Why choose Morinth

On the one hand, you have a very power and loyal Asari Justicar who has sworn to obey your command. On the other hand you have a very powerful and unpredictable sex murderer who clearly cannot be trusted. Why on earth would you make that choice? I cannot come up with anything that doesn't turn my Shepard into a stupid, naive idiot. It would be okay I you could actually play Shepard as being extremely stupid and naive and incompetent, but since you can't, that doesn't feel right.
Can anyone come up with a good in-game reason that will justify choosing Morinth? A reason that a smart Shepard can use.

"If Shepard is mostly Renegade, Samara comments that if she wasn't bound to Shepard by the oath, their meeting would have ended in violence. Otherwise she simply says that if Shepard makes her do something that goes against her Code, she will kill the Commander after their mission is over."
So if you are a Renegade, the confrontation in the apartment is an ideal opportunity to dispose of a potential future adversary.

A not so serious reason: Death sex fetish.

A serious reason: A heavily renegade Shepard would do alot of things that would push Samara's "kill them now for great justice!" buttons. It may not so much be about picking Morinth as about not having to watch your back around Samara, while still having the super biotic powers on tap.

But you'd still end up with the crazy murderer who might very well try to kill you (or your crew), or just bolt from the all-important mission

This. Also if you choose Morinth you unlock both Dominate and Reave at the same time, but you only get Reave if you choose Samara.

Because a Renegade player's dubious morals doesn't really sit right with Samara. She said something along "If you keep acting dishonourably I will have to kill you once my oath to you is at an end" [Paraphrased].Taura-Tierno wrote...

So choosing Morinth is, and the irony is not lost on me, for the purpose of survival.

Or is it perhaps the most serious reason of all?

What about actually believing Morinth? Believing that she represents the genetic destiny of the Asari, their future development? All you have to do is believe Morinth a little bit and disbelieve Samara a little bit and you can pull it off. (The player knows Samara is "good" and Morinth is "evil", but that doesn't mean the character has to.)Can anyone come up with a good in-game reason that will justify choosing Morinth? A reason that a smart Shepard can use.

Does Morinth have a loyalty quest or is she like auto loyal or anything like that?
Recruiting her is the loyalty quest, she doesn't give you anything further. It's a little disappointing.

I played through both scenes of the fight and Morinth pretending to be Samara just creeped me out.

In short, no, I don't see an in-game reason for taking Morinth unless your shep is just a really mean/powerful sort who successfully resists her and then wants to keep her as a trophy.

Zaheed: "What are you doing down here asari?"
Morinth: "just venting some trash."
Zaheed: "mmm that cube looked a lot like yeoman chambers"

a super powerful biotic with no moral code who can MELT YOUR BRAIN? now that's even more useful.
if you think of them as weapons against collectors and bad people in general, a crazy psycho sex murderer could be really useful. outside of that? keep her in grunt's tank or something so she doesn't mess with your crew. it's crazy... but insomnia does that to you...
