Finish DA:O first before starting Awakening or not? (No spoilers please)

At this point in time I'm debating whether to make a push to finish DA:O prior to Awakenings release or to just continue at my normal snails pace leaving much of the late game unexplored until I have a dozen or more characters past the half-way point to choose from for my first finish or two.
My question is simply whether or not there are likely to be situations and/or information given to me in the course of playing Awakenings that might spoil things in DA:O for me if I have not finished it yet. I suspect there will be but I have purposely avoided seeking even general information about Awakening thus far to avoid spoilers.
At my current pace it would likely be Mid-summer or even Fall before I got around to finishing DA:O but I might be up for a break by playing Awakenings (with a new character) when it's released but only if doing so would not spoil me for the finish of DA:O.
Again I have not taken any characters all the way through DA:O yet and do not wish to see spoilers for either DA:O or Awakenings!
TIA

Ok I like to stretch my games out by playing multiple characters up to certain levels or break points in the game then going back to bring more characters to that point before moving on.

From the first video of DAA I have already seen a little spoiler about one of the ending of DAO (you can miss it in the video as you don't have explanations but I guess that it won't be the same in the expansion itself).
If I was you, I would finish the game before to play DAA to be sure to avoid any spoiler.

You can do a run in under 30hrs (I think I have a ~20hr completed run), so it's entirely possible to get a run in within the next 6 weeks.

Go for the former. Finish a playthrough with one character, then do what you like with the others you have. It'll give you the opportunity to go into awakenings on release without feeling as if DAO has been spoiled, or that you're missing something.
The benefit of flexibility outweighs pretty much everything else.

DA:O leads to DA:O-A. A lot of DA:O-A will probably not make sense or spoil the end of DA:O unless you complete them in the correct order.

LOL - 20 hour run through?? I spent over 4 hours just taking a fairly low level party through RTO last weekend
(mostly due to a few battles requiring reloads to finish)

If you're planning on finishing an Origins playthrough at some point, I would recommend finishing that before playing Awakening. There would be some spoilers otherwise. As a fellow spoiler hater, I wouldn't want to hear your cries of anger all the way in Edmonton.
Yeah I suspected that was going to be the case.
I guess I'll just see how my current batch of DA:O characters shake out between now and release time. If I get to the point where I'm ready to commit one to finish before Awakenings releases I'll jump right into it and if not I'll just hold off playing it until I do.
After all as long as I stay away from the spoiler forums there's nothing that says I have to start Awakenings the day it releases and in fact there might even be some advantages to starting it a couple months after release when there might be some additional DLC or patches floating around for it.

4hrs? Jeez. I did it at level 11 and level 19 and both times took about an hour each at most. I've no idea how you got 4hrs of playtime out of it with one party :swanderon wrote...

Well first of all I tend to explore every nook and cranny I can get to whether there seems to be anything there or not. I also stop to read journal entries and codex entries as they appear and as I mentioned this team had some reloads -
my PC in this one was a DW rogue but he is more of an RP build than a power build so he only has 2 DW talents right now and the rest of his talents are 3 each in every rogue chain. He was also stil using very basic gear as I recall so reloading several significant battles in RTO means considerably more time than getting through them with one shot.
I also tend to micromanage battles with lots of pause and play and issue orders and since this was a rogue he spent tme scouting then moving back to the team that a party that just powers through would not spend.
In any event I did while away the entire afternoon just on RTO and as it turned out I never found the key to the mages trunk so he still missed one of the primo items in spite of the long playtime!
Looking through some of my other characters saves I have characters that already have 9 hours of playtime just arriving at Lothering so yeah I'm thinking my playstyle is not likely to lead to any 20 or 30 hour playthroughs.

The GF is the same way, I was leaving for work as she was firing it up for the first time. She was still in the Origin mage tower, stuck away in some random corner reading codex entires when I got home. I was just like, "HOw is that even...I just don't...nvm"

Wow, 20 hours. Do you skip side quests? I was telling myself that I was going to do my 4th go through at a quick clip, just to see what happens when a dwarf commoner gets to Orzammar, but I couldn't resist the call of side quests, so I am already veering off to steal swords, slay Kitty, and the like.
Whoops, I was 6hrs off. It was a ~26hr save, and that was most side quests skipped, did a few companion quests, Warden's Keep, skipped Stone Prisoner, RtO wasn't out then... You get the idea. Still a pretty quick run considering my other save is at about 16hrs and I've done only two of the treaty quests.

And play one character to the end. That's like watching Fellowship of the Ring halfway before moving on to the Two Towers in the LotR trilogy. =p

I think it's pretty much impossible doing a run under 20 hours. Or at least, possible if you do only the necessary quests, and if you move FAST. Really, the best I could do was 22, by skipping all dialogues, or quick-talking with some sidequests and ending at level 22. BUT it was my 7th run, so I wouldn't suggest you doing that.
Also, hello there Wanderon. You may not remember me, but I do remember you from the old Baldur's Gate Forums.
Hey dark-lauron! I do indeed recall at least the name from forums past and at my age thats no easy task!
Now would that have been the Bioware BG forums that are still active here:
http://forums.biowar...m.html?forum=19
Or some of the WAY BACK forums like from the period between BG coming out and TOTSC being released soon and BG2 was still a work in progress... IIRC those were the ones that they banned all of AOL from for time when the youngsters got out of control...
As for the whole "speed run" thing my playstyle (and perhaps my outlook on life in general) can be summed up in a story my dad told me about a half century ago and I have told countless times since. (I was recently astounded to hear it used on prime time TV not too long ago but I forget where)
Once upon a time there was a young bull and an old bull walking along a ridge. As they topped a small rise they could see a vast herd of cows in the pasture below.
The young bull looked at them and said - "Hey lets run down there and breed a few cows!"
The old bull snorted and said: "No... Lets WALK down and breed them ALL..."

I prefer to do a quick run first and then a longer one 'cos then I can concentrate on the story more (because then I know roughly how the game works, although I'm always finding new things) and as such I'd enjoy it.
Still think you should finish 'vanilla' Origins before you tackle Awakening for a lot of reasons
