Please no laughing or sniggering,     im a "casual gamer"   and i've  never played an RPG before,  i know some purists here may not consider ME2  as a true RPG but bear with me.  So i  just started playing pc version of game and have effectively  treated it as i would a standard shooter ( i try & do all the fighting )
I've managed to work out how to hack security devices and couple other minor things but now got to Freedom Progress base place  and a big mech thing shows up , so despite a few tries i keep dying , so basically  ( i said no laughing ) how do i use all those squad options RPG thingys/powers.
What im trying to ask,  is  there a simple guide/tutorial i can use to help me, i know theres some in game tips but is there something i can watch outside of game ?
I appreciate that 99% of people on this forum are probably semi or full on hardcore players and actually will laugh at this post but any possible help/advice im grateful for,   i picked Infiltraitor as my class if that maybe effects anyones replies thanks

I'm not laughing at this post.

First things first, what difficulty are you on? That will make a huge difference. And secondly, have you leveled up your character accordingly? Also as for that mech, you can use Miranda I believe to overload his shields which will help you out (again, depending on difficulty).

All in all they are supposed to be hard. If you have any grenades left in your launcher use them. As for powers, what class are you?

Thanks

I'm assuming you're serious and not just trying to troll so here I go.

If you want to watch outside footage of the game there are several "Let's Play Mass Effect 2" videos on youtube, by many different people.

Just search that and browse the videos there. You'll be able to see exactly what these players do (powers the use, weapons, etc) as they play the game.

*spoilers*

To give you advice on that particular part, just make sure you use Miranda's overload and your SMG to take down it's shields. For the armor just switch to the regular pistol and use any powers you have that are good against armor (reading the power descriptions tells you whats good against what). Once you get it's armor off just a couple more bullets into it and it'll be dead.

If you need to find a good "Let's Play" for the game on Youtube. This guy (http://www.youtube.com/user/Toegoff) has a good channel setup and has the complete playthrough of the game. He is playing the PC version as well and actually describes what he's doing as he does it.

I'd say his videos would definitely be good for you as you are still learning the game.

As an infiltrator you will want to make use of your fire bomb and sniping ability. Also you can cloak in an emergency and run for cover.

Try putting your squadmates behind cover and distract the mech while you shoot him from afar. The main mode of operation for infiltrator is sniping, so distance and good locations are your ally. Try to get headshots, and after his shield is gone you only need to take his armor off before he's already a deadrobot. His health drops really fast.

There are three simple informative videos in game that be watched through Shepard's private terminal. It exlains how to use squad powers and combo them with your own and how to map powers for quick access so you don't have to pause the game and select powers and target enemies.

On the xbox I have the left and rght button on dpad mapped, right and left bumper mapped, so I can give commands in battle without ever having to pause.

I was an Infiltrator as well. Best thing possible is to make good use of Mirana's Overload ability and your own Tactical Cloak to pull back and snipe the Loki Mech. Aim for the Red Circle in the middle of its head. Be careful though, it will create a big explosion.

It's really pretty simple. You just pull up the pause menu and look at their options.

You haven't said whether you are playing on PC or 360. I play on PC; on PC you hit Left Shift to bring up the pause menu. Not sure what the control is on a 360, but I'm 99.9% certain it has the same pause menu.

The pause menu is basically divided into two fields. The top half of the pause menu shows all the actions and weapons that are available to you.

Below that is the bottom half, which show the actions and weapons available to your party members. One of your party members will have his/her actions/weapons on the left, and the other on the right. There will be little thumbnails of the party members on the left and right to show who is on which side.

The action icons will have pop-ups, so if you don't know what they mean, hover your mouse over them. Just highlight the one you want them to use and your squaddie will go to town. While the pause screen is open, you can assign actions to each of your squadmates and even to yourself all at the same time, then unpause and your orders will be carried out.

Without going into detail, some actions work well against shields, some against barriers, some against armor. Not infrequently you will have some idea before you go to a planet what kinds of enemies you will mainly see. If so, then put members into your party who have specials that work against that enemy's defenses (e.g., shields for geth). If you don't know, or if you will be hitting various kinds of enemies, take a balanced party with specials against all 3.
