Hey, OP, there is a fascinating lecture series by John McWhorter titled "Story of Human Language." I would highly recommend it for someone that seems as interested in the rules of language as you.

Now, the most important part of language is to communicate. So if I understand what you mean and you understand what I mean despite differing pronunciations, language has done its job. Also, language evolves on practically a daily basis - the "correct" version is whatever the most people use.

At this point, the entire thread hinges on the debate of semantics. Regardless of what is or what isn't the correct pronunciation, it should be accepted that, at this stage, it's a little too late to change it.

It is what it is.

Yes, it evolves everyday, but that does not mean it has no standardized version... but I can see where you are going with this, especially when several smart kids I know can't write proper sentences in their English exams or tests, much less their spelling and pronunciations.

Different regional pronounciations have nothing to do with laziness.  When a particular set of people speaks chiefly with one another they will develop practices distinct to that group.   Sometimes this produces dialects* that are very difficult for people who speak other dialects to understand, thus increased mobility and interaction over wider areas tends to homogenize language.  The idea of a 'legitimate' dialect of absurd.  Who declares what is legitimate or illegitimate?  Who is the arbiter of right or wrong?  Why obey whoever declares what is legimate or is the arbiter of right and wrong?

Standards indeed might exist, but so what?  In the United States there is no officially set standard, which is just as well because in France an academy devoted to setting a standard for French indeed exists, but its efforts are almost comically futile: the French spoken on the streets of Paris sounds rather unlike the official standard.  Human language is, in a manner of speaking, the ultimate free market , being both the product of self-organized, unplanned human interaction and almost impossible to effectively regulate.

*It should be noted that there is no formal, rigorous distinction between dialect and language.  The term dialect is used subjectively, often for some other purpose, such as the insistence by the Chinese government that Mandarin and Catonese are dialects, despite their not being very mutually intelligible and differing quite starkly in some ways.

As long as we're talking about irrational rules, let's remember the case of poor Chief Justice Roberts, who botched Obama's oath ceremony because he couldn't bring himself to say something that even sounded like a split infinitive.

I have always pronounced the word how it is pronounced in the game. So has pretty much everyone else I have heard use the word.

That doesn't change the fact that you are wrong.. :/...

How are you not banned yet, you're the most blatant, obvious troll I have ever seen. Not to mention the worst.

Get over yourself, you're wrong. Period.

Anyone else notice how Fereldan is mispronounced? It should be FEE-reldan.

I rather like the eemon pronunciation of Eamon's name, though aymon would have been cooler. Heck, I just like the name.

When it comes to golem, however, I'm not too concerned, since English takes words from lots of different cultures. Some words are Anglicized in pronunciation, and some retain their original pronunciation. It's how English continues to grow as a language.

This reminds me of the pronunciation of Eomer and Eowyn in LOTR movies. They use ay-o. The correct pronunciation of eo is actually close to ear. That means that Theodred is pronounced Theardred. Thearden, Earmer and Earwyn which is actually quite similar to Arwyn.

Ok.. it's a little thing.. but it is kinda annoying....

The word 'Golem' SHOULD be pronounced with a long 'o' as in 'goal'.. but it's being pronounced with an 'o' as in 'orange'.. as per Smeagol's nom de guerre in LOTR.

They aren't the same word.

I'm confused.

Either you typed the same pronunciation at us twice,
or you say "orange" in a very weird fashion.
