You don't need the Claymore with a Vanguard, take the Sniper Specialization from the Collector ship.

you don't need to,  but then i've already taken AR and Sniper rifile twice each for my other playthroughs,  so for my vanguard,  it will be shotgun.

Great thing about Vanguards is you really don't need a bonus power, which means you can pick any one that floats your boat. See, shotguns are naturally good against shields and barrier, so you don't 'need' Warp Ammo. They are weak against armor, but you have Incendiary Ammo which makes getting AP ammo a little redundant and 10% more damage with the loss of the Incendiary's panic to organics is not worth wasting a bonus power. Your Charge refills your shields and has a faster cooldown than any of the defense powers, AND Vanguards naturally get Cryo Ammo.... ahem. You get my point.

100% agreed. Too bad you have to put points into Shockwave to unlock Pull <_<

Yep, you do not need it, but then again I have AR Vanguard and I realized I rarely ever use AR. It once again comes down to personal preference since all shotguns are pretty good. (well maybe not Katana :D)

Rumor abound there's a glitch in the Claymore's reloading that makes it reload faster. Basically it comes down to two piecing with shotgun and melee with Charge, quite frankly I suggest whoever hasn't tried yet to use the Ceberus Gear, all of it infact.

i dont see why people rave over the cerb armour, you can get better stats using the N7 pieces. the only good part is that it lets you have 2 shots for the cain.

It's not glitch, it works the way it's supposed to. Christina Norman actually posted this trick in this very thread.
I tried to use it in this video (apparent from 0:33-0:37)

the same fight and reload trick by ShoNuffarian

Actually, if you paid attention, you can make the exact same stats replicate into N7.  I've never tried "better" yet, my Custom Armor is a mix match of Shields, health, and the Recon hood.

..and you cannot remove the freakin' helmet. N7 is the option for me.

Ok, I've just now played through the collector ship three times now and come to the conclusion that all of you seem to already have made. Claymore only excels if you can use the reload trick at least 90% of the times you need it, preferably all the time because if you melee before 60% of reload, you have to do the whole thing again, which means a sad and dead Shepard.

If you cannot do this trick, I recommend AR or Sniper, it's your choice. I found I don't charge as much when using one of these two, which also means a refillnot as often, and the time I spend swapping weapons I could spend charging at them with the Claymore.

So it's now official, I'm a Claymorer(?!)

Quick tip: Reload trick is much easier if you hold the fire button pressed and press melee when you hear the "click".

It's pretty decent for your first couple of levels on a brand new Insanity game.  I think that's all it was made for anyway, a little boost to get you on your feet before you can afford your custom N7 armor since the starting stats are kind of small and all over the place.

I tried Barrier at first, but later switched to Reave. It helped a lot, but I found barrier to be better for getting close, and surviving for longer. Also, if my regular barrier failed, I could just activate the barrier ability, and it would buy me enough time to get behind cover.

It may only offer a few more seconds of shield, but those few seconds can make all the difference, and be just enough to get you some good cover close to the enemy. I was one-shotting enemies lots of times, even when they had shields or armor (barriers are a bit trickier).

why sigh? i can get 15% shields and 15% health using N7 if i want (at the same time). health is useless really for the vg, your base value is so low that 10% adds, at lvl 30, 30 health, woohoo. i've found the best armour for vanguard to be:
head: recon helmet - 5% wep dmg
shoulders: strength boost pads 25% - melee dmg
chest: shield harness - 5% shields
arms: stabilisation gauntlets - 5% wep dmg
legs: N7 Greaves - 3% shields / life support webbing - 10% health (28 shields vs 30 health, giving 378/300 shields/health vs 367.5/330 health)

edit: i use scim so precision headshots aren't very common, if claymore or evi is what you use then the headshot visor thing is going to be more effective.

I like that setup too (though I use visor). It looks good and doesn't take too long in the game to get everything you need.

masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Geth_Pulse_Rifle    for any of you who got the AR as your bonus weapon....just found out about this....apparantly it mashes shields....could make 3 YMIR mechs VERY unhappy, very quickly!

It's completely rubbish don't use it. Vindicator is better in every way against any target.
I did some testing for this in another thread. Ended up something like this. Geth Pulse Rifle spends 30 shots to kill an Eclipse Initiatte, while the Vindicator uses 3 bursts (9 shots), which is much much faster. Another guy tested it on Ymir's with god mode active, firing for 10 seconds, Vindicator had the shields stripped and was into the armor, while the Geth was still on the shields.

From what i've seen Geth Pulse rifle is better used against barriers and as such is really good against the collectors.

I have nothing against the masseffect.wikia guys because I think it's great what they are trying to do, but they seem to post a lot of unverified imformation that is later proven to be wrong or inaccurate.

Ok, it's video time! I've become a HUGE fan of the Claymore, but I definitely agree that you need to use the reload trick. I was doing Mordin's loyalty mission yesterday and had so much fun killing the Krogan boss that I just had to do it over a few times and get it on video. Here it is.

www.youtube.com/watch

I've been using squad cryo and inferno for the whole game and I've never even had the urge to try anything else. As for bonus power... I have reave, but never really use it. I've tried a few others, but reave has come in handy a few times where charging isn't really an option. In other words, you just don't really need a bonus. I'm thinking about trying slam though, can get some nice warp combos with that. Pull too, but at least if the combo doesn't work for whatever reason slam hurts more and disables them.

Anyway, my first video. Yaay!

Edit: Is it just me or is the post editor a little flakey? Maybe just if you're using Chrome?
