Specifically, does the game create a save when the final mission is completed and everything after means nothing, or does it update the final save each time you save afterwards?
For instance, I've completed the final mission at level 29. If I level up to 30 because of an anomaly or something, will my transfer count as level 30 or level 29?
I liked the game, but in my opinion it doesn't warrant another complete play through and I'd like to transfer in a level 30 for the bonuses I'm sure there will be next time around.
Information would be great, and I mean from staff, not other forum members.
Can anyone help?
How do the saves work for ME3?

Considering you start ME2 as a level 1 character, after importing from ME1, I assume you'll be level 1 in ME3.

That's not what I meant.

thats not true anyway, if you import a lvl 50 you start at lvl 3 and a lvl 60 starts at lvl 5 ^^
To answer the question the NG+ import for ME 2 is able to use both the final save and any saves you make post game, so ME 3 should allow you to use the post game saves also as it will likely be based on the same import system just like the ME 1 to ME 2 import uses the same save that the ME 1 NG+ import used

The ME2 import from ME1 would only take the save created at the completion of the story. I'm concerned ME3 will do the same.
Has there been confirmation otherwise?

Well yeah you need to complete the game to be able to import a character. Why should that change. Whats the point of importing a character that hasn't been through the previous game?

hahaha.... this thread is hilarious....
i dont know how the import feature will work in ME3, but i think that if you continue playing and make saves, they will be imported. Bioware has to account for dlc, after all.

Ok i re read your post and yes unless they change it it will work the same way. The game creates a special file that contains info about your character and what choices he made when the game is completed. The import feature does not get its information from actual save games.
If it got it from the actual save game it would mess things up when trying decide which choices were made in what playthrough when playing same character second or third or whatever time.

I'd guess anything you can make a ME2 import save from is what ME3 will look for.I had 3 saves from my first play thru after the end map.I Could do ME2 import from any of them. And they flat say they are leaving the game open so you can go finish relationships,do missions and dlc.
Oh...And Chill? Its possible to import diffrent playthrough shep versions.I got two diffrent playthroughs on one,a 50 and a 58.Diffrent choices.Everything got factored in correctly.

I know it's possible to do multiple playthroughs with same character.
What he wants to do is seems, is play through the game to the end. And then if he gets to level 27, he wants the ability to start a new game with that character and only play it till he gets to level 30 and then export that character to mass effect 3 without completing the game.
That wont work cause the import save is made only on completing game.

That's not what I want either.
I beat the game at level 29. The game is free roam at that point. If I level up again during the free roaming, will it count, or does it only take the save made when you complete the story?
