Ahahaha, sorry about the title of this thread. And sorry if this thread already exists. Seriously, can someone tell me how to do a search on forum topics here?

Anyway, I'm near the end of the game but I want to get a bit of levelling up done. Sadly darkspawn don't seem to spawn, or at least--I haven't seen any. Does anyone know any good places to get a lot of fighting done so I can level up a little more?

Steal & get caught in Denerim Marketplace. Then keep travelling around Denerim & you'll keep running into Denerim Guards random encounter, who are looking for warden thieves. Tough Fight though. The toughest Radom encounter I've faced so far.

Buy a bunch of stacks of elfroot and donate them to the elf representative in camp. You get xp for donating to any of your armies: the dwarves take certain gems, the elves take crafting components, the mages take runes, and the Redcliffe soldiers take gold straight up. Since you have little control over how many runes and gems you find during the game, the elfroot is the easiest way to go, since it's available in unlimited quantities. And it's cheaper than giving gold to the Redcliffe soldiers.

@JosieJ: thanks, I've been wondering what good it is to give stuff to the armies :)

There's also some rare, and super rare encounters you may not have triggered travelling on the world map.

@Moirah: no problem!
[br]
@ TC: I'd do both: the elfroot route to level up quickly, and the stealing route just for the sheer fun and challenge of the combat!

I would find running around Ferelden killing guard or donating tons of stuff just to get XP pretty lame and boring. I would definatly just use the console to level up or use the Mountaintop XP glitch :-)

Buy elfroot ... lots of it. Give it to the allied supply chests in your camp. Very boring but grants tons of XP. Went from level 15 to 20 last night with 10 gold.

Mountain top glitch is that you get 750 XP every time you enter or leave the gauntlet in the sacred ashes quest. Can't rember which & may be both, but if you keep going in and out the door you will get XP.

If you got an hour + to burn you could probably reach level 25.

This glitch is for PC version PS3 or Xbox? Cheesy but tempting, I didn't know about stealing in Denerim though, who do you steal from? Or is it any vendor?

I now the mountain top glitch can be donw on pc.  You can use any of the 3 doors and it doesn matter if you taint the ashes or not or kill everyone or not.

It's definitely chessy and boring.  You only get the bonus entering the mountain top.  You can't get it going out.

Well I tried that on my PS3 and no extra XP. Tried staling too, but nobody chased me. Arghh, seriously there is nowhere to grind in this game!

Those guards are all only worth 12 exp, if I remember correctly.

It's not possible to grind in DAO because there's a limited number of quests and enemies that don't respawn. Basically everything you do that earns experience is unrepeatable.

Axameter? Remind me? Is that the evil thing in Denerium? I have a question, this is my first time playing--so I set it to causal--don't judge me--hahaha. Does this mean you don't level up as fast? I'm only level 19, but I have done every quest I can think of--cept for the crows---and opened every book, yadda. Maybe being on causal means you don't level up as fast? Which makes no sense to me?

Axameter is an axe that comes from a very very rare encounter.

I think leveling is all the same.  It seems like it is to me.  Have you made choices not to to fight in some areas?

15-20 is the Bioware "expected" level with no DLC. I would guess 18-23 with all the DLC.
