So far, I really don't know about it. I love its look and sound, and the damage it does is awesome. One shotting basic enemies is a great asset. However, I'm struggling with the reload trick, and I'm not a very accurate shot. I died on the mission quite a few times because I was busy reloading. I'm going to stick with it for now and hopefully I'll improve.
However if I don't, I think I'm going to use the Scimitar. I used that on Samara's mission, and I liked it. It was the most forgiving of my inability to shoot straight.

Is there any actual method by which the geth colossus can be guaranteed to use its main cannon as opposed to its machinegun? My wife is trying to charge-kill it, as is her wont. She has been at it for two and a half hours as of this writing. If at all possible I would like to know if there is a way to guarantee that its behavior does not lead to murdering her up-close.

As soon as ur done talking to Vetor, Charge it asap from around the cover where Vetor is. Might take a few tries to get it down just right though, but once u get it should only use its ball cannon.

The trick is to charge at the right moment. When you see the Colossus go into its firing posture - eyes glowing - front legs together, Charge it. If you get the timing right, you will notice the Colossus closes its two front legs again - that means it is going to energy bolt you - so each time you see the Colossus closes its front legs, hit it with a power (if charge is on CD or if you want to save the Charge for later and have squad power ready). Also, if you notice other Geth shooting at you, you can carefully sidestep around the Colossus and use it as cover.
As long as the Colossus keeps closing its legs, you are fine, once it spread its legs, well... you're a bee hive XD

There is only one way to guarantee the Colossus will not shoot at you..at all. I found it by accident when I tried to Charge Colossus from the room with the switch. It worked, but as soon as I got to the Colossus, the game automatically put me back to Kal Reegar. I then Charged the Colossus again and it did nothing, no fire. I tried this several times and this happens every single time.
Here I recorded it:
Colossus charge bug
Otherwise it is totally random and you might go down in a second if it uses machine gun (unless you manage to take cover really fast), if Colossus uses only the blue balls, you are fine. Other times Charge completly fails and you have to wait for cooldown to Charge again.

Kronner, I've actually seen that method before - it's pretty neat but it feels too much like cheese.

I've been curious about this, so I'm gonna necro. Does the archon visor has any effect on the biotic charge. I never did buy the equalizer pack, but I know it's the only dlc pack that has an armor piece that stacks with cooldown charges. I know it's only 5%, so I was wondering if it's noticeable on a Champion!Vanguard.
It was my understanding from another thread, I forget which, that the Archon Visor is broken, and does not work as intended. For Vanguards, I would recommend the Aegis Pack, as the Kestrel Armor is probably the best set for this particular class. The melee, weapon damage, and shield bonuses are great. I usually go with the Kestrel Helm, Arms, and Chest, and use the melee shoulders and the storm speed pants, just so I have that extra speed boost getting into cover if I need to.

AFAIK, it's not broken. And the exception on Charge cooldown is intended.

Ok here's all the data in one post.
With regard to shockwave it appears that all is working as it should be other than the archon visor. It has a 6 second cool down which is affected in the following ways by the following powers and items
shockwave CD no visor 0 vanguard passive
4.684 (20% research CD reduction from 6 second CD default in effect)
shockwave CD visor 0 vanguard passive
4.7 (20% research CD reduction from 6 second CD default in effect)
shockwave CD no visor champion vanguard passive
3.8 (15% vanguard passive CD reduction in affect in concert with 20% research CD reduction)
37% cool down reduction!! Slightly higher than the 35% expected but a few percentage points here and there is to be expected.
From those numbers you can see that the visor has no affect, that the 20% research cool down has an affect, and that the champion evolution of the vanguard passive has an affect. With charge though it's a different story
I did four passes but for brevity I'll only post the one as there were only very minor differences in times
heavy charge with 0 point in vanguard passive
5.733
That's only a 5% reduction CD time from 6 seconds instead of the 20% CD I should be getting from bio upgrades.
heavy charge with champion vanguard passive
4.934
That brings it up to 19% cool down reduction, which is pretty close to the 15% from the passive and 5% that the research is giving off
Area charge with champion vanguard passive
4.867
heavy charge with destroyer vanguard passive
5.2
That brings it to 14% which is to be expected since destroyer is 6% less CD reduction than champion.
And that's all the relevant data.
The archon visor is most definitely broken.

I'd say go Scimitar or Katana if you want to use Squad Cryo.

So I was failing at using the search function and was wondering if you guys would be able to tell me if the claymore will be able to strip defenses and have enough juice left over to say freeze the enemy with cyro rounds on a level 30 new game+? I just got the Claymore and find that even with 3 shotgun upgrades it does not commonly freeze enemies after I strip their defenses. Since I'm only level 18 now I'm kind of worried for the future. Should I just stick to the evi/viper combo?
I liked using Cryo with the Katana since if fires so rapidly. Evi is a little slow, but can still work. On the other hand, Viper and Cryo is a match made in heaven - Check out Vanguard: Complete Control to see it in action.

That was just beautiful man.
I actually did a playthrough just like that myself, only I substituted the Viper with the Mattock. As a console gamer, the auto-aim is just annoying, and I feel comfortable charging with the Mattock. There was a "Cryoguard" guide that was my inspiration.
My build was:
Inferno Ammo (Max)
Improved Cryo Ammo (Max)
Heavy Charge (Max)
Shockwave (Rank 2)
Pull (Rank 3)
Champion (Max)
Stasis (Rank 1)
Weapon Layout was:
Mattock
Tempest (rarely used)
Scimitar
Carnifex
I went with Improved Cryo over Squad Cryo, because the latter would always get in the way of my efforts to cause "Warp Explosions." Plus, with Improved Cryo equipped onto my Scimitar, charging enemies would never be an issue since they would be frozen shortly afterwards.

Right. And I meant Scim, not Katana... although it's as good, just not as fast.
I read the Cryogaurd guide too, looks fun. I'm just happy that the whole "Cryo sucks" era is over and people see how awesome it can be. Hell, I created an entire Sentinel build around that one power.

Did you have to mess with the script to get those crazy pull effects? Great vid I laughed when you pulled that krogan until his face smashed into explosives kudos
But I do have another vanguard with sniper rifle training. In fact I stopped playing my new game+ of that character because charge seemed to brutal. So I'm interested as to what will happen with this shep

No, my game is vanilla... I'm not savvy enough to edit scripts. It's simply a game mechanic where frozen enemies are considered weightless so you can toss 'em around better.

With my old Vanguard I would have to sit back and strip shields before I charged but now I feel like even without upgrades I can charge and do a considerable amount of damages.
Right now I have squad incendiary and improved cryo and I am running into problems of enemies not freezing after the first shot. After Horizon I'll try inferno and maybe I'll start getting one shot kills until then cheers.

It is so sublime to charge into someone that a squadmate has cryoed shattering them fairly instantaneously
Kind of surprising myself as I thought I would have a harder time than I appear to be but so far only real deaths I've had have either been to stupidly timed/placed 'Charges' or due to Shepard yelling out "Can't reach the target" moments before death

Funny how much my Vanguarding has changed since that first run, but this guide was definitely the start for me. Despite the numerous playthroughs since, that first thrilling run with a Shepard based on this guide was the most fun of them all.
