I have win 7 64bit (pro)

Purchased from Direct2Drive (download) Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 (deluxe)

The installation reports that it has been cancelled after I accept the eula but before giving me a chance to type in my activation key.  No combination of compatibliity mode (or normal mode) or run as administror changes the outcome.  I have an external steelseries usb sound with my siberia 2 headphones.  I tried with it installed and without it (onboard sound)

Here is my system configuration but I think the main points are Windows 7 64 bit and purchased from direct2drive.

core2 duo 6400
3gig ram
nvidia 8800gt
gigabyte 965p-ds3 motherboard
windows 7 64 bit pro
steelseries usb sound (also tried with only onboard sound--no help there )

directx 11

thanks

I figured out the problem.

I did not use the Direct2Drive's download manger or their advanced "Comrade" to download the game. I used my own download manager which resulted in a simple zip file.

*****!!!!!***** THE BUILT IN EXTRACTION UTILITY IN WINDOWS 7 (64BIT) CAUSES THE INSTALLER TO CANCEL AFTER THE EULA *****!!!!!*****

So here are the only way I could get it to work from direct 2 drive using windows 7 64bit.

1) Download the game using the direct2drive download manager (didn't try comrade, but it probably works fine).

2) Don't install it using the play function in download manager.

3) Go to the folder where you had it download and install it in admin mode (no comparability modes selected)

OR

1) download using your own download manager or firefox

2) Unzip it using 7-zip NOT the built in windows extractor

3)Go to the folder where you had it extracted and install it in admin mode (no comparability modes selected)

I hope this helps someone else that runs into this problem.

Again do not use the built in windows 7 (64bit) extraction utility to unzip the Direct2Drive file.
