Not really... I already ruined Oblivion by installing too many mods.

The only mod I've installed is 'character respecialization', because I realized that my character sucked and I didn't want to start again from the beginning.

I think I'll consider that storage mod, though. It would be really useful...

the mods that i use are : improved atmoshere, forced deathblows, advanced tactics, icons project, no decaying corpses, gear racks and chest ,helm removal , arcane warrior casting fix...

i just prefer a more aesthetic mode than gameplay/item mod although impr.atmosphere alters some items to be a little more usable

I've only used the stroage chest (just because travelling back and forth to pick up that sword/armor that I couldn't equip b4 is annoying and an unnecessary waste of time) mod and the dialogue tweaks to fix some of the bugs.

there are a coupld of others I'm looking into, but I don't want to add so many mods or mods that it totally changes what the game was supposed to be, or make it easier.

I do want the more hairstyles mods, but I looked through some of them and I thought "eh" really, would a female warrior/rogue be wandering about camping with long hair that's not in braids/pulled back or with long bangs (might get in way of vision)? Probbaly not.....so I'm still thinking about it, I might for when I play a mage.....and just to add some variety, but being a practical person IRL, I just can't see a wandering warrior actually having some of the modded hairstyles.....(although i do think they look cool)

Aside from the camp party chest, the most useful one I have installed is the Extra Dog Slot. Dog becomes a 5th party member in your summoning slot. Can be dismissed with an included dog whistle.

I also found the character re-spec mod quite useful.  Helped me out when I realized I made poor level up choices 5 levels back, and let me try out some other interesting combinations (such as changing Morrigan from a shapeshifter to high emphasis on Entropy spells, and making Leliana specialize in trap setting, lock picking, and stealth).

I also have Dog Gift Tweaks (giving dog his special presents gives boosts to stats, instead of nothing), Better Sex Cutscenes (haven't seen this in action yet), Grey Warden Runic Armor, Dalish Elven Boots fix (gives you the correct loot from the cabinet in the Lothering chantry).

Stay away from Gift of Andraste, it's a bunch of overpowered mage armor & items (despite the description saying it's "balanced"), and one of the items is downright broken and makes you totally immune to damage.

This was a fun thread (I bookmarked it) where people listed what their must-have mods are:

http://social.biowar.../9/index/616328

Ones I personally use is the chargen compilation (makes a lot of chargen mods work together), the dialogue tweaks one, the natural bodies mod and the one that gives you extra tactics slots (so I micromanage teammates less).

What safe and reliable source is there for mods?

Uhm, I've used several from both the projects listed here on this site and from the Dragon Age Nexus. I generally search by most popular though; if they have lots of good ratings, they should be safe. :)

Having installed a bunch (mostly cosmetic, though) I've yet to have them mess up anything for me.

I heard they can mess up new patch downloads for the game.

-shrug- It's possible. In that case I'd just uninstall, patch, reinstall. As I said though, most of mine are purely cosmetic so there really shouldn't be an issue there.

But if you uninstall, wouldn't you lose your characters?

Also, is there any mod that give capes?

I'm not using any. I'd feel guilty like I was cheating or something. Even if all it did is altered how something looked I'd still feel guilty.

Oh,
I meant uninstall the mod, not the game. But I'm fairly certain I
patched with several cosmetic mods installed and I've beaten the game
twice since then. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

I don't quite see why wanting to have, say, more Native American looking skintones would possibly make anyone feel guilty. :? But to each their own, I guess.

Nope, I don't.

I've had a look around mod sites (Fallout 3, NWN, Oblivion, Dragon Age etc) and they're either stupidly complex to install or nothing appeals to my tastes. No, thank you *Game*Nexus, I don't want my Fallout 3 character to look like an anime character who's just had a cranial expansion and nor do I want my Dragon Age character to have hair that looks like it's from some JRPG.

Horses for courses, indeed, but I would be interested in mods if more people made ones that made sense. 'cos we all know 21st century weapons and LCD TVs make complete sense in Fallout, amirite?

I'd still play the game without mods, but it's very nice. I mainly use small tweaks to get rid of those stupid super power auras during conversations. That's really the only one I would be nerdraging if I lost. I also like some of the ones that add more options to the character creator. Naked bodies, forced deathblows, etc are all nice but just icing on the cake.

I'm not into totally overhauling game mechanics unless I just find them to be flatout horrible, like Oblivion. Now THERE'S a game that's hardly worth touching without mods.

Oh alright, silly question of me though. :pinched:
Though i do agree that mods can be really useful. Besides that, I  am more interested in cosmetic mods as well.

I beat the game 4 times without mods, but I added the no follower auto-level for my 5th and subsequent. Nice to be able to play with any characters I want without having to worry about filling particular party roles (even if I have used 2-handed tanks on more than one occasion.)

I am one of those people who spent hundreds of hours trying to fit together mods that don't conflict with each other when I was playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. The modding scene hasn't quite picked up for this game but when and if it does I will be happy to do it all over again.

I'm tempted to fix this in my mod, since I feel that more abilities should shut off outside of combat than the few that do.

The Personal Annoyance Remover handles it by having the auras be visible only for a few seconds after activation. After that, you still have the power on and pay the upkeep, but you don't have the aura. I'd rather it just turn them off during dialogue scenes (since that is what really irks me about it) as I don't really mind looking at them *in combat*, but it's the cleanest solution I've seen so far.

Having everything shut down the way Berserk and Blood Magic do might be a bit tedious, some of the characters I run don't have much up, others have like 4 or 5 or even 6 going at all times towards the end of the game.

Mods are personal tweaks that I'm grateful that people have made... and very well-made might I add. They add a better experience to what's not already there and I definitely use them. Dialogue Tweak is my favorite so far along with the many of the Character Creation add-ons like more colors and hairs (Pineapple Vibrant Colors and More Hairstyles are great).

The only problem that really bugs me is that some aren't organized into their own subfolder so you end up with lots of files in the override and you don't know what they're for especially if you extract more than one mod at once. Also not getting them to conflict with other mods is also another issue, but once you fix that it's all good. Overall, mods are useful, amazing, and great.

I use some mods to make things look a little nicer, but in general I'm not a fan of not messing with the mechanics. I pretty much liked the game mechanics as they were.

Plus I (shameless plug mode on) play with my own quest mod (see sig) installed too. :-)  (shameless plug mode off)

Well hehe i suppose the own mod makes the most fun. But i get mostly cosmetic mods and it is really worth it. In these cases you can chooose. Like it or not. And with the addin system in DA you can avoid clashing with the main campaign pretty well.

I don't recommend mods for the first time through.

However, once you have played through the game once without any mods, you will know what mods you want to download.

Whether it's cosmetic, gameplay balance, additional equipment, you'll know what you want.

I personally prefer Dragon Age Nexus over Bioware Social Network.

Because they allow NEW mods to have a fighting chance.  Whereas in Bioware Social Network, new mods are buried in a pile and older mods get all the credit.
