This time it went past that point, but later in the forest the sound stopped and it turned off my monitor and I had to hard-reboot. So I tried the afinity thing and loading it from a save-game before that last point. The computer then started doing the freeze thing right after it loaded up the save game. I reset the afinity and it's still freezing at that save point.

I've never had trouble with ANY other game....any suggestions? From the forums I'm seeing I think it may have something to do with the ATI HD3870, because others are having the same problem, but I could be wrong.

I've got a similar issue. It doesn't freeze predictably, but when it does, I must cntr alt del to get out, and then maximize the program again. Very odd.

So i reinstalled graphics, audio, directx, reinstalled the game, and even tried the little "tricks" to work around the issue that some people mentioned would help. My game still locks up at cut scenes activated after combat consistently. Is there really no solution to this problem? Is bioware aware of this and working on it? It seems a great deal of people are having same/similar issues. I really hope there is way to fix this. I would like to enjoy the final few cut scenes of the game! xD

I have been having freezing problems as well. However, in my case, I think I have narrowed it down to something specific. It seems to happen whenever I press the tilde key (`/~). I looked through the key mappings, and I did not see that key being mapped anywhere, so I tried setting that key to a function. But even trying to use it in the key map dialog causes the game to freeze. This happens whether in game or just from the starting menu Option menus.

It is very easy to hit that key trying to reach for ESC, TAB, or 1 key (to use the associated quickslot),  so I am wondering if anyone else has found this to be true.

I have a similar issue to what some of you are describing, but it's only happening to me at one place--the final battle (well, I think it will be the final battle). The cutscene plays, showing the army that I've raised marching off to Denerim and showing the dragon swooping around, and then the screen freezes and my CPU load goes to 100%. I tried waiting for it to load, but I can wait for 20 minutes and nothing will happen. I have to ctrl alt del to shut the game down. I don't have any mods or alterations to the game, except the patch 1.01b (which I intalled while trying to work around this freeze, but it still happens at the same spot). I haven't had problems at any other points in the game, but it always freezes up at this point close to the end. It's very frustrating not to be able to finish the game. Any suggestions?

Update: I reinstalled everything and it seems to be working now.

I'm having a similar problem. Game "Pauses" at first tutorial box, regardless of starting character. No key will "un-pause." Game is registered. I've checked posted fixes, noe seem to work. Config:

Intel I7 950

6GB RAM

Win 7 Home Premium.

EVGA Nvidia 8800GTX.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. This problem didn't start occurring until a few days ago. 'twould be nice to have a fix. It tends to happen after I notice small graphic glitches, then suddenly the screen will flash and freeze. The ctrl-alt-delete then cancel will resume the game, it's just annoying that it happens at all

UPDATE: Thank you whoever posted about Downloadable Content. I disabled all the DLC that I had in the opening screen and I was able to get right through this section without a hiccup. Now all I have to do is start turning The DLC on one by one and keep my fingers crossed!

I cannot get out of fade once I fight the demon. The cut-scenes with Mouse just get slower and slower and then freezes (I try skipping over with escape but no luck). Funny thing is that I just swapped over to an ATI Radeon 5870 so I put my NVidia 280 back in and reloaded drivers, etc. Froze in same place so NOT related to graphics card!

I am also having freezing problems with my game. I got the Dragon age origins/awaking pack complete with all expansions from steam. The game was running completely fine until I got to the sloth demon fade quest, in the circle of Magi. For some reason it started consistantly freezing after I would finish talking to the guy who gives you the mouse transform power. Like some people suggested, I disable the DLC, but now it is just freezing when I try to load my last save. I dont know what to do except start the whole game over!!
