i've done 2 or 3 plays as vg on ng+, so its definitely doable. its just at the start that it sucks because survivability is so low, coupled with low dmg from the shotties. once you've got shield penetration and hard shields upgrades its back to kicking arse and taking names, and is more fun because you have all your abilities to use. until you have those, charge is relegated to a gtfo button rather than offensive for most of the time (barring precise knowledge of where enemies spawn where cover is etc)
like sino said, it is easier to start with if you picked up sniper or ar, giving you the ability to do dmg from range. possibly worth having barrier for the start, letting you get a decent amount of shots off before having to get back in cover, as you spend alot of early ng+ waiting for health/shields to regen edit: and can't risk charging.

NG+ Insanity is only harder in the beginning, after you get the necessary upgrades (hard shields makes a ton of difference) it slides back to regular Insanity. All in all NG+ is pretty much useless since you do not even get the Paragon/Renegade points, so you actually end up having less than you had the first time (after importing ME1 char)
But on the other hand I could enjoy Claymore throughout the whole game :)

After first beating the game on normal with my vanguard, I couldn't wait to use my level 30 status on NG + At first I thought I'd try it on normal again to see how much ownage I could do. Little did I know about how the enemies kept their upgrades while I had none! I wasn't having any fun at all. Tried a fresh new character on insanity. More challenging but more rewarding since the enemies have no upgrades. I just felt like I was getting punished on NG + Can't imagine how tough it must be on NG + insanity  Maybe one day I shall venture into that territory and die a glorious heavy charging death against the first loki mech I encounter, ha ha ha :)

I had no problems except for collector ship which there is no strategy to win you can only get lucky, die 100 times and maybe once you'll beat it , but have no idea why or how you did it just plain luck, that part sucks there is skill involved.

sorry I'm really frustrated with this part i have died 100 times at least with out getting past platforms.  dieing 10 times is understandable but this part sucks there is no usable cover squad uses their gun like once every 2 min. (to quote Grunt "useless") maybe I'll get lucky soon I hope or I won't ever play this game again or any game for that matter (my xbox is coing close to getting thrown through the window).

My last play through was as a Vanguard. And the last boss mission, on hardcore was like speading peanut butter!
One of our fellow posters, I apologize the name escapes me, and I like to give credit where it is due, pointed out that maxed reave is like unleashing armageddon on your enemies.

So, on my last playthrough, on hardcore (have not played insanity yet) I substituted reave for fortification, and did the following

Reave - max and select 'area reave'
Assault Mastery - max and select 'Champion'
Charge - max and select 'heavy'
shockwave - level3
pull - level2
incid ammo - level2
cryo ammon - levl2

I might be one off, on the lower ones, but the important thing is to max Reave, Charge, and Assault Mastery.

Samara - max Reave - choose 'area weave'
Miranda - max cerberus agent - choose tactician (I think that is the one that gives squad health bonus), also max out slam and warp (choosing the brutal individual versions - the ones that do the most damage to a singe target).

Harbinger never lived much beyond 'this hurts you Shepard..).
From the moment Harbinger appears, launch a simultaneous attack, Miranda (slam or warp), Samara (reave), Shepard (reave) and watch Harbinger turn to dust.  Rinse and repeat. At most, he will go down so far as to be easy pickings, a few short bursts of the weapon of your choice.  Reave strips an enemy of defenses, first reducing shields, then damaging armour, then sucking life force like there is no tomorrow.

Harbinger rarely survived the first assault, between Samara and I both hitting him with reave, and Miranda hitting him with slam, or overload, he went down. And since Samara and I use 'area reave', any troops caught in the blast took damage as well. My biotics always recovered faster than my companions, fast enough that I could hit harbinger again, with another reave, and watch him dust out.

Can't say the same would work on insanity, I have not tried that level yet.
But on hardcore, Shepard, Samara and Miranda cleaned out those platforms in very quick succession.

Same tactic works on the IFF mission. Only there, I took Samara and Jack (and had jack's shockwave maxed).
Husks and scions were going down.  You do have to run in places, and sometimes, if your timing was off, you got gacked. But otherwise, learn 'reave', use reave', reave is your friend, you take care of it, develop it, and it will take care of you.

whats your opinion on barrier? i tried it in one mission and it proved very useful - i turn it on before charge (it lasts for 60s), then charge, shoot and when barrier goes down - charge again or turn on barrier if in danger.

of course you tried that - but is it a good alternative for reave?

ramsenc says, and i agree, that barrier is a good ability to pick up for vg, but that its not worth putting many points in. 1 point for when you cant/shouldnt charge and need to survive is enough when it comes to barrier. frees you up to get pull field for warp detonation fun.

I find that spamming reave isn't fun so I chose to use slam for bonus skill and abandon pull / shockwave.

I'll see if the IFF mission is actually doable using crippling slam (too bad the husks die and cannot be used as grenades for warp explosion).

Personally I've never been a big fan of barrier. For one, the cool down is obscene. Then I'm of the opinion that for normal mobs it's useless (I might lose shields all the time, but regular mobs never kill me so it's a moot point) but then it doesn't provide a big enough boost against big bads like harbinger to matter. I put points into it, but only because with my build the 6 points are wasted regardless of where I put them.

Yeah, Kurupt87 has been pretty awesome in this thread, so it's good to see him post some up.

By the way, what's it like going from console to PC?

finally beat the 3 crate defending YMIRS whoever said the geth pulse rifle was crap.....didnt use it properly, i absolutly obliterated the mechs with that, the evi, and then tali and miranda's powers....if i had a capture card( being on an xbox) id of put a vid up of it...by my standards...it was fast, for you guys, slow, but definatly much faster, the geth rifle is highly underrated...upgrades for the win, sure, its not as good against armour as the vindicator, but sheer rate of fire, ammo capacity, and shield decimation MORE than make up for it

Dude just check out the wasteland that is the general forum. I just replied in a thread there against my better judgement (hadn't even looked at that forum for weeks until tonight) where the OP and a couple of other trolls were trashing the class. I probably won't bother posting there again for the remainder of stay at these forums,

cheers boss. hmm, charge seems to bug more on pc, but that may just be due to me not  being completely used to where/when it'll do it yet. the best thing is that i can hotkey more than one squaddie ability, and that use squaddie ability and move squaddie aren't the same darn button. difficulty wise, i dno, this is my first "fresh" insanity run with vg in a while, had been doing NG+ mostly, but i really miss having the scim/ar/reave from the start:crying:. but am prefering pc tbh, once used to the controls its much more fluid (although left little finger for power bar?? whos idea was that??)

Why would you bother beating that mission with any weapon other than cain?
