Not sure which one to pick. I'm a vanguard starting up my hardcore playthrough. I pretty much got a decent strategy with my abilities, the only problems is that My scim doesn't seem to be putting out enough damage, but i really like the auto shot capability.
So which is better? Katana or scimitar (I would ask about the claymore too but i picked the assault rifle to help me out with range)
P.S. i just noticed something...
Katana=Ninja
Scimitar=Pirate
Maybe?
granted ninja's didn't really use katana'sbut still...

Scimitars are middle eastern weapons anyhow.
I like the Katana better because auto-fire on the Scimitar isn't that interesting.

Reserve judgment until you have it fully upgraded. At least 4/5 since the last upgrade is on the IFF mission. If you haven't done so yet, buy the upgrade from Tuchanka and do Grunts Loyalty mission successfully (i.e. kill the Thresher Maw). Build up an ammo power and go from there. The difference from one shotgun to another is about whether or not you like slow with mass damage, fast with medium damage, and in between.
Play around with the Katana and see what suits you more...

like thisisme said, it's personal preference the Katana is for those who prefer powerful single blasts and the Scimitar is for those who prefer speed/endurance.
At least when playing a Vanguard I prefer the Scimitar as you often have to deal with more than one opponent when performing a charge, the Scimitar lets you fire fast and furious and it'll see you through to the end of the bought, giving the enemy minimal time to react, unlike the Katana which would require a lengthy reload or two giving enemies plenty of time to retreat and take up firing positions on you.

fully upgraded the scimitar is awesome, but defo listen to thisisme8, he's got a VG guide up on the forum thats got alot of helpful info in.

K. saw thisisme's guide. seems legit. I still feel a little screwed that i don't have a claymore but hopefully soem shotty upgrades can still bring me up to par
