As the title of the topic suggests, I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on the best custom armour options for each class.  I'm struggling to come up with a combination I like for my Adept, but I do have one for my soldier.

Soldier:

Chest: Shield Harness
Shoulders: Asymmetric Defense Layer
Arms: Off-hand Ammo Pack
Legs: Ordinance Packs

I look forward to hearing everyone's opinions.  Discuss away!

Wouldn't the Aegis chest and lifesupport legs be better? Hardenened only slows down health I've heard (i'm not a soldier could be wrong).

Well the Shield Harness boosts shields (obviously) and the Asymmetric Defense Layer boosts health the same amount as the Aegis Vest. The Off-hand Ammo Pack boosts normal ammo 10%, useful as soldier as you have no tech or biotic powers to throw around which is something I sometimes miss as a primarily Adept player. The Ordinance Packs are there to add more ammo to heavy weapons.

Not to mention the combination looks good too.

I suppose I'm most interested in good combinations for Adepts that work well with the class and look aesthetically good too. I've noticed some of the armour options look goofy.

EDIT: And this discussion is purely in relation to the N7 Armor, not interested in Terminus (which I don't have), Collectors (which I do) or Blood Dragon (which I do).

Out of sheer curiosity..

Why do you use the N7 Armor ? I played the whole Game in Collector's Armor, as it has good starting boni.

Is N7 the only upgradable ? If yes, I was a frigging idiot the whole time, wasn't I ?

N7 is the only customizable armour, though I suspect all the pre-order armours are generally more specialized and provide better bonuses in their areas overall than any non-heavily specialized N7 combo would.

You can't customize any of the pre-order/bonus armors. They all have respectable bonuses however the N7 can outclass them in the stats department once you start purchasing various armor pieces (as the N7 has 5 different "slots" for various upgrades whereas all the bonus armor I've seen only has 3 bonus attributes), and you can customize what combination of bonuses you get that way too.

on topic though the visor that adds +10% headshot damage is a must have item for anyone using a sniper rifle. That and I found the off-hand ammo pack to be too useful to consider anything else for the "gauntlet" armor slot.

the CE armours are more powerful than the default armours can be made, but you can't see your face. there definitely needed to be more armour/weapon customisation options though, this is supposed to be half RPG half FPS, and when Assassins Creed 2 has more customisation than a supposed RPG you know something aint right. that said, the customisation available can be made to look really badass.

So getting back to the original point of the topic, what N7 combinations do you use and what class are you playing as?

ah yes, knew i'd forgot something. playing as vanguard most of the time, so its +shields anywhere i can get them, the only place that doesnt give shields (i think) is shoulders, so there its the melee dmg ones. also, the +10% headshot is definitely a good choice, as after a charge you're automatically aiming at their face.

So even with the Vanguard you aren't a big fan of the Amplifier Plates (+5% Power Damage) on your shoulders? Wouldn't that make your biotics, including Charge, do more damage?

as a VG all my dmg comes from my shotty, shockwave i "never" use, and pull only when i've charged around a bit and taken down multiple peoples defences and i'm taking a breather in cover. the dmg from charge is virtually non existent on protection, and on someone without protection they go far away, quite often off of the map (which is annoying for ammo scrounging purposes). but yeah, as i said, all the dmg is weapon based, plus a melee, it goes charge>melee>shotty, rinse and repeat.

My Sentinel on Insanity wore:

N7 Helmet - Increases health by 5%

Aegis Vest - Increases health by 5%

Asymmetric Defense Layer - Increases health by 5%

Heavy Damping Gauntlets - Increases shields by 5%

Life Support Webbing - Increase health by 10%

How many players prefer to boost their health rather than shields? Isn't health the final resort?

Personally I hate the look of the Heavy Damping Gauntlets and Life Support Webbing. Too chunky and too many wires, same with the Stabilization Gauntlets.

I know this post is not about the DLC armors, but I was never able to find any combination of custom options for my adept that could match the 15% power damage bonus on the Blood Dragon Armor. Did I miss a custom option somewhere? I am not a big fan of the look of the Blood Dragon Armor, I just couldn't give up the extra power damage bonus.

No, you didn't miss anything. The maximum power damage bonus on the N7 armour is 8%, from the N7 chestplate and Amplifier Plate shoulders.

Actually I liked the look of those items, which was the main reason I used them. Not sure if ultimately increasing shields only would have been better, but it worked out fine as it was.

errm, its actually 13%, using the dr pepper dlc helmet, which can be obtained through morally dubious ways, google it. its possible to get all three helmets, one does 5%wep dmg, one does 5% tech/biotic dmg, and one does 5% shields.

Not to mention as a Sentinel you have Tech Armour which is basically a massive increase in shields anyway isn't it?

That too yes. I can't give you any numbers if going with maxed out shields instead would have been better.

I suspect it wouldn't be as high on the Tech Armour. I believe it would be a 13% shield increase using all the shield boosting gear. Probably hardly a scratch on the Tech Armour.

That's not entirely right:

Umbra Visor

N7 Chest Plate

Amplifier plates

For 13 Percent power bonus. That still leaves 2 other pieces for other bonusses.

If you want Weapon Damage:

Recon Hood

N7 Shoulder Guards

Stabilizing Gauntlets

13 Percent weapon Damage increase

Shields -

Sentry Interface

Shield harness

Heavy damping Gauntlets

N7 Greaves

18 Percent Shield increase leaves slots open for other bits.

Health:

N7 Helm

Aegis Vest

Assymetrical Defence layer

N7 Gauntlets

Life support Webbing

28 Percent increase in life - this is actually pretty damn good.

Three of those sections utilize DLC items that are only available with the Dr. Pepper promotion, a promotion that is not available anywhere outside of the United States. Seeing as I'm British, those items are pretty irrelevant when it comes to thinking about armour. Not to mention I don't wear any head gear anyway.
