Ok so even with the abominations and them having a tendency to go BOOM not killing you? I only ask about those guys cause i know there arent many on the Collector Ship but on the IFF mission omfg husks with the abominations thrown in is just lame.

I realize now that in my first playthrough I wasn't using the vanguard to its full potential. I'll have to rectify that when I go back for my definitive runthrough. Assuming I don't decide to go with the Infiltrator or one of the other classes. Cloak+shotgun is pretty appealing.

If you Charge at or near an abomination, it'll explode and you'll take no damage. Not sure why.

Heres a quick and dirty video of the Reaper IFF beginning:

Playing an Infiltrator now on Hardcore. I'm gonna have to stop you right there and say no to your Cloak + Shotty idea. While this is off topic. AR you can make work if you want to use the Semi auto sniper for Infiltrator otherwise use the Widow Sniper. But not the shotty. It's a cool idea but on a hard difficulty it just wouldn't work.

Double post. Thank you for the Video i figured it wasn't that hard to hurt em just seemed like with all the swarming and stuff I have to deal with on my infiltrator wasn't sure how it'd be on a class that has a Shotgun with fairly limited ammo perclip.

What do you think of the Eviscerator compared to the Claymore?

Personally I only use the Claymore.  If I had to choose a different SG it would be the Scimitar.  The DLC shotgun did nothing for me really.  It isn't strong enough to 1 shot things, and delays too long to get multiple shots off without taking cover to regen.  The only time I use the DLC SG is on squadmates other than Grunt.

Is it true you can use assault rifle with vanguards if so how it would really help my insanity playthrough

if you don't have at least 1 point in pull, you are gipping yourself on the best bargain in the game.  With the 2 second cooldown and Miranda or Thane around you can do Warp Explosions like crazy.  Helps a lot on Insanity and only for 1 point.

Good thing RamsenC isn't in here to read this, he'd have a cow.  He swears by Evi.  I'm a big fan too.  It's a happy medium between the Scim and the Claymore.  I can and do use them all, and they each have their own strength and weaknesses, but the weaknesses are minor on all of them.  I'd say make your pick based on how each handles more than how much damage each one does.  Several pages back there are a whole bunch of posts on how they all compare in damage per second if used properly and they came out to be pretty even...  that is, until the reload trick came out.  But that's tough to pull off for some.

You will find it in one of the Storyline missions about halfway through the game.  Can't miss it.

I would say yes, but I don't use bonus powers for some reason, even though I think they are great.  The problem most people have with putting a point into Pull is the three points it costs in Shockwave to unlock it...  that generally means that you have another power somewhere that you can't max out.

I agree that pull is awesome. No other biotic power is better to use before a charge. If you don't want to throw points into shockwave, crippling slam is a nice replacement for pull. Not 100% sure warp detonates on slam though, have not tried it.

Now that I figured out the Claymore trick I'm unsure of my favorite shotgun but the Evi is still great and very capable of one shotting enemies, Plus you get ARs.

What's the cooldown on Slam? Everyone on earth seems to love Reave like it's going out of style, but the any CD over 3-4 seconds seems like too much for me. With upgrades, Pull is down to just over 2 seconds.

Slam is 3s on Shepard, but 6s on Miranda. Reave is 6s and pull is 3s. Those are just the base cooldowns though, without any bonuses.

Slam seems so appealing all of the sudden... damage good? I totally Pull spam on Husk swarms, but with an identical cooldown, I could max slam without having to invest in Shockwave. Don't get me wrong... Shockwave is freaking awesome on Veteran and below, but the CD for it on Insanity doesn't cut it.

Slam damage is nothing special, at least with crippling slam. Could be nice on heavy slam, but I prefer the 9s of incapacitation. Crippling slam can also keep multiple enemies on the ground. Pull and neural shock will wear off if you use them on a second target.

If you don't have claymore its a good replacement vs armored foes. I use scimitar vs shielded or barrier foes, evi vs armored.

Sorry for posting again so soon, but forgot to ask if anyone has the link to the colossus vid mentioned some pages earlier in this thread, would be greatly appreciated.

I've just uploaded my video of using charge on Colossus www.youtube.com/watch.
I was sure that I wouldn't stand a chance against the Colossus (gave myself like 10sec of life before being shot to pieces ;)). And actually, during my first attempt some charge-bug occured and I was just standing there, in front of the Colossus, unable to move - died a very painful death. But, I reloaded the game and killed it just like on the video - without any problems. So, reloaded once again to record it. Seriously, it's easier than the "traditional" way...
[BTW. big thanks to thisisme8 for video editing info]

Bookmarked it, thanks!

I have to say
this is untrue.
Squad Cryo ammo on insanity saved me a lot of
trouble against  vorcha, husks and collector drones.
Easy pickings,
if you will.
Especially if your teammates are using SMGs/ARs

So which squad mates do you guys typically use? I'm about to start my first insanity play through and it'll only be my second Vanguard play through, so I'm not really sure who I should use. Miranda seems like a wise choice given the fact that she's almost certainly the best all round squad mate, but I've used her on every other play through and I'd like some variety. Tali seems popular amongst Vanguard players due to the distraction her drone creates, but does the short amount of time it lives for really justify the use of an otherwise fairly weak character? What about Grunt? His shotgun and krogan charge often cause him to act as a target, can he act as an effective distraction at times due to his high HP and regen?

Anyone know if slam warp detonates? If it does, then slam is a winner for me.

They will be out of cover for the first second of slam, but then they are on the ground for awhile. If you would prefer they stand out of cover instead of  being on the ground neural shock is a good option. Disables enemies for the longest time with an option for AoE and lowers enemy accuracy. Only downside is it doesn't work on synthetics. Pull is the best one overall though, its too bad it can't be maxed.

For squad mates I like Miranda and Legion/Tali best, but If I'm fighting Geth I'll switch out Miranda for Zaeed for disrupter ammo. Tali is also not bad in combat if you just make her equip the hand cannon since she doesn't use the shotgun very well. Switch her out for Legion when you can since he gets an AR and the Widow. If you do not care for the drone Samara with area reave or Morinth with dominate are also good choices.

Early on, Miranda is great.  I usually substitute Jacob for Zaeed right away just for his sniper/AR combo, then once Jacob is leveled enough to use Inferno and Barrier I'll bring him back in vs. Mechs, Husks, etc.  Thane works great vs. the Collectors, as does a leveled up Samara.  Garrus and Miranda are a great team vs. Mercs.  Grunt can be brought on almost any mission and hold his own.  Same as Mordin.  He is surprising.

Some of my favorite team combos are:
Miranda - Thane/Garrus
Garrus - Thane
Grunt - Zaeed
Tali - Garrus
Thane - Samara
Miranda - Jack
Jacob - Grunt/Zaeed
Tali - Legion
Samara - Mordin

About the Drone:  It really is so usefull.  Vanguards only need a few seconds to do anything.  A Drone is perfect for 100% distraction while the Vanguard focuses on someone else.  By the time the Drone is gone, you're halfway through a Charge at the guy it was targeting.  And it has such a short cooldown that you can practically keep one enemy distracted for an entire fight.  Unless you bring Tali and Legion, then you can keep two.  My only issue with using two Drones is it gets tedious trying to manage them both.

You know I still don't have Morinth...  I just can't bring myself to do it.
