You'll get different answers to this.  Some people like the Collector Beam because it eats up armor pretty well, has perfect aim, and just keeps blasting.  I take the Avalanche because where there are Scions there are Husks.  I hate Husks.  The Avalanche will 1-shot them and when It's just me vs. a couple Scions, the Scions don't stand a chance.  Unless they're on platforms.  Hate those guys.

Edit:  Stupid platform Scions.  Hate 'em.

Unless you picked the Claymore you can just SMG the barrier then Vindicator/Viper the rest.

That guy actually hasn't played ME2, you can see in the thread he posted about "The Good and the Bad" or something.

Anyway I want to see more videos!!! I don't care if they don't show anything new. I still want to see vanguard crushing blue suns, and working garrus recruit mission.

I have some vanguard crushing blue suns. here it is

Goddamn...

That was amazing!

I've always been impressed with your vids, but that's my favourite. I've never solo'd an enemy with fully charged 3-stack defenses like that Blue-Suns Commander (Shields/Armour/Health).

quick tip here for all you vanguards out there, as soon as you can get to illium go to the map shop and buy the pylos nebula map. go there and do the mission, should be really foggy and against geth, so miranda and zaeed/garrus recommended. you pick up a 10% dmg reduction upgrade there, which should be your third, this then unlocks the hard shields upgrade (sheperd's shields take 20% less dmg) which greatly increases vanguard survivability. hope that helps some of you.
edit: Canalus, 3rd planet, Dirada System, Pylos Nebula << Mass Effect wiki http://masseffect.wi...eather_Detected

money wise i only ever buy stuff that shep uses until end game, so biotic dmg(to unlock cd upgrade)/shotgun dmg/dmg reduction etc. means i'm never left wanting when i find something shep needs.

squad incendiary

squad cryo (for those bastard ymir's....works VERY well ive found)

heavy charge

shockwave(1) (just to force them outa cover once in a while)

champion

heavy reave(double damage to shields etc., so 80 points a second for 5.5 seconds....oh yes please! )

couple all that with an assualt rifle and eviscerator shotty, and im all set :D gotta say, the advice you guys have given is first class, obviously, everyone plays different, and im glad ive found a set up, that works best for me, couldnt of gotten this set up anytime soon had i not found this thread, nice one guys! :D

I finally decided to write something instead of just reading, as people already have said this thread has really contributed to my "Vanguarding". The three that really stands out are Kronner, Thisisme8 and Sinosleep, thanks for all the tips.

Now to my question: How big is the difference between Hardcore and Insanity, I am just about to get to the Collector ship on Hardcore and finding it really fun but I would like a little more challenge.

Also a question for people with the so-called "Vanguard sickness" I read about earlier, has a cure been found yet? I'm worried I might have gotten while paying a visit to Horizon. :(

it's not that big of a jump from hardcore to insanity. you die around 2 seconds faster when getting shot at.. and they take like 2 seconds longer to kill.. but not too much difference on a vanguard since you shot gun them in the face and they pretty much die already. you cant cure vanguard sickness, but you can adapt.. like playing cqc sentinel and soldier and infiltrator :D havent tried adept or engi yet

Ok, thanks Simz. Sounds like it will be a bit more challenging, just what I wanted! :P

I just beat ME2 on Hardcore with a level 30 Vanguard. He had the Claymore heavy shotgun, and Barrier for bonus power.

It was challenging, but pretty easy. I used Barrier to be able to get close without dying, and blasted everything at point-blank with the heavy shotgun.

I don't understand why so many people complain about the Claymore, it kills normal enemies in 1 or 2 shots usually, with Inferno or Warp ammo. Its only downside is that you have to be practically right in the enemies' face, but that makes it more fun. Biotic Charge is good for closing in for a Claymore shot, too. Of course, be careful to not charge right into an entire group of enemies all at once, they'll kill you very quickly, even if Barrier is up.

If you are going to try it again on Insanity, just remember that Barrier only gives you about 1 more second of life...  Hardcore is a good achievement though.  Couple weeks ago, no one thought it could be done.

i'd recomend dropping barrier aswel, heavy charge gets you there faster, and without taking fire, and gives the same boost to shields that barrier does.

i was gunna get abrrier and though, nah, get reave, then, if i take fire, i can harm them, and rebuild my own shields, just want the claymore shotgun now...so i can really unleash the hurt

Great thing about Vanguards is you really don't need a bonus power, which means you can pick any one that floats your boat. See, shotguns are naturally good against shields and barrier, so you don't 'need' Warp Ammo. They are weak against armor, but you have Incendiary Ammo which makes getting AP ammo a little redundant and 10% more damage with the loss of the Incendiary's panic to organics is not worth wasting a bonus power. Your Charge refills your shields and has a faster cooldown than any of the defense powers, AND Vanguards naturally get Cryo Ammo.... ahem. You get my point.
