I know this isn't really a technical question about Mass Effect 2 itself, but I really don't know what to do...

Earlier today I was going to start playing some more Mass Effect, and when I put Disc 2 in, the game tells me that it's unreadable, so I go to check it and find some really deep lines carved across it... It seems that my Xbox scratched up the disc somehow and it won't work any more.....

I have no idea what to do at this point... this is really ****ing depressing........... Image IPB

That means that likely your laser(sp? I can never remember if its a z or s) is dirty and trying to focus, overfocuses, and comes too high and therefor scratches the disk. Go get your XBox repaired by a local expert (my dad does it for a living in the Hampton Roads area of VA). You'll just have to go buy a new disk, sorry.

i got a problem with my disc aswell, got the collectors edition but its more a problem with the case for holding the disc. my disc now has a crack in it. from putting it in the holder and taking it out. im careful with all my games i got so they dont get scratch or damaged. the holder just aint friendly on the discs. so stuck it in another box, so far its just cracked the inner plastic ring, i just hope it wont spread or il end up screwed aswell.

Yea the packaging on the CE looks very very cool, but that top disc is a b**ch to get out,and my Xbox trashed my DA:O Collector's Edition Disc,I am pissed,I took it to a local shop to see if he could buff the disc a very little to get it to work again, hopefully it does.

and my system is only played by me no kids,it NEVER gets moved or bumped, and ALL game discs are handled with care, this just sux.

Like I said, if there is dust on the laser, it could overfocus, leading to scratching.

So is there a way to clean the lens? do those DVD player cleaners work?

Well, it requires nullifying any warranty you may have with microsoft and they can be difficult to do. Not even half as straightforward as the original XBox console. If you can get to it without tearing apart your system (i'd recomend getting someone who already knows wat they're doing to do this otherwise you might screw stuff up, I've seen it a lot), then all you really need to do it take cleaning alcohol and a q tip and wipe the lense and then dry it with the dry end of the q-tip.
