*Wall of text warning!*
With all the new features to the Normady in ME2, it still feels dull. I suggest more character interaction, not between them and Shepard, but between each other.
I find it odd that every character stays in their living area doing the same thing day in and day out. In Grunt's case especially, he just stands there absolutly motionless. Legion does the same, but he could be doing a hundred different things in that Geth mind of his, what excuse does Grunt have?

Suggestion 1:
Introduce a little movement around the ship for the characters. Give them schedules, don't expect them to save all life in the galaxy without food or rest. Have the characters aboard the ship go for food in the mess hall sometime.
Sometimes the characters might get bored and have a chat with someone else.
  • Maybe Jack might want to go look at the Normandy's guns, which would result in a discussion with Garrus about how much damage they would cause. Maybe Shepard can walk in on this to find Garrus finds Jack's attitude annoying and it's up to the commander to maintain the peace.
  • Or maybe Grunt goes to look at the galactic map, resulting in EDI telling him he shouldn't be up there. Could result in a comedic arguement between krogran and AI, similar to one in ME1 ("Stupid machine!")
Suggestion 2:
The characters aboard the Normandy could have their own romantic interests. Why should Shepard be the only one?
  • Maybe Joker gets a bit jealous of Shepard's "partner". He might decide to go have a chat with either the commander's interest or Shepard themselves. And it'll be up to the player to make keep the peace and make sure nobody walks away with a new grudge.
  • It could be possible for Shepard to walk in on some of the characters in one of their 'private moments' (not necesarily when they're getting it on) and some unique dialogue would occur.
Things like these would make the Normandy much more interesting to explore in the downtime between missions. Bioware developers stated in the previews of ME2 that they wanted more content aboard the Normandy, making the characters feel more like living creatures rather then placeholders should've been among the first steps to achieve that.

Feedback? Critizism? Flame? Go for it.

good idea . things like you go talk to one crew member and you see empty room and there are choices oh my god where da hell is s/he etc . lol

and then you hear a voice of EDI's saying grunt is at the galaxy map playing with it .

there are many many almost infinite options that i could say . i think any ideas like yours are welcome here.

As long as you have the option of not knowing anything about it and there are no cut-scenes that you can't skip after the first playthrough, then I'm all for it. I just finished number 5 and I find myself skipping almost every line of dialogue to get to some action now.

Ya, any kind of movement would make it feel so much more alive and interesting. Certain characters like Thane and Samara might stay in their room most of the time, except when they come out to eat with the crew. Others you might see chatting with each other, moving around the ship and checking things out. Maybe you go down to see Miranda and on the way you notice Garrus talking to Dr. Chakwas about his injuries. Just something simple, like the schedule found in Oblivion and Fallout 3.

More interaction between the crew would be awesome, both on and off the Normandy. And the dialogue between Shepard and the crew runs out pretty quickly, too.

And I also agree with what you're saying about other romantic interests... Tali/ Kal'Reegar would be cute ;)

a little bit of inter-party banter would go a long way. I enjoyed returning to the ebon hawk in KotOR 2 for that reason.

Remember that doing that would result in a whole bunch of new permutations of endings for ME2 which has to be imported to ME3. That would be a whole crazy bunch of work.

Unless these conversations don't impact the story.

Id like to see my squad actually interact with each other... While i appreciate that they are in their own set quarters and it makes it easy to find them, it'd be nice if they had loyalty to each other as well

I feel the worst for Jack... sits down on the Engineering sub-deck staring at her gun, never talking to anyone... sad.

Even if the crew occasionally wandered the ship I would be happy (well, even more happy than I am now.) Having you squad and other significant characters sit in one place for the duration works for gameplay but after a while the illusion starts to show and the game behind the story becomes a little more apparent.

How about being able to give Anderson a tour of the new Normandy and introduce the new crew, when you visit the Citadel. Everytime you visit the Citadel a new section of the Normandy would be able to be toured and some interaction with the main crew members. Could of been a bonus for after finishing the main mission.

As an example...

First time on the Citadel and your talking to Anderson:

Shepard - I would be happy to give you a tour of the new Normany.

Anderson -  If you succed with your mission and come back alive. I would be happy to take the tour and meet your crew. But for right now, focus on the mission.

^_^

Good points made, the crew veneer does wear thin quite quickly. Pity, as some more spice would make the ship feel more alive. I guess the challenge lies in programming all of that into reasonable size, also time constraints I guess.

Nice idea though

Yeah, I was thinking this myself. Like the TM unit from Kotor 2, he was moving around the ship to repair things and you could even ask him to stop. And more options to allow for relationships between team mates, friendly or otherwise.

It would be a nice addition and I support it.

Nice Idea!

I'm guessing they'd do something like: Every time you enter the normandy people have a certain chance of either being at their usual haunt, eating, sleeping, looking around an area of the ship or just talking to another crew member. If two crew end up in the same place they have one or two unique conversations for the situation and character combo.

Solid ideas. Really I just want the Normandy to be a sitcom I watch every week. There's has to be a lot of down time while flying around the galaxy.

This is a good idea. Bioware really consider this. Active interactive NPCs. that would be cool.. Like the cook ****ing at someones comment about how bad his cooking is.. He comes over and slams his fist on the table near the dude.. hehehe..

Sometimes seeing the Key npcs eating or walking and chatting.. Sometimes hearing various statements or questions. Maybe a fight or two between crew members if your negotiation abilities sucks hehehe.

Even have joker peeshoot at the hologram image of EDI... you know stuff like that.

I totally agree with all - crew interactions would be awesome, fun and add some zest to "in between mission" downtime. If it doesn't affect the storyline, no harm, no foul, eh..... I mean what are the restrooms for anyway? Or, how about a holodeck/area. That would lead to some cool dialect and downtime action. Who wouldn't wanna wrestle with Garrus (reach versus flexibility!) in a holo gym? Or, spend some time with Thane on a desert holo??? Yeah,I would, I'm just saying........

Great ideas here - And I have another suggestion: Maybe have non-important crew members have schedules acoording to your actual computer clock, i.e. they all eat at 19.30, are in their bunks at 22.30... Maybe even have them go to the toilet at random moments xD
Gothic and Risen (I think the Bethesda games too) had something similar, except they went according to in-game time, which actually counted (sunrises etc)

Edit: I know many people offered this idea, my contribution was the system clock :wizard:

Well one thing I don't want is my team members to move around. It's already a pain going around to talk to all of them without me having to find Jacob in Engineering instead of his usual spot. However all the other crew members could move around. I have a simple suggestion.

Give the Normanday 5-6 different random configurations. Have all the crew members be in different spots. You know the two people always in the crew quarters chatting? Well sometimes they are in the mess hall, while the 2 mess hall guys that are always giving the cook grief are hanging with Garrus in the gun station. Sometimes the two engineers can be in the crew quarters taking a break. They could still have all the scripted banter like they do now, just a little more mixed in with new locations.

They'd have to include some sort of on-screen map. Otherwise it could be rather annoying having to play hide and seek with your crew when you actually want/need to talk to them.

Clock/day cycles is a good idea. being able to sit in my chair, or lay on the bed would be great! Random configs - would solve the "where the hell are they now", while still providing some random interactions. Really good ideas, should be listed on BioWare's Social site as additional poll question(s)...............

I'm not expecting from Bioware some kind of "Spaceship Sim", but some movement on board would be nice.

Now most of locations look like mockups. Pretty mockups, but still...

It would look great - team members visiting Joker and looking at FTL drive effects (like kaidan in first ME intro) in mornings, sitting and playing in Observation room in evenings, sleeping in quarters at night. Just like characters in bioware aurora engine based game "Witcher" - sun rises, they walk to their jobs, they work at midday, walk to home (or tavern) at evening.
