Yes, he completely sucked.

Then the Desire Demon used Spell Shield totally shutting me down.

Aha, had to set the difficulty to easy when I used him - I just wanted to see what happens if he's the one to save Connor.

I'm just going to say, weakest mage ever indeed... how a spell caster can manage to suck in this game, is beyond me. xD

He was only level 10 though, I guess he'd have had more spells if I did that quest later in the game.

Doesn't help.  I did it mid teens and he still sucked.

On nightmare she makes herself become spell immune with that shiled.  I got her to a sliver of health too and then she activated the shiled and wiped the floor with me.  I couldn't even kite her.

It was a good challenge *shrugs* I like a challenge. He is only level 10 and had no healing spells or potions. I was kinda disapointed his quest didn't include him as a party member afterwards--or at least his freedom. He just kinda vanishes--bring him back bioware!

Pleae don't.  He was too much of a whinny baby for me.  I woulda killed him at the Circle if I had the chance.  B)

Its no shocker that I'm a Jowan fan *shrugs* but the fact you don't know what happens to him is kinda...fustrating, story wise.

that spell shield was so frustrating. she was already resisting his life drain and paralysis spells 50%of the time, but once the shield was up it was game over. :crying: and yeah kiting isn't very effective against someone who can knock you down with a glyph of repulsion and put you under an horror spell.

Both Jowan and Irving suck at this thing.

Irving seems like he does some serious ownage during the Archdemon fight.  He's the only mage that seems to survive besides my companions.

I...didn't have any problems with him. Only on normal though. Did you remember to use the lyrium veins?

On nightmare, using Jowan is...well, a nightmare. I like to do it because it gives him a shot at redemption, but man oh man is this the hardest fight in the game. Particularly 'cause you can't even bring over any health pots.

He sure does suck, I was able to do the last fight on Normal after only one reload. Judicious use of Blood Magic and the two available lyrium veins are all that got me through. And casting paralyze every time it came off cooldown.

Don't you need to be a mage for the Fade option?

If you're a mage, you can go yourself. Otherwise you have Jowan, Irving, Morrigan or Wynne to choose from, depending on your circumstances (and level of persuasion in Irving's case).

I made it with Jowan in Nightmare mode, I managed to someway go out of combat a pair of times during the fight, thus recovering health & mana and being able to save. With Irving it was a little easier, but still a hard fight.

Took me a couple of tries but the best way to kill the demon is to first Stonefist her, then Paralyze. this way when u knock her down ur paralyze will not likely miss. then all u need to do is nuke her, and make sure u use drain mana when ever possible. Jowan was lvl 14 when i did this.

Haven't tried it with Irving. Jowan is just more fun.

"Arl, do you remember who I am?"

Arl: TRAITTOORRRRR!

Jowan: Take that as a yes then.

That's the ticket. Stonefist, Paralyze, and lyrium veins.

Doesn't this just demonstrate that BioWare has almost a complete inability to build a decent character with auto-level? Just to give an example, by my best guess, the game gave Wynne a pretty good boost to Strength and Cunning by the time I picked her up.

Hence the usefulness of the No Follower Auto-Level mod.

It feels a bit like cheating because it sort of unbalances the game, but it's so much more fun with the mod!
