Video! Bah kids these days, come on man, I've been stating that stuff for ages. You telling me that if I bothered to make a video rather then give all the relevant details of the test so that people could try it out for themselves if they didn't believe me, would actually have believed me? :P

Edit: Had to check, it's way back on page 3!

Don't worry, I believed long before we were posting videos about it.

oh I know you and the "regulars"(you know who you are :P) were on the same page about it.
I was referring to the "teeming masses" ;)

Geth doesn't get panic by Incendiary Ammo, right?

Nope, does nothing against Geth. Best ammo against them is Disruptor supplied by Zaeed, damages both shields/health, stuns and overheats the weapon.

Yeah I prefer to take Miranda though, personal preference.

Regarding the new build in the original post, why 4 shockwave 1 pull? Wouldn't 4 slam 1 shockwave be better? Crippling slam would provide more damage and a lengthier CC than pull. It would also provide a more efficient means of getting rid of abominations, since pull brings them to you and shockwave has a long cooldown. I believe (though I'm not certain) that you can warp detonate foes stunned by the crippling slam effect, so it could possibly provide a longer window of opportunity for detonations too.

Warp explosion only works on the lift portion of the slam, trickier to do

Im going to be making a mini vanguard guide kind of like this one with a few more details on which missions to do first etc.

The most important upgrades for a vanguard are the 3 biotic damage upgrades which unlock the biotic cooldown decrease upgrade. The 20% reduced biotic cooldown changes the game for the vanguard, allowing you to spam charge and be able to have a much better chance of survival in close combat. The second most important line is 3 damage protection for the hard shields upgrade, and the third most important is ofcourse shotgun upgrades.

You would be most awesome if you could include $ and when you can afford each one.  That's the one thing I always forget...  Kind of a chart that describes which are the most important at what time depending on how much money you have.

Unfortunately, the biotic upgrades only become available during the second half of the game, which means you have to wait that much longer to gain access to the cooldown bonus.

Horizon mission on a dead collector
Samara recruitment mission on Ilium
Jack loyalty mission
Serrice technology store on Ilium - 75k creds
Fortack's shop on Tuchanka - 90k creds

After you get the one on horizon, you can immediately go to Ilium and get the two upgrades there, thus giving you quicker access to the cooldown bonus (provided that you have the 75k creds for Serrice techologies). Tuchanka and Jack's loyalty mission only become available later.

Man, I've been meaning to post here for a few days now, but I didn't really want to until I read all the pages. I read up to 13, but I don't think I can sit and read 30 more pages in one sitting, so here goes...

Here's some helpful info that I've discovered with my vanguard, these are some things I hadn't seen mentioned in the first 13 pages.

- Inferno Ammo: its ability to cause organcis to panic CAN bypass defenses, but only under 1 condition. Say you have 2 Blue Suns mercs standing next to each other and the merc on the left (Merc A) has full health and shields, and the merc on the right (Merc B) has no shields and full health. If you shoot Merc A he won't panic and nothing significant would happen, but if you shoot Merc B he will panic and if Merc A is standing with in 3 meters of Merc B while he is ignited, the burst fire will also ignite Merc A and cause him to panic as well even though he has shields.

Now this can make a difficult situation extremely easy, like if you have a eclipse vanguard and 2 eclipse intiaites standing right next to each other (like during Miranda's loyalty mission by the elevator), all you have to do is take down the defenses of one and provided they're still standing next to each other ALL of them will be panicing, even though 2 of them still have defenses.

-Sniper Rifle: is the safer way to go if you can't perfect the claymore reload trick while in battle (Assault Rifle is also fine). But the Viper Sniper Rifle can be used in more ways than 1, it can also take the place of your shotty whenever its out of ammo. The viper will ALWAYS  (except for some like Harbinger) stagger an enemy when shot, and due to its rapid rate of fire you could keep an enemy stun-locked until you reload or he's dead. However this is only useful against 1-2 enemies, against 3 you'll be taking a great risk because the viper doesn't have a spread to hit multiple enemies, so it can work as your "charge" weapon, but you should only do this if your shotty is out of ammo.

I know there was a another thing I was going to mention, but I can't remember what it was.

P.S. Thanks to this thread I've discovered the beauty of cryo ammo, it keeps enemies down and prevents Harbinger from controling collectors, and for those reasons cryo ammo can be a life saver.

Maybe you should just start charging people money first before you hammer the truth home. I mean, I know people pay far much more attention to something if they're paying to hear it versus hearing it from someone that's offering friendly advice over a forum.

hehehe

I've been meaning to share this with you guys for a while but keep forgetting. It all started in ME to keep track of which planets I had been to. I bought both games through Steam and use the in-game browser to get into google docs (don't use the beta Steam client yet, it's broken). Alt-tab also works if you just want to use a normal browser.

Here it is.

On the subject of upgrades, check out sheet 2. That's how I keep track of everything and manage my money. You can easily sort it to see exactly what you'll be getting on each mission and what's coming up next to make sure you have enough cash. It makes life quite a bit easier, that's for sure. (All prices are after discounts)

The original planet list is from this on gamefaqs - by sentinelshepard.
The upgrade list I got from the masseffect.wikia.com upgrade guide.

Rather than just look at a static list of each, I figure it's just a bit easier to be able to properly track everything and see what's left. If you guys notice anything that's wrong or have any suggestions just let me know. I thought about sharing it on the general forums or something... but I'd rather see it in good hands. Enjoy!

Edit: Forgot to mention that on the Exploration tab you need to type yes for it to count properly.

That list of planets is great, it should definitely help to narrow down which ones are actually worth scanning for minerals.

I'm probably just a noob here but I can't find a way to switch to sheet 2...

Ah yes, I see it now. Much appreciated.

I haven't touched Excel in about 5 years, and even when I was using it I was awful at it. The only thing I'm ever on my computer for is internet browsing and iTunes stuff. Even Mass Effect 2 is on my Xbox 360, though I doubt the platform makes much of a difference.

Hah yeah... I originally built it in Excel (which I use ALL the time at work). Importing to google docs lost ALL the fancy formatting so I had to redo it all. Conditional formatting in gdocs just doesn't work nicely unfortunately. Oh well. At least it's functional.

Oh, for the upgrades I change the background to the lightest shade of grey which keeps all the text colours visible.

I just had to argue the Incendiary vs AP Ammo situation again. I'm going to give myself anxiety dealing with these people this topic is so redundant.

I still haven't really been convinced that AP is all that useful for any class so far. People see that big shiny 70% more damage and go blind I think. Must be it.

Edit: oh yes, very nice list. Thank you:)

Well, AP ammo's a good choice for classes that don't get any ammo type at all, so it DOES have a use :D (heh I personally like Warp Ammo, but that's more an RP thing rather than a power thing). But for the purpose of this thread, yeah, AP ammo just doesn't rate. (although the last 10 pages have been rather full of it!)

Maybe an Infiltrator? I haven't been able to play one for any length of time but from what I remember they get Incendiary and Cryo Ammo. I can't see any real need for Incendiary when sniping though it could come in handy once in a while I suppose. AP Ammo could give them a large straight damage boost to add to their burst damage.

Like I said, I have no idea. The only classes I've beaten the Mass Effect games with are the Soldier and the Vanguard.
