I am a straight man. I play femshep because I prefer Hale's voice acting.
Have to agree with you on the voice acting. Male Shepard sounds so dead as opposed to female Shepard. I have difficulty keeping awake sometimes when listening to him drone on. Of course, this is my opinion from ME 1, have yet to hear male Shepard in ME 2.
In my opinion he's a lot better in the second game. Sometimes there are certain points where the way he expressed the line was more how I pictured it overall compared to the other.
Both are still epic.

but why are the romance threads regarding the male characters so long?! the ones about garrus and thane. there's quite a lot of posts that are like "garrus is so adorable/cute" or w/e, and most of those are posted by straight males!
yet i cant imagine what is going through the head of somebody who posts those things yet are not attracted to men..

Ok I understand what you guys are saying, that you are just doing it for the story.

...perhaps they are female?

Well if they are going on about how cute they are, they are probably either women or gay. There's plenty of women on here.

Now that you've put your socks back on, don't ask such a silly question.
You don't need to be gay to pursue a fictional relationship in a game with a male, if you're playing a female avatar. Especially in a cinematic game like Mass Effect - You play the role of your character. You're not playing yourself. It's up to you to apply your own values to your character, but please recognise that some people have a more open mind and can explore the literary narrative from any perspective - Not just from their own.

Many straight guys who are confident in their sexuality (...and probably some who aren't, which is awesome too) play the games as fem!Shep, and have no problem with the romances. Thane, Garrus, Kaiden, Jacob are all characters in ME, and like all things, they have their stories. Someone who really wants the full picture of ME will play and romance them to see how that goes and what each part of the story is. They might pop in to those threads, too, to note 'I thought that part was cool/sweet', just like you'll find people only attracted to guys talking about how they thought the Tali romance was cute or Jack's tears were very emotional.
You are, however, underestimating the amount of female players on this forum. There are more woman on the internet then one thinks: a large portion simply don't talk about it to avoid being harassed or getting 'PROVE IT WITH PIX PLZ' nonsense. I can guarantee you that the majority of fan-fiction written for this games is from female writers, certainly, and it's probably similar with art. Bioware's forums are a lot kinder then many other gaming forums (most on which, I go by the handle 'Mikey' and avoid all conversation of gender... heck, I would have done it on this forum if I hadn't made an account when I was like, 14 or something ;; feh). So, yeah, a lot of people doing the 'Garrus is so adorable~!' are just like the people going 'Tali is so adorable~!', only they're gals instead of guys. And if you read those threads for long enough, at least one third of them are people doing some good old fashioned trolling, anyway.

Moron.
Why are there so many f***ing idiots on this message board? Seriously... moths are to flame as idiots are to message boards.

I'm looking at you, Gay Wardens. You still deserve a high five for the epic group name.

Even though I played both fem and guy sheps pretty much the same way, each voice actor added nuances to the part that made each slightly different and added to the color of play through.
But I still think femshep delivers the "because it's a big stupid jellyfish" line (ME1) better than guyshep. It's because of subtle differences like that that us RPGers try out different play styles.

I once possessed a mind with similarity to yours until having ventured into playing the fairer sex and found myself intrigued by the variety, differences and mostly noteworthy the difficulty of roleplaying a female character when I myself am not female and cannot easily relate for obvious reasons. My writing has vastly improved over the years because of my decision to vary. It is neither homosexual or strange to play the role of a character because you are not yourself, you are the character and should base decisions upon how they would react, not how it is you may.

I am a guy, i played Femshep, there is nothing wrong romancing male characters because i do not envision myself blowing jacob or french kissing thane but rather my character is the one doing those acts.pdmeww44 wrote...
i read a lot of posts on this forum about ppl romancing garrus or jacob or w/e, and i'm wondering how many of those ppl are guys? it just seems kind of .. gay.. if youre a man and you play a female character so you could sweet talk another man into bed.
so does this forum just have a disproportional amt of females compared to other gaming forums or ... what? whats going on..
Thats like watching a movie with a female lead and you hope she ends up with thie guy or that guy.

Personally, I think this is an integral part of role playing, and I don't consider it odd any more than I consider playing different alignments odd.

wow HOW AM I IGNORANT?
i alrdy said i have nothing against gay ppl
i just dont see why a STRAIGHT MAN attracted to WOMEN AND NOT TO MEN would want to roleplay as a female to flirt AGRESSIVELY with other men! I've seen the youtube videos, you rly do flirt aggressively!
am i the only one who sees how ridiculous that is?
It is called roleplaying. You know? One of the major parts of the game.
