Basically, I am asking for some steps on how to solve this puzzle that seems to constantly bug out for me.

So you know, I consider where the flame starts as "start" and the first piece is A1, the piece below it A2, etc. A through E, left to right, 1 to 5, top to bottom.

Now what I mean by bugging out is that A1, B1, C1, and C2 will have flame jumping on them, despite the arrows pointing the completely wrong ways, while D4 has fire jumping to E4, yet no matter how I move the pieces I never get the option to move D4 down to D5, or to E5, since apparently the game allows diagonal and cross board movements without the hole being next to the piece you would like to move. In fact I can have the hole on E1, and can move a piece from C3 to it.

Just would like some steps on how to solve it, I got a quicksave on the spot just after the dialog when it is time to solve the puzzle. I do not want to resort to trying to kill the kittie and having to deal with it possessing the girl.
