It's not my place to question why you attack others' intelligence on the internet.
All I know is that you do. And it comes of like you feel threatened/defensive.
I'm not attacking anyone's intelligence. I'm attacking people that say accomplishment in academia is not an indicator of intellect. Even though which it actually is. If anything, I'm defending someone else's intellect.
No, you primarily seem to feel that, since you have a degree, you should be held in higher esteem than one who does not. The process of aquiring a degree is very tedious, and requires little more than massive amounts of studying. I've talked with some doctors, and they make it very clear that, prior to their internship, they really don't learn much of anything beyond how to bubble in the right answer.

Of course not. There are a lot of diploma mills out there. Where you get the degree counts.

I basicaly argue that succes in the academia is an indicative of commitment and hard work, not necessarily intelligence.

...Which brings us back to situation GWB. Face it, there are quite a few people out there who have bought their way through college. It's impossible to know if they fall into the camp of "Hey, I can spell my name!" or "George W. Bush, spelled G.O.R.G.E. D.U.B.Y.A. B.O.O.S.H."

I'm not going to argue that. There are exceptions but generally most people get it done on merit.

I wish to add to the rage. Was anyone aware that George "the big W" Bush holds a degree from both Yale and Harvard. His highest being the MBA from Harvard.
It's been verified that he was a poor student. The only reason he gained admission to those schools was because his daddy was the CIA chief. It's nepotism at its worst. Most people that get into those schools do so on merit though. Dubya was the exception.

no. you're trying to say having a degree automatically means you're smart. we say no and someone points out bush. you basically say everyone but bush is smart because they have degrees. that is a sweeping generalization and hypocritical at the same time because you completely ignore your argument when discussing bush. being book smart does not make you an intellectual. there is a lot more to it.Wrath of Doom wrote...

Hey, now, bz. We were able to keep our discussion fairly civil. Most of the disagreement's problems came from the internet's bad habit of not translating vocal inflections. Sometimes people type things in a certain tone, but then they are read in a completely different tone that people might find hostile.

Originally, it was because all of them were degrading into flamefests, so it was determined that all parties needed to have a cool off period, so to speak. Notice they were allowed a couple of months later, at least in the old Dragon Age forums.

But if all gay romance threads turn into flame fests, that kinda supports the 'not the friendliest place on earth' assessment.
I blame the fire.
