So which one do you recommend using? Scimtar or Evi?sinosleep wrote...

In sinosleeps vanguard videos it seems that the scimtar assault shotgun he uses in the collector ship level stun locks the enemies. For instance after he charged the harbringer, the harbringer didn't even attack while he kept shooting at it. If that is the case wouldn't the scimtar be the best shotgun to use?
I got lucky on that one, Harbingers don't usually get stunned like that, though the scimitar can and does stun lesser foes. I rarely melee when I have the scimitar equipped unless I know the combo of one shot and one melee will kill something outright. Otherwise it shoots so fast I just unload until it's reload time and then melee. I haven't found big bads like harbingers to be suceptable to melee stuns any way.

I linked a video earlier demonstrating this against a Geth Prime and here it is again.

Now, I'm about a couple of missions away from doing the Collector Ship, so would you guys recommend getting the Claymore, or going for the Assault Rifle spec?

If you use only two rounds to kill something with the Scimitar that will give you just one more kill, but you are pushing your luck at that point. If theres five enemies you are done for.

I haven't seen confirmation on this either way so I figure I'd ask the pros. Doe sthe Evi benefit from any of your research upgrades? I've seen some say it does and some say it doesn't.
Are you talking about normal shotgun upgrades? If so, why wouldn't it? It's a shotgun.
Earlier in the thread someone talks about seeing a noticeable improvement in the Eviscerator after getting shotgun shield piercing. That should be enough confirmation.

Well I'm reading multiple threads from various sites. Here, NeoGAF and others. And was receiving conflicting reports. So I though I'd ask. Because as you pointed out, it woundn't make sense if they didn't I'd just rather be sure before I got much more attached to my Evi.
If you need any more proof, I can tell you right now that the ammo upgrade works. 15 shots without it, 27 with it.

Near the beginning of this vid you can see the Scimitar taking on a Geth Prime:

charge-shotgun-melee shotgun to kill regular enemies. While other people
like ramsen says that with the Evi its just charge-shotgun-melee, and
sometimes it can also one shot enemies. However on Kronner's video he shows that even against collector drones, Evi with inferno still requires the shotgun-melee-shotgun tactic. Or do collector drones just take less damage with shotguns?

The fact that we're all playing at different levels is part of the problem. I think I was level 16 when I made the collector ship video where I usually two shot drones with the scimitar.

I believe the Eviscerator does less damage against shields. We will find out the exact damage multiplier against different protections tomorrow afternoon from the devs.
The number it takes to down enemies should remain constant as long as you pick up weapon upgrades as soon as theyre made available. I was at 3/5 when I took that vid. Level 15, relying on Grunt's squad incendiary ammo.

Not concrete proof, but I saw a big difference from 1/5 Evi to 2/5 +50% shields Evi.

Haven't test the evi at all so I don't know. I downloaded it when I got home from work yesterday morning, but then slept most of the day away and then started an adept playthrough. When I get home maybe I'll do some testing with it on the collector ship if I can access it on my old save.
Have you seen Average Gatsby's "Adepting through Insanity?" It's worth a look.

I just tested the Katana and Evi on an enemy vanguard with a strong barrier and the Katana did slightly more damage to the barrier. I have no idea how many pellets actually hit, but it seems like the Katana has more damage against shields than the Evi. I'm thinking the Evi gets the 50% damage boost to shields, but its base damage to shields just isn't as good.
I think you're right. We'll know for sure tomorrow, but I ran through Jack's recruitment mission and found the Katana fared better than Evi since that's where I pick up the 2/5 damage which unlocks the +50% shields penetration. Aside from that one mission, the Katana kind of feels obsolete... especially since Freedom's progress and Mordin's recruitment mission are vs. all armored enemies with only a few exceptions.

So after reading all this i assume that dropping getting claymore in favour of another weapon, ar or sniper is the way to go?
