Cryo is better against common Collectors, squadmates remove their defenses and freeze (enemies also take 2x the damage when frozen) them. That is usually better than extra damage against barrier and health. Slam is very good bonus power - it enables Warp explosions and does not interfere with Charge - check out this awesome video by m14567.
i love cryo, anytime i can, i max out either my cryo blast or my cryo ammo (i completed the game with all classes on insanity) plus im using the avalanche very often(very underrated weapon in my opinion).
I dont know weather its a bug or not, but i often see enemies running towards me while they should be already frozen. Also sometimes by the time my squadmates freeze an enemy for me i almost killed everyone, damn Vanguard is too fast...

That might just be the best insanity Vanguard Collector run vid I've seen. I love Slam (though i'd usually go Crippling instead of Heavy) on my Vanguard; it is awesome for quick Warpbombs, but he also used it greatly to stun Harby while switching weapons. I never tried that before. Fast, fluid, Slam, and Claymore, all the Vanguard goodness.

Personally, I prefer Heavy (I like that part, it has weight) Slam because I take Destroyer and for the extra lift time it gives, if you prefer Champion then Crippling probably is better which I'm guessing will increase the lift time with +duration bonus.

Here's a different take on the Tubes (Collector Base 1st part).

BTW, I'm not crazy about the Mattock as most people are. I lose ammo too quickly, and I prefer automatic to precision fire.
Also, my Charge for some reason isn't working properly. Last night, I was doing Mordin's loyalty mission, and this krogan was RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, and yet, my Shepard said, "Can't get a lock." WHAT?!?! He's right in front of you! There are no obstacles in your way!

Would Slam be a viable choice for a Vanguard's bonus power?...
Yes. Exhibit A:
And it instakills Husks. And it has an incredibly fast cooldown with Champion and the biotic cooldown upgrade, keeping Charge available. And it's a stagger against protected enemies (see OniGannon's Infiltrator thread for other examples of how a fast cooldown stagger, like Slam and Neural Shock, can be used).
During my own Vanguard run, I also had so much fun Crippling Slam-ing the last remaining enemy of a battle over and over again to death for the lulz

Looks like Slam is being used to set up Warp detonations for the most part. That's pretty nifty. I should keep that in mind whenever I go on missions with Sere Krios.
I also use it in this video slightly differently

I played my first two play-throughs as a Sentinel because I absolutely suck at shooters and I couldn't survive without the shields.
I started reading this thread and all the passion you folks displayed got me excited about playing a Vanguard.
Since you made it sound like so much fun, and my lack of aiming skills wouldn't be such a detriment becasue the bad guys are right there, I tried it on Veteran.
Honestly it was the most fun combat I've ever played. There is nothing better then spending an entire battle in the red, charging from bad guy to bad guy.
I finished reading all hundred plus pages of this thread so I figured I'd give it a go on insanity. I'm just finishing up the first set of recruitmen missions and can't believe how fun it is. Timing is a little more crucial on insanity but I'm pleased that most of my deaths are coming from charge issues -- winding up on the wrong side of cover, or not being able to get a lock or diving behind cover and pressing the space bar only to be taken out of cover because the computer put me in cover or the opposite, expecting the computer to make me duck and not ducking.
I'm also dying a bit because I'll charge into situations I know that I shouldn't because it's such darn fun.
Currently I'm using the Evi.
I've got 1 point in stasis which I'm finding very useful. I can stasis the YMIR mech and charge around and take out other annoying things first. As and added bonus things fall over when the stasis runs out which is a perfect time to charge as they are helpless for a little longer.
My favourite companion is Kasumi with a maxed out flash grenade.
I can charge in to a group of 5, take out 2 (3 if I'm lucky) have the flash grenade go off giving me time to reload and walk up and take out one or two more which is just about enought time for my charge to re-charge and finish off the last one (or two or if I miss die and reload
I can't wait for my next level so I can max out champion and get that next charge a bit faster.
I'm looking forward to getting the Scimitar which sounds much more forgiving of my bad aim.
Best of all I get to tease my eldest son that his combats take so long because his soldier hides behind cover and uses a sniper rifle.
Again thank you so much for turning me on to the Vanguard. You've made the game seem new again and I've had tons of fun!!!

Nice work; interesting stuff about squadmate powers, didn't know that but now you're mentioning it, it makes sense. I really hate it when squad powers are delayed (not just warpbombs) - sometimes you die in critical situations because of that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this basically means it's best to positions squadies somewhere safe and out of sight to make the most of their powers, right?

You're spot on, although I'll throw in the disclaimer that it's only really noticible for when you're trying to squeeze in powers in rapid succession like is necessary for doing slam initiated warp bombs. I know in another thread someone was complaining about squadmate powers being unreliable and the whole time I was arguing that I had never experienced those problems. So I didn't really notice it until I was placed in situation where I needed squad mate powers that SECOND as opposed to how I normally play where a small delay isn't really going to be a major problem.
[edit here] Part 5 is now up as well, split into two parts. low level vanguard tutorial vol. 5 part 1 and low level

Nice work on the videos, especially given the "undocumented features" you ran into on the last set.
As for trying to set up a warp explosion with slam and either Miranda/Thane are in your line of sight, I check to see what they are doing first. If they are reloading or hurdling cover, they aren't gonna get it off in time. If they are firing you should be fine, if they are behind cover, I hit both powers at the same time. It is not 100% reliable but once you get to level 4 slam, it is pretty close. But placing squadmates out of your LOS is the surest way.

Gosh I hate that Preatorian! Brings back bad memories of a scared little boy running circles around that ugly thing.
I charged it out of frustration once - thought I would be dead for sure but
