Sorry for posting again so soon, but forgot to ask if anyone has the link to the colossus vid mentioned some pages earlier in this thread, would be greatly appreciated.

I've just uploaded my video of using charge on Colossus www.youtube.com/watch.
I was sure that I wouldn't stand a chance against the Colossus (gave myself like 10sec of life before being shot to pieces ;)). And actually, during my first attempt some charge-bug occured and I was just standing there, in front of the Colossus, unable to move - died a very painful death. But, I reloaded the game and killed it just like on the video - without any problems. So, reloaded once again to record it. Seriously, it's easier than the "traditional" way...
[BTW. big thanks to thisisme8 for video editing info]

Wow thats much easier than I thought it would be, just have to be gutsy enough to try it. If I ever do that part again I might try dancing around it with a flamethrower.

With everyone else posting vids, I wanted to get in on the action. I know I'm late to the party, but I made one of the derelict Collector ship platform section. I was using the Claymore and the fast reload trick. It was far from a flawless run, though.

Looking forward to trying this on that Colossus.

Now THATS how you use a Claymore. Well done.

It really comes down to your level. As a level 30 Vanguard it is a bit harder to pull it of than lets say level 15, because when you heavy charge, champion and ammo skills, you are not really getting any better with new levels coming.

edit:
but it is still the best tactic, go in do as much damage as you can before geth minions show up and finish him when its safe, this is a lot faster than going through all the geth from the start point :)

I must admit you inspired me to try the Claymore trick again and for some reason it clicked this time so I made another video. It's not perfect and its also on the Collector Ship just because I have a save there, but now I have a reason to play Vanguard again. Maybe female this time :o

Still don't know if I prefer it over the Evi, just because you can't implement melee the same way, but its a nice change of pace. I also cleared that area faster with the Claymore despite the mistakes so I should probably give it more credit.

Nice vid. Once you get the timing down you can rip through several things real quick.

I'm starting to prefer the Claymore overall now that I've got the trick down. Don't really need to melee if you one shot stuff. With the big enemies that you can't one shot I'm not sure if the meleeing is going to be much better than chain firing the Claymore. So far I've been able to handle a scion and a geth prime pretty easily with chain firing. Also wanted to remind that you can also clip the reload with a charge, noticed that you charged that scion while empty a couple times.

Yea I just wanted to get my shield back as soon as possible against the Scion since you can take your time against them. The thing about melee that you are forgetting is you can stagger enemies in between your shots. For example you kill one guy then melee the second enemy to buy you time until you can shoot again. Even with the Claymore trick theres a decent chunk of time between shots where you can't do anything which may leave you dead. The insane power sure is nice though and it is the best shotgun for boss enemies since melee doesn't phase them.

Once some more DLC gets released I will def go for Claymore, but no AR is going to suck for certain parts.

I'm assuming you're talking about meleeing enemies that are near you that you didn't just splatter, right? In that case, yeah being able to melee them before you can take a shot to take some of the heat off would be nice. But it would go against my insane, reckless and suicidal playstyle.

I haven't tested or noticed, but does the melee that you do actually damage something if you're close enough? Won't matter much for the normal enemies, but thinking it might give just a little help with say, a geth prime or even Harbinger.

Melee does 125 base damage. With upgrades and armor it does 187.5 damage.

True. I was referring to the melee required to perform the Claymore trick. It will do the melee damage as well as the shottie damage, right? If you're close enough.

Well, I wanted to try the Claymore reload-melee trick, and although I failed miserably, it was still good enough to kill that Colossus

When I was practising that trick, it was all fine but during the combat I just could not do it. It will take me some time to get the hang of it, but I'll get there

NG+, Insanity, Inferno Ammo
Grunt and Miranda were non-factors with power usage disabled.

(might take a while to process, but will be available in 1080p)

And here's my run on the Colossus. Still processing at the moment.

Insanity of course. Using the Claymore and Inferno Ammo. Couple of misfires and mischarges but I was happy with it. Damn quick too. After you take it out all the other geth just despawn it seemed.

Been reading through this thread on and off for a few hours, has massivily improved my game.

I played a VG on normal for my first playthrough and almost never charged, just played like a soldier really. After reading this thread and watching the videos posted I decided to jump right into playing again on Insanity and have been charging like a maniac, it's been great fun.

I don't normally finish alot of games these days, most of the time I just get bored and move on, so actually wanting to play a second (did an Infil run as well) and third time on a harder difficulty no less, makes me think BioWare did a great job on this game. Just fix the charge bugs.

I'd make and post my own videos, but am a 360 player and have no wish to shell out £50-£60 to be able to. So keep on posting them, for me.

Oh yea it should do damage, I don't see why it wouldn't

That Colossus actually seems easier to kill than most tough enemies. Its too slow and clumsy to beat a Vanguard, but it does have a huge health bar.

Same. Don't see any reason why it shouldn't, but I've played enough games to think that there could be something that could cause it not to work.

One issue with the Colossus is that it has two guns, the big energy ball cannon and a machine gun. Whenever it turned the machine gun on me I got eaten alive. Thing just ripped me to pieces before charge could cooldown. What seemed to work was not standing in direct melee with it, but out a bit so it'd use the cannon but that's not even 100%.

Good to hear... err...  read!  Anytime the info here helps we get all excited.  There are tons of videos coming in right now so you should be good for a while.  Just drop a line if you run into any trouble.  We've got a good group that checks in here pretty regularly that can help out.

It looks like you can kill it even faster with the Claymore (no real surprise). To bad I really cannot convince myself to use that shotgun...

I wonder how that fight would look like with Evi. Now I'm angry at myself that I didn't keep a save before "dueling" with Colossus. With Evi being great against armor it could go even better.

Well I finally figured out the most effect setup for my VG.

Infero Ammo - 1 (No point but why not spend it)

Cryo Ammo - 0

Heavy Charge - 10

Heavy Shockwave - 10

Pull Field - 10

Champion - 10

Heavy Warp ammo - 10

I went with the Claymore. I use Thane for pull detonation and long range support, along with Grunt for tanking ability. The bonus damage from Warp ammo once I pull the enemy is great, and I felt like the bonus skill was a hindrance because I always tried to use it when charge/pull was a better option.

I've seen a lot of posts about the Collector ship platform section. It was near impossible until I switched my setup. The most effective way for me was to grab the back left corner of the initial cover. Focus Thane on the Scion and Grunt was left to do what he does. I killed the 2 little collectors first then helped Thane finish off the Scion. I then moved to the right side of the second platform and attacked the rest from there. I left the second Scion for last and kept my teammates on the initial platform. If you get the first Scion before the third platform comes in (I count the one you start on as 1) you should have NO issues with this fight.

For the Praetorian fight I went with a more indirect approach. I took down the husks armor first and killed them with pull. Then as the Praetorian got close I charged past to the drones and killed them off. I left my teammates in position where the drones were and switched Grunt to AR. Then I just went back to the staircase thing and played keep away while my teammates killed it.

The rest of that level is fairly straight forward, just pick the right path to advance on and realize that killed the Harbinger first isn't always the best option as his attacks are pretty easy to dodge.

Ok here's another question. How does a Vanguard deal with the husk rushes? I know that you can prob one shot them but those bastards swarm pretty fast and pretty well not to mention the abominations that get thrown into the mix. One shotting an abomination can't be good for your health lol.

EDIT: On that note of the post above me how as a vanguard do you kill a mother effing Praetorian? Or if you can point me to vids that answer both these questions i'd be much obliged. Thanks.

I just started playing as a Vanguard so there are probably better solutions...

But what I like to do against husk is just give ground.  Slowly pull them out one by one and just give ground and back pedal; as you back pedal, use a SMG to take out the husks.  If they are getting too close, use charge to knock them back and run away.  It also helps to have cryo ammo or shockwave.

Pretty sure the Evi does not do more damage against armor. I'm assuming the Evi gets x1.5 bonus to armor which is higher than the Claymore's x1.25, but the Claymore's base damage wins out.

Use the Avalanche to take down their shields then just pull field them.  You can also use shockwave but its cooldown is too slow to deal with a huge rush.  Otherwise just shoot them with the gauge once then pull/charge them.

For husk rush I just melee a husk to stun it then shotgun its face off. You will have to bob and weave to not get swarmed but husks are stupid and easy to dodge. Whenever you are in trouble just charge to regain shields. You can always bring Samara along for area reave to destroy armor then shockwave a group as well.

For Praetorians I just use heavy weapons, heavy pistol, vindicator if you have it, along with squad abilities. I haven't tried shotgunning one since it would probably be suicide. Someone make a Vanguard vs Praetorian video using shotguns and charge only :o

I accept your challenge. And hate myself for it. Now to find a save with one...

For the husks I do about the same. Just run about out of cover and shotty them along with some melee and charges. They get seperated easily and if some decide to pick off my squad I don't really have much issue with that.
