Here is the solution I figured out, it will save you a little time and some
sanity.
 
If you want to figure it out yourself, stop reading
now..........
 
 
 
 
Looking forward at the pit from left to right,
bottom to top numbering the pressure plates 1-6 on the left and 7-12 on the
right.
 
 
 
6        12
5        11
4        10
3          9
2          8
1          7
 
 
1) Start off by putting 3 people on plates  3,
6 and 8. 
 
This will materialize the first 2 sections of
bridge across the pit, move the forth across the span, standing on the
2nd.
 
2) Now move the person standing on plate 3 to plate
10, then move the person on plate 8 to plate 1.
 
Move forward.
 
3) Now move the person on 6 to 7, then 10 to 11
and finally 7 to 2.
 
Move forward.
 
Now your 4th party member should be across the
bridge and the puzzle solved, the bridge will then become solid so the rest of
the members can come across.

Thank you! I managed to figure both this and shale's puzzle out on my own te first time around, and as fun and satisfying as it was to finish it all on my own brain power, Id rarther not spend 30 min on it a second time
