They got rid of a good chunk of the RPG elements. They got rid of the stuff that I liked about ME1. I like the inventory system and the armor set up. I liked the fact that I could change out how my party looked, that I can customize them as I wish. It also made sense.
It absolutely MAKES NO SENSE for Garrus to be running around in damaged armor on missions. It makes absolutely no sense for Jack running around half naked in a firefight. NO BLOODY SENSE WHATSOEVER!
Get rid of the I-X aspects I am all for, but for godsakes let us at least armor up our squad.
ok what is better ~Mass Effect 1~ or ~Mass Effect 2~?

IMO. Story-wise, both are mediocre cliched flicks.
But ME2's delivery of the story is better, smoother and more "emotionally engaging".
ME1's highpoint is Sovereign's small dialog, Garrus and Liara.

Mass Effect 2. Far more cinematic camera work and has a fantastic score. These are very powerful ways of making the gamer feel encapsulated in the story. I was blown away by how epic they made the whole thing! More character and story depth. Also no more wasting time in the mako finding a crate in the middle of nowhere which probably just has a gun that's not even better than the spectre gear you actually get easier access to.

Ok... So as long as the topic is on the story of mass effect, I have a few questions my self. I am considering just buying the game off of steam right now, however I am not sure if I need to play through my copy of ME1 first. The reason being that I dont want that bug creature to be dead in the second game, nor Wrex. But as I understand it, if I start with a new player, all choices will be reset to some "default" if dont upload a save. Is this true? Is starting with a pre-save file really that special? Or would it be about the same as starting fresh?

well which and why? I hope people pick part 2 cuz I have high hopes for it. I bought the collector's edition but haven't played it yet cuz I got other games to play before I play it like Dragon Age, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, than last Mass effect 2.
ME1 is better. I love the crew and relationship interactions better on ME2, but for playability, I'd pick ME1. ME2 gets me too pissed off during the battles and I feel like they never end.

How could I possibly find a trite, overly-simplified, poorly written, predictable piece of crap like ME2 to be better than the original game. Average game with a horribly written story that deserves absolutely zero acknowledgement as decent let alone any praise in comparison to its predecessor.

I've just started playing ME1 again and it seems so clunky in comparison to ME2
IMO ME2 is BioWare's best game yet
I made a poll here:

The majority says ME2

ME2 is a shadow of ME1, when im playing ME2 it seems like im playing a game by levels with no transition whatsoever, its boring in all aspects.

What annoyed me most about me1 on pc was that the loading times crippled the experience. Otherwise a very good game with varied locales even though the side quests and exploration could get abit tidious. But then again it felt like you were doing something unlinke the scanning in ME2 which is just a timesink.
ME2 flows much better and loading times ae fewer and shorter then in me1 the updated graphics puts me1 to shame. Combat is better and the tactic part of combat has been muched improved.
I'd suggest playing the first then the second if you haven't already. Improves the me2 experience alot.

Mass Effect 2 is more fun to play but Mass Effect 1's storyline is more memorable.
Overall, Mass Effect 2.

for me, ME1.
leveling was a journey, I had to think about which skills to choose, got all kinds of awesome upgrades, i got more than 1-2 new weapons along the way, i wasnt horribly sick of the mako yet...
ME2 has better combat, but really thats it, without the journey, better combat is more or less moot.

I think most of the changes they made in Mass Effect 2 were for the better.
I hope they make some slight alterations, add a bit more RPG content in it, and just go with Mass Effect 2 template with Mass Effect 3.
really Mass Effect 2's story is much more character driven than the previous one.
I can see Mass Effect 3 being less character-centric, and more about making alliances.
This way i see them bringing as many of the previous cast onboard (and not stuck in NPC land) and allowing there to be a coherent continuity.
"sorry Shepherd, we had a great thing, and i know Harbinger is coming but i gotta do something"

Going back to ME1 it seems clunky, unrefined. Combat is just putting bullets into your enemies. But still, some parts of ME1 are better, like the exploration aspect, especially the Citadel is a wide open area where you can explore for some time.
For me ME2 is better because it's much more immersive and the characters are in my eyes better drawn.
