Is there a glitch with Reave?

It seems like it's not recognizing the double damage for Barriers or Armor.

Reave does damage over time. besides, its more accurate to say Reave does half damage to shields.

I'm aware of both facts but if you look you try Reave on Barriers, it does initial damage then it just stops. It doesn't seem to be doing the amount of damage it should be.

Reave does all of its overall damage instantly against protection (armor, barrier, shields). It only does DoT for its health.
Meaning that its essentially Warp against protection, and a DoT ability with CC elements against health that boosts your own health (assuming organic, which is most of the time as geth are uncommon in ME2 in comparison to ME1).

This is what I found too, though it could be because I favour lower difficulties. To put it simply, I find it tears through armour and Barriers with astounding ease.

When I was using it on Insanity, it seemed that Heavy Warp was doing more damage than Reave which from a pure points standpoint, Reave should do more.

All damage over time effects do full damage immediately to armor, barrier, and shields

Ok that explains that, thanks Christina. Now can anybody explain why Reave might do less damage than Warp(only barriers and armor discussion)?

From what I've seen of Heavy Reave, it actually does significantly more than Heavy Warp. Which is supported by what Christina says, since it does 220 base damage * 1.2 duration bonus from upgrade = 264 damage. In essence it should do around 1/3 more damage, which is what I observed.
This is the reason why some Adept players prefer Heavy Reave for their insanity run throughs as their bonus skill, as it is superior in terms of damage plus it has the effect of stagger and heals your life if target is organic. Only drawback is it does not curve, but at least its instant travel time to compensate.
That said, I prefer Area Reave since I just love AoE'ing clumps. With duration upgrade, its actually almost as powerful as Heavy Warp.

Actually Reave should do somewhere around 400 damage against armor and barriers and I just haven't seen anything like that.

generally i use area reave over heavy reave, and heavy warp does just a bit more dmg on insanity, which is what i'd expect.

Hmm, it's these little comments and non documented things that can make a huge difference to abilities used.
We need a nice sticky thread with things like this in
