In fairness, Kronner, it's going to be a lot more noticeable for you since you roll Claymore.
Yes, but you will see the difference no matter what shotgun you use, not only because of the extra 6% weapon damage, but also because of extra power damage (+15%) - it makes your Inferno Ammo better. I have always been pro-Champion, but recently I started to like Destroyer more. I found out that the extra survavibility of Champion is not really needed.

Or when I stop being psychotic about my dialogue options.
I thought the same, but if you import ME1 character with full Paragon/Renegade bonus (190 points I think), you will not have any problems even if you go Destroyer instead of Champion.

I'm guessing that's true, when I think about all the "almost-oneshots" made with Evi or about the number of enemies left with a tiny bit of health after 2 Scimitar blasts. Going Destroyer might save some precious time by not having to melee to finish enemies.

I could see that for the late-game, but how about early-game pre-upgrades, like during NG+?

There are no cooldown upgrades that work for Charge. Only the passive skill lowers Charge cooldown.
The -20% biotic cooldown does not work for Charge
-5% Archon Visor does not work at all
This means that when you play NG+ your Charge cooldown is lower than when you play standard Insanity until you max passive skill.
The extra 0.3s Champion gets is rarely needed, worst case scenario - you will take more health damage. NG+ is not very different, I play with Claymore basically all the time and one shot one kill happens as soon as you get 2 SG upgrades and the shield/barrier piercing skill. That takes 2 missions (excluding tutorial and FP, Mordin+Jack mission and you got it). Personally, I do not find NG+ any harder than standard Insanity, enemies just take longer to kill when you use SMG/Pistol etc. After Horizon (3 SG upgrades and most important upgrades for your other weapons) NG+ is no longer any different.

I'm up to my 5 (or 6th, I lose count) run on the Collector Ship and I've yet to choose AR since the Firepower pack came out.
I've done Vindicator, Claymore, Viper (and some Incisor) Vanguard runs, but I've yet to play with the Mattock.
What is everyone's opinion on hulking rifle? Much better than the Viper?
I'm debating whether its worth loading up an old AR save and running some missions with the Mattock before choosing for my newest run. Last two runs, I've fallen in love with the Viper so its going to be tough for me to give up that option.
