I dont use Miranda now very often, as it is quite rare to find enemies with shield AND barrier protection in the same area.

I find not so much use of Samara (biotics work only on pure health), Tali (dies quicky, her drone even quicker), Jack (biotics - as above), Jacob (biotics + incinerate = another vanguard), Zaeed (pure soldier, but has disr. ammo).

what I mean is that you need a balance of firepower (which drags attention and softens enemies) and powers (biotic/tech). I also know, that you are aware of it, but just want to exchange thoughts :)

I always have either Miranda or Thane on my squad for detonations (usually Miranda) but i always take a squad for the mission. Vs collectors its usually Thane and Miranda, vs synthetics its usually Miranda and Tali/Legion or Zaeed. Vs Blue suns Garrus and Miranda, vs Bloodpact, Mordin/Samara and Miranda, almost always Miranda in other words. Grunt is probably the one i use the least, since he doesn't have any good abilities. And my squad never dies, except sometimes vs scions and then Grunt dies as fast as anyone. This is when i play vanguard though, with other classes i might use Miranda less.

blood pact: miranda/mordin or miranda/puller(jacob early samara later)
blue suns: miranda/garrus
eclipse: miranda/garrus
collectors: miranda/samara
geth: miranda/zaeed
ofc other squaddies are effective but i've found these to be good, just the default people i choose really. the only one of those i'd recommend every time would be zaeed vs geth with squad disruptor. for the rest, it doesnt really matter, vg is seriously a lone wolf char, anyone you charge invariably ends up dead no matter their protection, so you only need squaddies for a cc on norms if you find yourself dying fairly regularly, or for help against the elites, or for the unchargeable enemies. plus, its always nice to be able to set off a warp bomb.

I don't really put a whole lot of thought into what squadmates I take with me on most missions. 90% of the time I take Garrus and Miranda -- one is Shep's best friend and the other is his LI (I'm weird in that I have moral obligation that forces me to take my LI along or it doesn't feel real).



If I'm fighting large numbers of mechs or geth, I'll take Zaeed with me instead of Garrus. If it's a mission with a large amount of CQC I might bring Grunt along. This is about the extent of it for me. Garrus and Miranda are so versatile that I don't really need anyone else. They have Overload for shields, Warp and Concussive Shot for Barriers, and AP Ammo and Warp for Armor.



Besides that, I'm a short range combatant and Garrus's Sniper/Assault Rifle and Miranda's SMG compliment my fighting style well.



On another note has anyone managed to preserve their romance in ME1 for the entirety of ME2? I ant to do it pretty bad, but I'm having a tough time trying to resist Miranda. I've already romanced Miranda twice with Vanguards so this decision shouldn't be this hard but I just can't bring myself to do it...



I figured out that if I tell Miranda that we can't be together it will restore my Ashley romance and Shep will pick her photo up again. Having a hard time deciding what to do though.

As with most Combat classes i take Miranda with me a lot and then rotate the other one depending on the mission.



I'm playing on Zaeeds loyalty now and im going to blame it on the rain but it's murdering me, i'm trying to play as a Scimitar Vanguard until the collecter ship to see what style i like. And i usually love it but i'm choosing to blame the Scimitar on my deaths, i'm about to restart the mission and grab my Evi and show these boys whats up.





Also a quick query, do you guys think that playing on the PC (i play on a 360 now) would increase my accuracy and overall level of killingness of being a VG?

Well, I have both versions, and as in most games, playing on the PC is much more satisfying graphically, and equally much easier since you can use the mouse/keyboard combo instead of a 'clunky' controller'. (calm, I love my 360 too)

So the answer would be YES, unless you are really, really....really bad... ;)

The deal is i have a MacBook so it's kind of a giant pain to set up Bootcamp. But i'm considering doing it for upgradeawesomeness.

Well I like Miranda as a character so that always helps but even if I didn't I'd still take her because she is just too damn useful to pass up. I mean, I can't honestly think of a situation where she wouldn't serve some usage in.



On husk heavy missions I always make sure to bring Grunt with me (Horizon, reaper ship, etc...).



Zaeed works well for some of the starting recruitment missions...

Great guide. I just happened to be starting Korlus when I saw that and it inspired me to make a video as well.

On a side note, being a Claymore junkie, I think I'm actually starting to warm up to the Evi this time around. Melee range headshots definitely pack a wallop. I have a feeling I'm going to sit on the Collector Ship for a long time. Viper or Claymore... Viper or Claymore......

I've never been able to consistently do the Claymore reload trick so I took the Viper, and I haven't regretted it for even a second. You won't use it often, but it's really nice to have in certain situations.

Besides, I don't really see a point in taking the Claymore when the Eviscerator is almost as powerful with a 3 shot clip and longer range.

What part of his mission are you having trouble on?

it'll be the end bit i reckon. if it is, then my tacs are charge the shotgun trooper down on your left straight away and finish him, there may be a normal trooper there aswel, but ignore him. run into the side room that you are next too, and park miranda in there with zaeed taking cover in the doorway. from there its charge aroundkilling all of them, when a pyro is out, use any range you've got to nuke him down then overload him or shoot his cannister with an inferno hvy pistol once shields are down. when the cannisters above start moving whip out your smg and take it down. when the ymir starts up, fight a retreating battle, shooting from over down there at the front, and falling back as he advances.

of course, you could just skip it all by charging the ymir straight away and going through the door.

I decided to record the Reaper IFF mission (I skipped the first part and started recording just before the first encounter and then I stopped recording before entering the last room - story spoilers and kinda boring with only Husks attacking, no Scions :() and play as recklessly as I could, I basically ignored Husks when possible and focused on Scions. Vid shows power of the Squad Cryo ammo and especially Charge.
I used Claymore with Inferno ammo for the whole mission, except for one time in the beginning -  I used SMG with Squad Cryo ammo to finish a few husks.
I also picked up all important upgrades available in this mission. :)
Played on NG+ Insanity, Shep is level 30 and has all meaningful upgrades as far as I know.

Youtube just gets retarded sometimes. I remember one of my suicide run vids took over 3 hours to process. Made no damned sense, considering it was one of the shorter ones.

Wow.  I use that room on the left as well.  It's great to put your team there as they can't get flanked and enemies trying to attack them end up bottlenecked.

That fight is a nightmare for me. I'll have no trouble at all killing the Troopers and Heavy's, but as soon as I get  down to 2 or 3 enemies left a Pyro will pop out from around a corner and stunlock me to death.

Cheapest enemy in the game? Possibly. Definitely up there with Harbinger and LOKI Mechs.

Vanguard on Insanity is definitely the most fun (and the most difficulty) I've had in Mass Effect 2. I still have to reload a lot due to bad Charges, but I'm learning. Mordin's recruitment mission actually wasn't too bad for me, but man...Zaeed's loyalty mission was a tough one. Blue Suns Pyros look almost exactly like normal troopers until you charge them and they're stun-locking you with flamethrowers. :(

 I was having issues with the Mech portion of the fight, but i just did the collector ship and after flip flopping between teh Evi/Scimitar/Claymore i've decided to take with the Claymore and i'm about to go back and it'll be easier to deal with.

I think when I get home I'm going to make a vid of that fight just for the heck of it. I always hit it first thing after recruiting Mordin for the heavy ammo or assault rifle upgrades though so it'll be a low level fight.

Yeah it's frustrating because i can take care of every enemy no problem but i just seem to have a problem with the YMIR, this is my first HXC run and the YMIR is the one thing i haven't really gotten a hold of.

I actually breathe a sigh of relief when that fight is at the point where all enemies are dead but the YMIR. I can just hide behind cover and kite him around for a couple of minutes while I whittle him down.

Getting the mech by itself is the toughest part for me. The Pyro enemies make my life a living hell. If they didn't exist, I think it would be one of the more fun fights in the game. The last time I beat it I actually had Zaeed activate the YMIR before the Blue Suns were dead so I had to fight multiple enemies at once in addition to the heavy mech. That was pretty exciting.

The thing I hate about Zaeeds recruitment mission is that you kill all the henchmen and secure a room, then exit the room and what do you know a guy spawned behind you inside the room you just cleared. It is stupid and really annoying.

Plus there is a point where you have to clear like three rooms until the game lets you save.  I was getting really angry because I would clear a bunch of rooms and die on the last one to charging a pyro who I thought was a random trooper.  :pinched:

I just did the Zaeed mission (Insanity, of course):

It's very entertaining fight since you can just Charge from side to side and kill all the minions easily :)
