I largely agree with OP, though we know that you cannot import a game where Shep died. I don't see this as being negative. It's not just that Bioware could have the whole squad return; the question is should they. ME 3 might be more story focused, but so was ME 1, and meeting those new characters and getting to know them is part of what made that game so good.
I really wouldn't worry about this guys. ME 1 was a great game. ME 2 was a great game even if it didn't transfer your squad over (imo that choice made it a better game).
To all of you who believe your favorite character(s) from ME2 will be joining you in ME3......

Mhhh...Shepard should have enough money to bring back all of the Squad-Mates with Lazarus-Projects.
Just talk to the food-machine at the warehouse on the citadel.
It states, Commander Shepard drinks the stuff it sells, given by licenses of the alliance military.
Since Shepard is alive, he/she should get a whole lot of money for the abuse of his/her name.
Otherwise, I agree that the Chars will likely make just cameos if you import them.
Maybe important cameos, but I don't think more than some cut-scenes and maybe a sidequest will be involved.
