I must be retarted lol, I am playing as a Vanguard, but I chose an Assault Rifle as my weapon on Collector ship, so all I do is Assault Rifle my enemies, and use pull, ammo powers, shockwaves, and barrier, and some times CHARGE - to finish an enemy off.
Am I playing it wrong, or did I just find a whole different way to play as a Vanguard, that fit my liking?
EDIT: I use Collector's Assault Rifle - since it looks badass!
It sounds more like a "tactical" Vanguard play style as I've seen it called. I do something similar. For now I use my SMG/Reave to soften up the enemy and get a look at potential cover spots. Then, after me & my squad drop one or two foes, I switch to my shotgun and start Charging. I'm using the Scimitar since I'm usually moving into cover or circle-strafing rather than beating things up. Though I do occasionally beat down the last foe just for fun.
I'm seriously considering getting AR training instead of the Claymore. I'm on Hardcore and just got the Geth Pulse Rifle. Some say it rips through shields like a mass-accelerated knife through butter, and some say it's a pile of ass.

Having tried both options a couple of times now, assault rifle vs sniper, I'd have to say your better off taking the sniper. The few situations were you want to use it, it does more damage in less time then the Vindicator (GPR is not even in the league as either). Excellent against YMIR.

BlueInkAlchemist, the ones telling you Geth Pulse Rifle rips through shields, do not really know what they are talking about. The Tempest will do a far better job against shields then the GPR, so will the Vindicator assault rifle.

Thank you. I've thought about that, too. My first love is the sniper rifle, as I've played both games as an Infiltrator and plan on doing so again on Insanity.

So far, I've done soldier/infiltrator/vanguard insanity runs... the rest, well, I dunno if I can ever do it.

I'm a proud vanguard now that I punched/shotgunned Colossus to death. I have to thank Kronner for the video that I found on Youtube by chance (it's listed here too as I found out now) - because before watching that, it would never have occured to me to do it. Probably. And it was fun.
I was able to do that, too. Only to get killed immediately after by a Geth Destroyer's flamethrower.
Reloaded, sent Zaeed and Miranda up the ramp to soften things up, and hit the Colossus with the Cain at the right moment. It didn't get back up.

Ahhh, isn't that satisfying? Except when it .50cals your face to death...

BlueinkAlchemist, that happened to me too once. Sometimes there are left over geth around as I found out while recording a few different versions of this fight -and my squadmates are usually dead- I was so overjoyed, I didn't even think about other geth and bam! A very upsetting death.. (forgot to add: it's the reason I by reflex check left side right after beating colossus as the geth that killed me was right there in my earlier attempt
Nexolek, true true. That's what happened on my first try - I was dead in a matter of seconds. All I could think was "this is impossible!" Second try, I got lucky and colossus didn't fire it's machine gun. I'm still not sure what triggers it though or if it's timing is random.

LOL that first death especially.. So unfair. It's easy to laugh now but it's so so frustrating in game.

Onebadassmother, never tried soldier -but I want to- and left my Infiltrator playthrough alone for now as I was itching to go back and play vanguard.. I even started this character as a sentinel and after a few missions, cheated and turned her back to a vanguard - as she was in ME1. I think I'm a hopeless vanguard-aholic.
A-rush mate, A-rush, that will make you love soldier. But nothing beats charge, not even infiltrator's sniper focus. Heh, I don't think you are a hopeless vanguard-holic, just itchy to play through it.
It is very satisfying. Especially for me (I gave up at the prison break until thisisme8 convinced me that it is doable). Now on all playthroughs, I have learnt CQC!!!

Heh, I don't know about vanguard - if I can play through the whole game with another class for once, then you're right. Because this is not my first vanguard run (although I wasn't much into CQC on my first playthrough) and I keep going back and mess up my characters' classes.

Not the hardest mission in the game, but most of it leaves adequate room for some good charge action. Especially the last fight.

Ufff im getting slaughtered in new game+.. The lack of upgrades is really nasty.. Doing mordins mission first and i can tell you... i hate pyros even more then before, and facing krogans without upgrades is nasty as well.. They can take so many hits.... And while i hit him a pyri always sneaks up... Oh well... I`ll make it somehow
After my first playthrough, I started a NG+ with my Vanguard and got to the last fight on Horizon before I finally just gave up.
Granted, I was playing like a gimped Adept and completely ignoring Charge, but still...
