what is an RPG. you'll get alot of answers from alot of people about that, and most are ture. i'll try to break it down for you. here i'll list the basic RPG elements.
1) story: the most important part of the RPG(or any game/book/movie for that matter) without the story as a back drop, there is nothing.(for examples of good story telling, pick up the longest journey game.)
2) PC; the PC stands for player character(*points* thats you) normaly you make your character the way you want him/her. some times you don't. the character has to have a story behind him/her( see 1) made by you or someone else you wont feel any thing if there is not a background story to the character.
3) NPC: non player characters( characters/mosters/enemies) that are not controled by the player. some are here to help you. some not so much. again with out a story behind each and every one of them(how they came to be or why the way they are.) you can't really feel into the game and play your character.
4) weapons, items, and other goodies: a hero need's tools to kill a dragon or that basterd that poisoned your drink or the ex that took your money called your work to say your sick, getting you fired and and......
sorry got off track there. any way these things are needed for you to complete missions/quests. 5) you: games can't do all the work. it's up to you to make the game what it is. if not than it just turns into a movie/book
6) Fun. some games and funner then other. some are just batty bull****. it depends on the people playing them(see 5) the game need you draw you in and forget you live with your grandmother:unsure:(though that has it's rewards *takes cookie*)
all these numbers are the key for great RPGs(and other styile of games) with out them, you'll have jack. and jack isn't jumping over any candle sticks any more........i really need to stop talking in medaphors.
ps: yes i know my grammar sucks. but as i say there is no wrong way to suck.....so long as i'm not the one doing it.
